ARCHIVED Funny Things That Happened To Me Along The Way
GottaSki replied to Finally-45's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Congratulations on your one year anniversary! and thanks for the giggles I've had a very similar experience to all of these and I'd guess we are not alone -
I had a rash like that for several months before I was dx'd and went gluten free. The meds really never cleared it completely, docs didn't think it was DH because I didn't have sores. I can tell you that it went away completely and has not been back since I've been gluten free. I can also tell you that while removing gluten resolved my rash and most digestive...

ARCHIVED Trader Joe's Shared Facility?
GottaSki replied to GlutenFree-MLDub's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When first diagnosed I could eat TJ's items that had the shared facility statement - within months I started reacting to them. We no longer purchase any shared facility statement items from any source - it's not worth the risk. -
Welcome! Was your rash itchy? Celiac Disease can cause Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH) - a skin rash. I'm certainly no expert on DH, but there are many on this board. There is a section of the forum dedicated to DH issues, that may be of some help: https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/26-dermatitis-herpetiformis/ You also might want to read...

ARCHIVED Is This Celiac Or Ibd?
GottaSki replied to Momto2girls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just my opinion - sounds like the sulfasalazine was successful in reducing inflammation which improved your daughter's symptoms - whatever is causing the inflammation remains. Since testing has been inconclusive I would remove all gluten for at least 3 months without the use of any inflammation meds. Often living gluten-free is the best test - especially... -
ARCHIVED Having Trouble Accepting The Diagnosis
GottaSki replied to scarlet-willow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You certainly have Celiac Disease for all the reasons the others have posted. Welcome to the club - while it is quite tough at first, it does get much easier with time. Feel free to ask questions here or just pop in to whine or complain - we all have a time or two For your kids - I'd say get full celiac panel on all of them - they may all be negative... -
ARCHIVED I Think I've Been Glutened
GottaSki replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Bartfull! So sorry you are having trouble -- it is awful when you don't know what's causing the problem. I agree the best route is to remove them both and then try them again separately - but I'd also like to suggest since the D started after the rice and you have only changed the rice and Udi's during recent days, perhaps you should just remove... -
ARCHIVED 34 Weeks And "mildly Positive"
GottaSki replied to mommy2be's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My children are older. I believe that I was an undiagnosed celiac my entire life. All my pregnancies went well and I breast fed for one year with each child. They were wonderfully healthy, happy babies. While I believe you have not harmed to your child I do hope you will give up gluten completely - you need to be healthy and strong to be the Mom you... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think? Some Testing Results As Well
GottaSki replied to Lifenthefastlane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome - sounds like Celiac Disease - have your doctor run the full panel as you need to have testing complete before you can remove gluten from your diet. Running all tests gives the best chance to diagnose Celaic from the blood work. Full Celiac Blood Panel: Total Serum IgA Tissue Transglutaminase IgA and IgG Gliadin IgA and IgG Endomysial... -
ARCHIVED Brand New, Need A Few Answers
GottaSki replied to stacyisgf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Welcome Stacy! I think you've found the best place to get answers when newly gluten free. I read a few books when I was first dx'd, but really learned much more here. I can tell you that there are some good books, but definitely not one book that will tell you everything. You will learn as time passes - while the learning curve is tough, living gluten... -
ARCHIVED New And Struggling With Acceptance
GottaSki replied to GoldyLocks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Goldylocks! This I can tell you - it will get easier with time. The learning curve is tough - I was in tears reading labels at the grocery store my first weeks gluten-free, but that soon passed. Although it may not be easy - you are way ahead of the game knowing that gluten is definitely a problem for you AND you have a supportive hubby... -
ARCHIVED Coconut Flour Banana Bread
GottaSki replied to justlisa's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Lisa- Definitely going to try the coconut flour flatbread/pizza crust - funny I have hated anything made with coconut my entire life...could taste even the tiniest amounts in cookies, etc. Now after losing every grain and nut flour - today I ate my coconut flour pumpkin bread and I could taste the coconut, but the fact that I had a bread-like substance... -
ARCHIVED Coconut Flour Banana Bread
GottaSki replied to justlisa's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for sharing -- didn't have any ripe bananas so I substituted canned pumpkin -- worked great - also left out Stevia because I've never used it. I have been getting ready to try GAP muffins/bread thus had the coconut flour at the ready - great timing Thanks again -
Hot Dogs bothered me after going gluten-free - basically anything ending in -ite -ate and -ose made me bloat like crazy - sometimes with nausea, sometimes without. We switched to nitrate free dogs - I can't have those right now because of the paprika, but hope to get them back - yum

