ARCHIVED Just Had A Baby And I'm Getting Tested...
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Testing you for a gluten intolerance would not have celiac show up. Celiac has a separate blood panel that needs to be done. You need to be eating gluten for about 3 months prior to testing to get accurate results. -
If he is really a guy worth pursuing it will not be a big deal. So what if you can't have certain food...that should not make a difference in a relationship. If he doesn't understand then you know he is not for you. You should really tell him though.

ARCHIVED Good Milk Substitute For Kids?
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I drink almond milk(vanilla flavored). It's actually pretty good. I use it for cereal and things like that. I have never been one to drink any kind of milk plain..I stick with juice for that. I am on soy milk to because my doctors have me on it to slow my thyroid down(along with nuts and some other things) There are alternatives such as rice milk, and... -

ARCHIVED Diagnosis Question
KaitiUSA replied to anniej55's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The damage starts when celiac is activated. Most likely you had a silent case and did not know it was activated and then later on the symptoms started. So if I had to guess I would say the damage has been there for some time and you didn't know about it. IMO, I think that there should be screenings done because it is pretty common in this country. -
ARCHIVED Mineral Deficiencies/ Odd Fat Test Results
KaitiUSA replied to hollyd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, they are the good ones...usually the total serum IgA is done with them though because that helps rule out if there is IgA deficiency(which can make a IgA test that should be positive come back negative) EMA and tTG are usually good for detecting damage IgG and IgA are supposed to detect gluten sensitivity and your bodys reaction to that. Hope... -
ARCHIVED Importance Of Biopsys
KaitiUSA replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
tTG and EMA blood tests are the specific ones for detecting damage. Doctors test usually after 6 months to see if the levels have gone down. Usually 3-6 months gluten free will heal damage. If you have not gotten a biopsy and had just positive blood tests then whatever tests were positive should be followed up on to see if levels of them went down. Blood... -
ARCHIVED What To Eat Before Blood Test
KaitiUSA replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
An overnight fast will not affect the results. You have to be off of gluten much longer then that. -
ARCHIVED Curious
KaitiUSA replied to ShortStuff2309's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is no way I would intentionally eat gluten ever. I know what it is like to be sick like I was and will not go through that if I have any control over it. -
ARCHIVED Diagnostic Methods And Second Opinions
KaitiUSA replied to GFG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could mess tests up. You should be on gluten for 3 months prior to testing with eating about equal to 3 pieces of bread every day. -

ARCHIVED Worsening Symptoms
KaitiUSA replied to browneyedgrl73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep, that happens. I had so many up and down days before I was gluten free. Once my symptoms started they just got worse and worse. When I went gluten free then my symptoms didn't start really improving until the 3rd month. Some people see differences right away and some it takes alot longer. Do you have any idea what blood tests he did? -
ARCHIVED I'm Sure This Could Be Many Things, But....
KaitiUSA replied to Joy2BMommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
To get testing done you need to be eating gluten for about 3 months and everyday eating equalivalent to 3 pieces of bread. Gluten can be hidden in alot of things. Shampoos/makeups/soaps/foods/etc. This link will provide you lists of what to look for in foods. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=12 It's worth being tested for. Everyone... -
ARCHIVED Important Question!
KaitiUSA replied to Violet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you been gluten free? You need to be on gluten for a good 3 months before testing. tTG, EMA, IgA, IgG , and total serum IgA should be done. -
The reason is because it has not been pinned yet. When a moderator pins it then it will show up. Until then , you can go to Todays Active Posts and it will show up there.

ARCHIVED 10 Month Allergic To Everything Need Help!
KaitiUSA replied to Hennessey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Glutamine is not made from gluten it is an amino acid that we need. It just has a name that may sound like it has gluten. You do need to check the label of the supplement to make sure it has nothing in it that he is allergic to. -
I agree I would much rather be out there doing something. I don't watch much tv but I have to say I have to see my Nascar races every week I'm a big multitasker so if I am at home and have to sit there and study or be on the computer I will turn on the tv too..so that way many things get accomplished

ARCHIVED Confused About Oats
KaitiUSA replied to seansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
During all testing he needs to be on all of gluten heavily. That way you can get reliable testing. If he is off of gluten for 3-6 months you will not get reliable tests. Some people get no symptoms with celiac but they still get the damage done by gluten. It is possible he only reacts to Oats that you can tell and have celiac. Oats in the U.S are highly... -

KaitiUSA replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED So Confused Now!
KaitiUSA replied to JacobsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If he is gluten free already then they will most likely come back negative and will not be accurate anyway. The 2 he is testing for are the best 2 tests however they are used mainly to detect if there is damage in the intestines. The IgA and IgG are not as accurate but are still good for detecting the antibodies to gluten. I recommend the whole... -
I don't think that would play a role into it...I haven't really thought about it...it is possible. It may depend on how much gluten you consume though. You may not have severe reactions to minute amounts when others might...still does damage though.
-
Definitely sounds like a normal kind of reaction. Hopefully the reaction will go away soon

ARCHIVED Mineral Deficiencies/ Odd Fat Test Results
KaitiUSA replied to hollyd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I was mineral deficient pre gluten-free. It almost looked like I was malnourished even though I was taking vitamins and eating good. That problem went away with the diet. Which bood tests did you have done?? Some are not as good as others. The complete panel for celiac should be done because that has been pretty successful in diagnosis. Usually...
