ARCHIVED Cleaning Products With Gluten Inside Of Them?
Pegleg84 replied to ellyy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think the only time you'd have to be concerned is if there was gluten in your dish soap, but I can't imagine anything of the sort having gluten in it (conventional stuff is all chemicals, natural stuff I've never ever seen a problem with). I cook (and clean) with regular ol Arm & Hammer baking soda, and unless you're using malt vinegar for cleaning... -
As a Celiac/Gluten Intolerant person, we're all going to get questions and deal with ignorance. I'm one of those people who tends to go on and on about it if you get me going. But then again, it's usually my fault with the "I can't eat any of this" or "Yay! Gluten free [insert exciting food here]" Best thing is to keep it simple and factual. No, it's not...

ARCHIVED Newbie Here, 11 Months Since Going Gluten Free And Still Bitter?
Pegleg84 replied to Framefunnyfarm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Amanda I can't even imagine the long, slow, painful road you've travelled to get this far, and after all those years of misdiagnosis, I don't blame you for being bitter. Welcome to the forum. This is definitely the best place on the web for information and support, and hopefully we can all help. Sometimes just having someone to rant at and tell you you... -

ARCHIVED Nail In The Quinoa Coffin
Pegleg84 replied to Pegleg84's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Eep! Genetically modifying it isn't going to help! People are crazy.... Sorry to hear about your flax problem. That something I should be eating more of. -

ARCHIVED How Do I Know If I'm Healing Or Ingesting Gluten?
Pegleg84 replied to megsybeth's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Megsy 2 weeks is early days. A little gas and (almost) D is nothing to worry about too much. Keep at the diet, and things should settle down. You're healing, and your gut is adjusting to the fact that you aren't feeding it what you used to. You can, as others have suggested, take probiotics and a good digestive enzyme (make sure both are gluten-free... -

ARCHIVED Cheese For 1St Time In 3Mos
Pegleg84 replied to Raining Skittles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
good advice on the probiotics. I've also been dairy (cow/goat/and sheep) free for about a year, but missing the cheese. I actually decided to be brave yesterday and had a sample of sheeps milk cheddar from an amazing cheesemaker I used to get stuff from all the time. I had an insta-headache, but haven't noticed any other adverse affects yet. Maybe it's time... -
I was in dairy denial for a long time before I bit the bullet and cut it out. I miss cheese like crazy though. Resless leg is also aggravated by stress (er, gluten causes that too) and low iron (that too!), so yeah, Celiacs are more prone to have problems with it. So, stay away from the evil gluten, try to cut out milk as much as possible (almond milk...

ARCHIVED Nail In The Quinoa Coffin
Pegleg84 replied to Pegleg84's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks guys My reactions are likely more related to the saponins/lectins/fibre content of quinoa. I did not make the stuff I ate on saturday, so don't know how much it was rinsed. So, if more than a cup kills me (worst pain I'd had in a rather long time), and a 1/4 cup causes horrid D, yeah, best to stay away. I did consider the wine when I woke up feeling... -

ARCHIVED Soy?
Pegleg84 replied to MdkIrish's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Probably your doctor meant soy sauce, which usually includes wheat. However, some celiacs (me included) end up with an intolerance to soy (including me). However, since you have just started eating gluten-free and are still healing, as another poster said, give youself a few months to heal before worrying about other food intolerances. If you're getting... -
Argh! Quinoa strikes again! At least I think so. On saturday, after having cooked for myself for a week, I had some squash and carrot soup, and a small amount of quinoa salad, both of which had been gotten from a good source. I had less than a handful of the salad, which did also have a small amount of feta in it which I avoided as much as possible (so...

Hi Eowyn I get restless leg too, usually at night and yes, usually if I've been glutened (though sometimes alcohol related), though also feel slightly twitchy sometimes during the day if I've eaten something I shouldn't have. I also have problems processing anything too "complicated", like brown rice and quinoa, and can't do dairy or soy. Restless Leg...

ARCHIVED Cheating When On A Gluten Free Diet
Pegleg84 replied to jwblue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think we've said it all: Short answer: Definitely Not! For Celiacs and the Gluten Sensitive, even trace amounts of gluten can cause a reaction and do damage to our intestines. The reality is that unless you do all of your own cooking (with completely gluten-free ingredients), are extremely dilligent when eating out at either a restaurant or someone's home... -
Well, looks like I'm not the only one. It's actually pretty amazing I haven't gotten the flu yet this year, since it seems to keep going around my office. But no, no stomach flu. i felt nauseus, but no vomiting (I've got a pretty strong stomach for being nauseous so often). I think realizing that it does take 2-3 days to kick in for me might be a sign...

