  1. Please keep me from going into the poor house! My sons just went gluten-free, and they're in the "hungry zone." They'll eat gluten free snack bars, like peanut butter granola, by the handful. AT $5 for 4-6 bars, I will be broke soon They love peanut butter and chocolate. If you have a kid favorite recipe, please share! Thanks!
  2. I just googled gluten ataxia, and found this article. May be worth looking into Candida? Open Original Shared Link
  3. I had chronic joint pain, to the pornt wheres ometimes it hurt too much to get out of bed. I had immediate improvement(within a couple of days). iT's much better now at 4 months gluten-free, but it still hurts some. A contact sport like Hockey can really put a lot of pressure on your joints. Perhaps you could do something else for a bit til you improve...
  4. udi's gluten-free bread is your answer. everyone loves it. dont buy regular bread. trust me it's great!
  5. I was dx with osteopenia AND osteoporosis (different joints) at 34! Turns out, the AMA says I should have been tested for Celiac back then. Ive been on D and calcium for three years. I also get a Reclast injection once a year. Through comprehensive blood testing at UMMC, I found out I have a metabolic bone disorder caused by Vitamin D deficiency. My...
  6. If you want the endo, then you must stay on gluten- they say the equivalent of 3 slices of wheat bread daily, for an accurate result. If you don't need the official diagnosis, then say the heck with the endo and start the diet. As far as I am concerned, a positive diet response is pretty "official." Good luck with whichever you choose.
  7. lots of nut butters
  8. I am not a Dr but I have not heard of this as a symptom of Celiac. I would strongly urge you to see your dr asap. Better safe than sorry! Go to your school's health center if you cant get in to see your doctor.
  9. I used to be somewhat of a gourmet chef before gluten sucked the joy out of cooking for me. I've been giving this some thought and her are my ideas: My Mom always made cornbread dressing. Cornbread(crumbled), couple slices of white bread (toasted), sauteed celery and onions and chicken broth. Add poultry seasoning and eggs (replace with egg sub or...
  10. So, is your bowel problem constipation? If so, the pain and bleeding are probably from hemmorhoids. they can hurt like crazy, and cause bleeding. They can come up on the inside or the outside- you can't necessarily see them. I had them for years because of chronic C, and none of my doctors ever mentioned it- I think a lot of people have them. The good...
  11. Kind bars are great, and you can get them at Starbucks. All the gluten-free snack bars on Amazon are priced pretty well. Get little snack size ziplocs for nuts, raisins, gluten-free cereal. Apples are pretty sturdy, too. Celery sticks with those little individual servings of peanut butter. Pirate's booty comes in individual size bags (on sale at Ralphs...
  12. I just checked the Carls website, and the Teriyaki burger is not listed as one of the gluten-free choices. One has to assume that their teriayaki contains wheat through the soy sauce, since the gluten-free soy sauce is ridiculously expensive, so you are probably glutened. I don't know of any ways around it, but I would suggest you drink lots of water and...
  13. UPDATE So, I started my Joey on a gluten-free diet one week ago. He's adjusting well! At school on Thursday, a volunteer gave the kids Red Vines. He spent the afternoon with a headache and vomiting The good news in that he know now this is for real, and is actively avoiding gluten, instead of just going along because I said so. i was suprised that...
  14. First, take a deep breath It may be CC, but more likely a secondary intolerance. I am 4 months out and I still can't eat any grains, corn, processed foods of any kind, but I can have dairy and peanut butter now THe best advice I can give is go very SIMPLE. Lean protein with salt and pepper. Steamed veggies and salads with homemade dressing. Try...
  15. Yes I am 4 months gluten-free, and some of my intolerances have resolved themselves. Rice is good again, Yay!
  16. This stuff was not there a week ago, so check next time you go! I've found it at two stores now.
  17. Huntington Beach. I went to the one in Costa Mesa today, and they had a whole half aisle of dedicated gluten-free
  18. I never had a problem with the "celiac belly" until after going gluten-free I've been gluten-free fro 4 months now, and I've had a flat tummy for exactly 2 days Did many of you get the belly after gluten-free?
  19. Ask your doc to check your gallbladder. Also, couldn't hurt to have your"baseline" colonoscopy. I had my first at forty because my dad had colon cancer. I think it's good for anyone over 40 to have one.
  20. I read the title of the post and my heart sank! My little boy was just dx with celiac disease and he lives for nutella. Whew!
  21. UPDATE My doctors from afar ran a huge series of tests: 22 tubes! The lab guys said "OH MY GOD!" It was sort of funny, acutally The good news: my kidneys are recovering! YAY! They're not sure why, but think it was a nutritional deficiency of some sort, and now that I am absorbing what I am eating, they're on the road to recovery! I am just hoping...
  22. I just checked the Ken's ingredients. The only problem I can see is the bacon ranch flavor- it has smoke flavor, which almost always contains gluten. Most other kinds of ranch have modified food starch, but I think it has to say "from wheat" if it contains wheat. Were there croutons on any part of the salad that you may have come into contact with? That...
  23. I went shopping for icing today at Albertsons. The store brand contains wheat, but hte Duncan HInes and Pillsbury vanilla did not contain gluten ingredients. We're making cupcakes!
  24. My Target store added a gluten free section this week! It's small, only an endcap display, but they have Bob's Red Mill stuff, some cereal and snack bars, bread mixes, all at Target prices. Woopee!
  25. My terrible hungries lasted about a month. I think it's because your body has been starved of nutrients. After a month or so, hunger went to "normal" but then for a month or so at dinner, I would be hungry, take two bites and feel stuffed. Now at 4 months I feel normal again. I felt like a slave to food for a while and wouldn't dare leave the house without...
