  1. Pizza is my all-time crave. I would think after not having it for a couple of years, the craving would be gone, but nope, I just die everytime I see a pizza commercial on tv. I keep telling myself I'm going to throw caution to the wind and just give in to it but I just never do, for one reason or another. Its cetainly not a strong, decision making skill...
  2. Congratulations!! I would think you have times where eating is very challenging....like at college?? You seem happy with this outcome, so I'm happy for you. And btw, thank you very much for your service!!
  3. I believe I started with leaky gut. You'll learn slot if us on here are self-diagnosed, due to doctors not knowing what our problem was. I finally found some probiotics from kirkmanlabs.com and took double doses for a couple of weeks to heal my gut. Then I started the eliminating to figure out what was bothering me. My list is somewhat like yours.....glutens...
  4. You may not be assertive, but you ate going to gave to learn to be. It's your health and you are paying for their service. Obviously something was list between the waiter and the kitchen, but he should have caught that mistake and simply informed you it would be just a few more minutes for the kitchen o remake your salad due to the mistake. But, you need...
  5. I won't say they are safe because I read too many in here say oats of any nature are a no-no. But for me, personally, I can do oatmeal as long as I stick with name brand Quaker Oats. I figure it's what they do. Off-brand stuff always seemed to bother me and I always assumed it was a cross-contamination issue. But it's one thing to experiment and take the...
  6. I have not noticed issues with gelatin....yet, lol. I've learned to never say never. I wonder if it could gave been a simple case if cross contamination with pans or something? And chicken feet??? Really??? Hard to get past THAT visual!
  7. I have heard of problems with smoked meats, but it would depend on the process, I suppose. My husband smokes meats all the time and I have no problems with it. But we use wood chunks, chips. I've heard that briquets are a problem as they are molded and often have binding agents in them.
  8. Exactly. I've never liked the results I get from Chebe's. I keep trying, thinking I messed up somehow, but that's exactly how my stuff comes out. It won't hurt you to eat it. Its just not that good.
  9. I'm getting to tag along with my hubby for the first time on a business trip. I'm very excited about seeing Halifax, Nova Scotia. I know there's alot of great seafood there, which I just love and can have. I just wondered if, by chance, there's anyone here that knows of any great restaurants that were great to work with someone like me with multiple food...

    ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerant

Years ago when I was only lactose-intolerant, I would take Lactaid and it would be fine. Until one time it made me feel like someone was ripping my insides with a knife. I never too it again. Spring ahead 16 yrs or so and now I have glutens and other intolerances. I can do Lactaid milk and an occasional bite of soft, expensive cheeses. Cheddar KILLS...
  11. Well, I'm way past the need to know that for MYSELF, but that's GOOD INFO to know!!! Thanks for sharing that! You never know where info like that will filter to and help someone we know!! Will try to help pass on that tidbit.
  12. Well, welcome to the club. I have read that some people here that are lactose intolerant CAN do the Lactaid milk and others CAN'T. I happen to be one that can. But I can't seem to do any other lactose-free thing. Go figure. You MAY consider something else being a problem for you too! After I got done eliminating things in my diet one by one and then...
  13. I WANT ONE IN MICHIGAN!!!!
  14. I've read something in the past of people reacting to vodka but I haven't...yet. I am not familiar with the name brand you mentioned. Perhaps you had some cc in sine way? Was it served by someone? Perhaps they had sinething on their hand and them you touched it? That pretty sensitive but only suggesting other avenues than the vodka.
  15. It does. I suspect the sun in Dubai is completely different than we are used to here in the States. My doc recommended the supplements over spending time in the sun because she figured in the fact that most people use sunscreen these days (or should, which would lower the Vit. D exposure also. I have to admit I'm surprised at the amounts many people are...
  16. Given that their prized quarterback, Drew Breese, is gluten-intolerant, I would think all of the nicer joints in NO would be familiar with cooking for us. I THINK I read tha he is also intolerant to other foods.
  17. I'm thinking mine was 17. My doc simply had me start taking 4000 units/day. I haven't been retested as it was just discovered in the past month. Is this a normal symptom of being gluten-intolerant? I am also a 51 yr old woman going thru the change. I assumed it was due to that. Maybe a double-whammy? I know my mood seemed to noticeably pick up after...
  18. I eat Santitas also and have never had any problem with them.
  19. I also have a rice-intolerance. I learned I can do straight wild rice pretty easily. Brown rice from time to time. The rice flours that are used in gluten-free foods are ok only if I don't have them everyday. If I let several days go by between eating them, I do ok also. But its easy to get impatient when you can have SOME of something, especially when...
  20. My first question (simply because I'll forget it if I don't ask now, lol) is what kind of meat do you think is glutening you? Many luncheon type meats do have gluten in them. Some brands are gluten-free. I only ask because you said you live in NY and I always think deli's and such in NY. If you are talking steaks and such.....I would also wonder if you...
  21. I assume you've had the marinara before? I know alot of bottled spaghetti sauces gave wheat and or dairy in it. I also stay away from American whiskey. I've read too much that some US whiskey makers will throw in grains in the last of their process fir added flavors. I don't do blends for that reason. I stick with single whiskys. I cod be misinformed on that...
  22. Lmbo! Very good! Can't add ti your list at the moment but am sure to try using a few very soon!!
  23. I have not been back to Montreal for years, ling before my problems began. But my husband travels there often and I think he understands my needs well enough to have a little knowlege for you. In general, the nicer restaurants with good chefs will be your best choices. He says not to be afraid of the language issue--French, as most also speak English. Bread...
  24. I finally asked my hubby to brush his teeth before any serious intimacy. I had sensitivities to some degree all the time and simply one by one found ways I might could be "contaminated". Serious kissing was one way. Since he isn't bothered by any of the foods I am, he still eats alot of them. You need to learn, thus know just how sensative you are, i.e. makeup...
  25. I suspect she's just never been aware of anyone else with such issues. If she knew the stats of 1:130 it might help make her realize you certainly aren't 1:1,000,000....in a negative way, anyway. And when she realizes that a majority of gluten-challenged people are also other foods-intolerant, it may help. Did she actually say YOU are weird or that "that...