ARCHIVED "silent" Migraines - What To Watch For?
Pegleg84 replied to Pegleg84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks Jane. I suspected Menieres or some kind of vestibular disorder when I had the dizzies last year (also, my mom had a couple vertigo attacks when she was my age). Went through inner-ear balance testing, MRI, whole bit. Nothing showed as unusual and the ENT said there was nothing wrong with my inner ear. Back to square one. So I changed my diet, cut down... -
Hi All So, I've been pretty diligent lately, cooking at home, taking digestive enzymes at every meal (which has been a huge help!), and eat out maybe once a week and somewhere I trust. Been doing generally better, though when I do have trouble it's always a question of: was it gluten? milk? soy? something else completely? Anyway, last week I ate out...

ARCHIVED "silent" Migraines - What To Watch For?
Pegleg84 replied to Pegleg84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi again. Well, I might have to turn this conversation away from "silent" migraines to recognising an actual one. As of now, I've had an increasingly bad headache for the past hour or so, pressure in my sinuses but my nose and ears are fine (nose was runny earlier today, but ok now). Vision going fuzzy, really really hard to concentrate, bit nauseous. Pain... -
Yup, sounds like dairy. I had the same symptoms (sinus and balance issues) and they mostly cleared up after cutting out dairy. For me the problem is casein. I can't eat goat or sheep's milk either. Non-dairy/grain-free snacks do sound tricky, but yeah, nuts, some fruit maybe? (those lettuce and chicken wraps sound tasty!) yeah, are fruit sugars and honey...

That does sound like an allergy. You should get it checked out. But even if it's not, soy intolerance is common in Celiacs, one of those nasty extras we tend to develop. I haven't been able to eat soy for almost a year. Eggs also bother me, mostly in that if I eat them they seem to leave me feeling shaky and still hungry an hour or so later so what's the...

Hey! I had costochondritis about 3 years ago. I'd never heard of it before. I started having this weird pain around my ribs on my left side, just under my breast. I thought, that's strange, and figured it would go away until one morning I'm sitting drinking my coffee and STAB! Ooh, it was bad. I managed to get myself to emerg and actually got bumped up the...

ARCHIVED Endoscopy
Pegleg84 replied to Pegleg84's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wasn't eating gluten, so didn't expect to see anything. But good to finally take a peek and get some samples. (note to self: book follow-up with doc... Actually, I was really surprised how well I was after the procedure. A little stumbly, but otherwise fine. Took my friend out for greek food and it was much needed. I also gloated to my mom that I got... -

ARCHIVED Endoscopy
Pegleg84 replied to Pegleg84's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Guys Had my endoscopy Saturday (ended up being 1pm before I got in. Sooo hungryyyy). They knocked me out, I had a nice nap, and felt pretty ok afterwards. They didn't see anything unusual while in there, but did take biopsy samples. That's definitely not going to show Celiac, but you never know. At least now the GI will have something to go on when my... -

ARCHIVED May Have Found A Huge Answer...but Still Confused (Possible Dairy Allergy)
Pegleg84 replied to zebaldwin's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hey While I don't get migraines (as far as I know. I'm afraid one of these days I'll get whammied), last year I had a lot of trouble with dizziness, nausea, sinus pressure, what felt like a sinus/inner ear problem. After a bunch of test that determined there was nothing wrong with my ear, I did some reading and decided to cut out dairy. So much better! Not... -
If you can, buy new ones. Or get some good used stainless-steel or glass ones and give em a really really good scrubbing before using them. No teflon or any coating that has been/could be scratched (I got cheapo new baking pans a while ago and the non-stick coating was coming up with the food! aack! Ruined food and ruined pan. Not cool). As for the bake-ware...

ARCHIVED Coping With Celiac With Dresses!
Pegleg84 replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm a skirt person. Dresses are usually for special occasions, and I'm pretty picky with them cause if they're too tight, even without bloat I get that side-view bulge. Not nice. But too loose and I look like I'm swimming. A-line all the way. At least with a skirt, I can wear a tunic-length shirt that covers it. I remember right before I went gluten-free... -
I hope you're right! Soy is one of the worst things to avoid. I do ok-ish if I have small amounts, but damn, I miss tofu and real soy sauce, and all that. I might challenge it soon as see what happens, but I don't have high hopes. Also, cranberry is a diuretic, right? Maybe there are dangers to having too much? Are you taking them as a digestive aid? Maybe...
