ARCHIVED Throat Spray (Moisturizing)
chasbari replied to LDJofDenver's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Never tried either one. I know I was using Biotene back before my diagnosis and with my Sjogren's staying hydrated for singing was always an issue. I was recording a number of arias today in a very hot setting and finally was defeated by dehydration. Strange since having gone gluten-free and paleo have had virtually no problems with vocal endurance due to... -
ARCHIVED Celiac & Osteoporsis -Men Too?
chasbari replied to ivegotitalso's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sjogren's, Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteopenia, reynauds and I also am a male. I would have a bone density scan if I were you to determine whether you have it or not. My bone scan numbers were borderline headed to osteoporosis after living with undiagnosedceliac all those years. Sever dental complications as well. Makes sense when you consider that the body... -
ARCHIVED Paleolithic Diet - Anybody Tried?
chasbari replied to motif's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Initially tried the "almost like the typical western diet, let's replace all our foods with gluten free equivalent" diet and really only got less worse. Within 48 hours of going paleo all of my complications from celiac seemed to start getting miraculously better. Makes compliance a no-brainer and I also follow the anti-inflamatory guidelines as to nightshades... -
That's a lot to deal with all at once. My heart goes out to you. Take the time you need to deal with it. Mixed emotions I am sure but here's a chance to make sure your gluten-free diet is in good working order so you can get yourself physically feeling better. That might might the other issues easier to deal with in the long run. It's good to have a place...

ARCHIVED I Can't Seem To Make Myself Do It.....
chasbari replied to BriLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think, perhaps, some of us sound like we had an easier time giving up gluten than it actually was. I am sure that had I been diagnosed much closer to the onset od my disease 30 or more years ago I would have been in massive denial and it would have been brutally difficult... much like your experience now. The reason it was "easy" for me to give up gluten... -
When your GP looks at your chart after the intake nurse's interview and asks you why you want Cialis. When your rheumatologist, after a very positive endoscopic biopsy and a positive DX from your GI Doc for celiac says that you can't possibly have celiac, that your rheumatoid arthritis can't possibly be responding positively to a gluten free diet, that...

ARCHIVED It's Been 10 Months Since I Found Out I Had Celiac
chasbari replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds a lot like the battles I have fought day in and day out. I was relying heavily on fruit for a while and thngs started to get worse again which was distressing. I won't go into the detail you have but relate to much of what you have experienced. I would go back and double check for what I might be missing. Hard to live in a shared environment. The hunger... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Ever Gained Weight On The Paleo Diet?
chasbari replied to munchkinette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Spaghetti and acorn squash provide a nice change of pace. Have you tried beets yet? I know I get stuck in a rut with my brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli and carrots. No legumes or nightshades. The no spinach experiment lasted until today. I tried an apple yesterday for the first time in ten days. I used to eat at least one a day. Really didn't agree... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Ever Gained Weight On The Paleo Diet?
chasbari replied to munchkinette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I just cut out spinach in the last week. I keep looking for foods that trigger hunger or foods that seem to satisfy my appetite. With spinach gone I seem to be less hungry. May be coincidence, may not. Time will tell. My safe list keeps getting shorter instead of longer. I seem to notice more quickly as to whether the offending food causes gastrointestinal... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Ever Gained Weight On The Paleo Diet?
chasbari replied to munchkinette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Been exclusively paleo for 16 months now and have had a hard time with any weight gain in spite of eating all day long. I did run into a problem with eating too much fruit. This was causing much bloating/gas/discomfort. I cut it out completely for about five days last week but just couldn't stay away. My gut did settle way down as a result of going fruit... -
I would make sure you are getting more protein. Looks like with the rice you weren't getting any to speak of. I just made a quick two day trip to NYC where I took as much food as I could with me. I ate all the time and still lost 10 percent of my body weight in 48 hours. Keep those calories up as your body is very busy healing at this point. When I eat lots...