Welcome! Yes, your symptoms could be Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance. Do you wake up with the full/no room feeling or does it get worse throughout the day? There are blood tests for Celiac Disease (an autoimmune disease where your body produces antibodies to fight proteins found in wheat, barley and rye) - if they are positive you have Celiac...

ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
GottaSki replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are not a whiney baby - living gluten-free is tough for everyone at first - especially if you aren't certain there is a need. Given that you mentioned that it wasn't that difficult for you - I'd say stay with it until you are certain you want to challenge. I have one son that had improved health after going gluten-free, but doesn't have severe reactions... -
ARCHIVED Could Green Banana Pasta be on Your Plate Soon? - Celiac.com
GottaSki replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
This would be fantastic! I try, but spaghetti squash and zucchini curls have yet to curb my craving for a good bowl of pasta -
I did a juice fast to detox before elimination diet. I did strictly juice/smoothies for four days -- I'd think that anywhere from 3-10 days would be of benefit - I don't think I could have made it to 10 -- I added small amount of boneless chicken at day 4 and then left lean meats in for about two weeks. Great idea - good luck to you

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried The Nutribullet?
GottaSki replied to txplowgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
That looks interesting...if it can blend as well as a vitamix at 1/4 the price - I'd try it. Please let us know how you like it once you give it a whirl -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
GottaSki replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! Yes, you can have Celiac Disease with only slightly positive blood - I had only slightly positive tests and my kids all tested negative but had celiac symptoms that improved gluten-free. Since you have seen some improvement gluten-free, had a positive blood test and have Hashi's - I'd say it would be a good idea to remain gluten free for at... -
ARCHIVED What Does Chicken Cost In Your Area?
GottaSki replied to Jestgar's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I read a report that because of the drought there will be a major shortage of corn this season which in turn will raise the price of meat. Southern California- Chicken - Sale prices .89 - 1.49 -- Regular prices up to $4 Ground Beef - Sale price $2.99-$3.99 -- Regular price up to $6 -
I'd call natural peanut butter whole food - what's the second ingredient? We use Olive Oil, Safflower Oil and Coconut Oil. I like Sesame Oil but had a reaction to it so had to stop using.

ARCHIVED My Kids Tested Negaive :)
GottaSki replied to nvsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
ALL three of my kids and two grands tested negative upon my diagnosis (I went undiagnosed for 43 years - had a moderate positive tTG IgA although I had very severe intestinal damage). ALL had different celiac symptoms ranging from severe autoimmune diseases to more minor digestive symptoms - one only had GERD and recurring canker sores. Although... -
ARCHIVED Favorite Addictive Tv Shows
GottaSki replied to ~**caselynn**~'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Shameless, Dexter, Big C - Showtime addicts here - Weeds was on the list until this season -- it's their last - maybe should have ended a bit earlier. Dr. Who, Falling Skies, Eureka's first seasons, Firefly -
ARCHIVED Interpret Results Please
GottaSki replied to MMSS222's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the other posts. Yet - I'm curious if it was her doctor or perhaps a nurse or some other medical office personnel that told your daughter the results. If the result was typed the way you posted it - the first line has both her reading and the start of the ranges - thus putting the word "Negative" next to her result - which could have been misinterpreted...
