ARCHIVED People Who "bailed" When You Were Sick/crippled With Pain?
Salax replied to IrishHeart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get it. First, hats off to Hubby. It really is a blessing when your spouse or partner stands by you and loves you no matter what. But others don't always. I had a friend since I was 8 years old (I am 32 now), but we were tight and sometimes I think my lack of a diagnosis got in the way of our friendship. Sometimes. Then I think I came to realize... -
ARCHIVED The Gluten Was "fermented" Out Of The Sauce
Salax replied to Dee777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hear ya. But I think that if we take the "will they listen" approach with things like this, we are allowing their behavior from a stand point of "it doesn't matter they won't listen anyway". This to me seems like a cop out. We need to stand up for ourselves, because if we don't companies like this will continue to take advantage of "gluten free". I mean... -
ARCHIVED The Gluten Was "fermented" Out Of The Sauce
Salax replied to Dee777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's really too bad that the Celiac Foundation or Celiac.com or the Maryland center for celiac (I think it's Maryland) or someone with some hard core presence couldn't write them a letter that would "slap them around" a bit for there obviously misleading product. -
ARCHIVED Products Question

ARCHIVED Ways Of Coping With Glutening....
Salax replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It depends on the symptoms. MJ has helped me with the pain, nausea and general sick feeling. But I also have discovered that I now get dizzy with glutening. And I have taken dramamine to combat that, it helps and even with the nausea. I think many of us have had to try different things to see what works. You may have to try until something works for you.... -
Fun question, no I wouldn't eat it. But since I am on an island, I assume there is water out there with fishes in it. Fish works for me.

In all honesty, it is her body and if she wants to cheat and continue to consume gluten she can. BUT if she wants to live a health, longer life, she needs to stop eating it. I would ask her this, "IF your doc said you were a diabetic, would you continue to eat sugary foods?" She how she responds. The logical person would say no. The emotional person...

ARCHIVED My Youngest Son Is Not Coping At All Now
Salax replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Karl, our thoughts and prayers are with you. My mom use to say, "time heals all wounds." Perhaps with a lot of time, things will heal. I think many of use can agree with didn't truly get sick over night, and our healing took more than a day...time is a factor in life and with disease. -
ARCHIVED My Husband And His Parents Don't Understand/believe In Celiacs
Salax replied to Chloe's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How frustrating!! I still for the life of me can not figure out why people struggle with the concept of Celiac Disease, and people not eating gluten. It's a non issue, we don't NEED gluten to live. Water yes, gluten no. It's really not that hard. People with peanut allergies survive just fine without peanuts. Why is it that people force gluten down our throats... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy / Biopsy Results Today
Salax replied to Katrala's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow. I think yours is a rarity. Mine was an idiot. But then from most peoples comments on their experiences with their docs most are idiots or they just don't know much about it. So ya, mine told me to go gluten "lite" LOL um, dude...seriously. I straight told him um, there is no gluten lite, it's one or the other. He looked confused when I said that... -
ARCHIVED Testing
Salax replied to SAVANNAH21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Um, kinda strange if the pathology report says the endo was positive for Celiac Disease, in my humble opinion you have it. That is the "gold standard", I would ask for a copy of both blood and endo pathology reports. I say 2 out of 3 says you have it- 1. Endo says yes. 2. You fell great on the diet 3. Blood is negative? (according to alot... -
ARCHIVED Really Need Some Input On What To Do Next

That would be my next thought as well. Or even the BRATS diet. -
ARCHIVED Really Need Some Input On What To Do Next
Salax replied to zebaldwin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think the others have really good points and ideas. To add to it though, I am not sure 3 months is enough time to see results. I think longer is better, maybe not. There is a chance you don't have celiac disease or a gluten issue. But maybe you do. Either way.. my first thought I had was are you sure that your 100% gluten free? Any medicines/vitamins... -
ARCHIVED New To Feeding A Child With Celiac, Help!
Salax replied to missbread's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Udi's bread for grilled cheese, french toast, PB & J. Udi's also has frozen pizza crusts that I enjoy, he could help you make his own gluten-free pizza. A yummie dinner is the betty crocker gluten free baking mix with taco meat. You can look up all kinds of fun recipes through the betty crocker website under the gluten free section. I think... -
ARCHIVED Endometriosis And Bladder Issues
Salax replied to Nicole Ren's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Tell ya what, I had been gluten free for a year and a half. I needed a DnC, had some cysts. Been a long time suffer of endometriosis for most of my adult life (was confirmed by an ob/gyn about 10 years ago and prior to this DnC, about 1 year it was still there), so Doc went in, did his thing. Told my parents no endometriosis was found. IT WAS GONE! Only after... -
ARCHIVED How Strict While Pregnant?
Salax replied to gfreewife's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It can't hurt you or the baby to be gluten free, but technically it isn't necessary either. We don't NEED wheat in our diets, it's not a required food that we have to eat (obivously as Celiac's are aware. But because it's such a highly GMO'd and problematic food for so many people, I would stay away from it. But thats me. You have to do what... -
ARCHIVED Best gluten-free Bread?
Salax replied to Kat70R's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Udi's and Rudi's, both are awesome! Make grilled cheese, sandwhiches, french toast, garlic toast/bread, bread crumbs, etc. Just tried Rudi's the other day and was shocked how good it was, I even double checked the bag to make sure it wasn't the regular gluten-ie one. -
My first thought is: Crohn's disease (Open Original Shared Link). Have you been tested? It has many of the same symptoms of Celiac, which still could be the problem, but...I would think they should be testing you like crazy. I am 5'8, and I know the lowest point on our weight scale is 125, so I know your underweight. Personally, I would go to...

ARCHIVED Reaction To Stitches And Medical Tape
Salax replied to lolipopins's topic in Super Sensitive People
Does anyone have a reference as to where/how/what on the gluten containing stitches? I have never heard of this and have had no luck searching the web for this information? How does one find out if stitches contain gluten? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Is This Celiacs?
Salax replied to K-Lea's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, it is possible to come back negative. So I would recommend the endoscopy at that point. Even if the endoscopy comes back negative, you might have a gluten intolerence at that point rather than Celiac. So trying the diet for at least 3 to 6 months to give it time to see if it really helps. The worst that can happen is nothing, the best...you feel awesome... -
ARCHIVED Is This Celiacs?
Salax replied to K-Lea's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think the "weird patches of skin" are keratosis pilaris (Open Original Shared Link) Anyways, it could be Celiac Disease. As a side note, an endoscopy could confirm villi damage, hence celiac disease, but Colonoscopy's do not. You could always try the diet, but if you want an actually diagnosis you need to continue to eat gluten until you have an... -
Gotcha.

Good to know, but I thought there were several comments on the fact that Lay's isn't a "gluten free" claimer, because their products are made on the same lines as gluten containing products. And many peeps have had issues with their products that "look" gluten-free but they have a gluten reaction, called the company to find that there are shared lines....

Just my 2 cents, but I have noticed (being a huge fan of salt and vinegar chips) most of the vinegar used is malt, hence a no no for us. Very rarely (if at all) have I seen one that doesn't and that is safe. In general I just avoid them them because of the malt. Although I do notice small unheard of brands, that label well tend to sit better with...