ARCHIVED Tell Me About Fruit Issues (Esp. Pears)
chasbari replied to munchkinette's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I just searched and found this because I have been getting much worse the last month instead of that slow steady improvement I have been experiencing over the last 18 months. Horrible symptoms and I was getting that never ending hunger as well as various manifestations of D. Sunday night, after watching some videos on the new Dr. Osborne site I decided to... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Bad Reactions To Quinoa?
chasbari replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gave me problems the only time I tried it early on in my healing process. I have opted to stay away from it as a result. In no hurry to see if I have overcome it or not.. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else With Vocal Problems?
chasbari replied to teemaree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I believe that may have been my statement from a year ago. I was so overwhelmed with getting everything right, the diet, the health, the recovery that it was all very overwhelming. I have been singing for 30 plus years and when I was initially diagnosed and treated first for rheumatoid arthritis nearly ten years ago is when the vocal decline started in earnest... -
ARCHIVED This Is Insanity!
chasbari replied to Betty Boop's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My common sense plus daily experience lets me know exactly how the disease "works." That plus lots of education in nutrition, physiology, reading here and daily observation. I know the difference between an allergen and a trigger for an autoimmune response. Been dealing with it my whole life. Some are more sensitive and react differently than others. I am... -
ARCHIVED Disease associated with children now being diagnosed in adults - Community Press
chasbari replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
I have to disagree with the statement that celiac used to be a disease of children. Perhaps the medical community wrongly assumed that it was a childhood condition to be grown out of but their improper understanding does not mean that it is a childhood disease. Just seeking clarity of thought as we try to better understand the attitudes that have hindered... -
ARCHIVED This Is Insanity!
chasbari replied to Betty Boop's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am going to gently disagree on the make-up..especially if you are in the company of other celiacs who might be inclined to show any affection. I cannot get my wife to understand that if I want to give her a kiss on the cheek or whatever that any soap, shampoo or make-up she uses IS an issue for me.. not just lipstick. I have encountered problems with this... -
ARCHIVED Cheating On The Gluten Free Diet
chasbari replied to SusieC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, as a result of being undiagnosed for a lifetime up until a year and a half ago I was unknowingly cheating every day of my life.... as a result I was ready to die as a result of the complications of long term cheating. Now that I am strictly gluten-free my body is trying its best to heal but it is going to take a long time and I now have permanent complications... -
ARCHIVED Strokes And Tia's (Transient Ischemic Attacks)
chasbari replied to rahga's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Why do I keep seeing celiac as being the possible causitive origin of so many present day maladies? Just thinking out loud here.... -
ARCHIVED Eating Like A Horse!
chasbari replied to The Glutenator's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know what you are dealing with. For the first 9 months or so I couldn't get enough calories and could barely keep from dropping any more weight after dropping a frightening fast forty pounds... and I was eating all day long. Huge meals and constant snacking. In the last several months things have finally eased a bit. Coincidentally I upped my vitamin D... -
ARCHIVED Pork Chops...probably Nothing But ?!?!?
chasbari replied to NorthernElf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't know specifically about this product but the only time I was glutened knowingly was when I ate some pork chops from the Angel Food box of meat. Turns out the pork chops were packaged/processed in some sort of gluten product. It was then that I finally experienced the real pain of a detoxed gluten episode... it's one I hope I never have again. I sure... -
ARCHIVED Why Cant I Eat Chicken Anymore?
chasbari replied to jasonD2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Since I follow the paleo diet my response will be biased by that fact. There is the contention that chicken is a meat with a high lectin content that adversely affects gut permeability. I used to eat much chicken pre-diagnosis. Post diagnosis I could sort of stomach dark meat only and now I can't stand the taste of any poultry.. chicken or turkey. I also... -
I hate not being able to talk back to my TV.. it never listens! Good luck with some sort of communication. I little bad information is worse, in some instances, especially when the person giving it is well liked...

FWIW I am an old fart of 49. Worked out pretty much all my life until complications from undiagnosed celiac shut things down several years ago. I was "bulking up" all the while I was getting weaker and so people thought I was actually much stronger as I got sicker and sicker. When I was finally Dx'ed properly a year ago February and went on paleo to keep...

ARCHIVED Did You Have A Trigger That Started Your Symptoms?
chasbari replied to afreeclimber74's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know I was dealing with various issues my whole life but didn't know what I was actually dealing with. Lots of amalgam fillings and growing pains from early on and lots of gastro issues in middle school. I kept as active as possible and would go into flares of what, I didn't know but learned to keep to myself as I was seen as a complainer if I said anything...
