ARCHIVED Bacon
tmbarke replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It has been noted elsewhere to steer clear of smoke flavoring unless you've called or wrote the company to confirm. I go for the REAL stuff. It can always be cooked refridgerated for frozen for use another time (I love it on baked taters) and it's really smoked. Good Luck next time T -
ARCHIVED Venting.....feeling Like Crap Again!
tmbarke replied to looking4help's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This sounds kinda like what I've experienced up into my 30's......a laproscopic 'look' inside was the answer I'd needed for so long. I had an infection in my teens that created adhesions in my lower abdomen. Everything was adhered together.....Everything! Scar tissue grew my intestines and the reproductive organs together that became very painful during... -

I'm so proud of you Vicky! You are an inspiration to many! If you can't beat 'em - kick 'em the h3ll out! I'm so jealous that you're dropping more weight than me! But I know this is the most relief you've experienced in a long long long time! Stay strong sweetie! You don't need ANYONE weighing you down.....not now - not never. Everything about your... -
ARCHIVED Can We Talk About Body Temperature Regulation?
tmbarke replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Space heaters? LOL I think you're right! Glad to know we're not alone in this. There is one problem tho......If I'm sleeping next to another space heater...........I'm screwed! My BP used to be so low that a doctor had to go back and forth 5 times to find it....and then it was 80/66. That's funny too - cuz I took a bronkodilater that morning! hmmmmm... -

Many of my coworkers look forward to my gluten free cooking because it tastes better than what they are used to! 'go figure' One person told me......'I think you've missed your calling - because of your celiac....you could make many more people happy that truly need your cooking'....(bows with honor and a grin) Anywho...........You are so welcome! If... -

JUST PEEL THEM AND CUT INTO 1/8" SLICES LENGTHWISE IS ALL.....MAY NEED TO BAKE A TAD LONGER IF FORKED AND STILL FIRM. BUT OH BABY! THIS IS FANTASTIC! AND I USED CLASSICO TRADITIONAL BASIL SAUCE WITH HAMBURGER AND MUSHROOMS. SKIPPED THE COTTAGE OR RICOTTA AND MIXED A BIT OF CHEDDAR IN WITH THE MOZ. COVERED WITH FOIL THE WHOLE DURATION. GOT THE... -

I can usually tell when I'm accidently glutened or reacting to something other than gluten........I take my pulse before I put anything in my mouth while relaxed.......then, when I take a sip of tea (new try out) or milk......or eat something I'm curious about........then I take my pulse again and then every 10 minutes for about 30 min or 45 min. If your... -
ARCHIVED Can We Talk About Body Temperature Regulation?
tmbarke replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can relate to your issues I myself seem to get overheated when the temp goes up and the humidity makes it harder for me to breathe. I take a cool shower or a warm shower - but the relief is still only temporary. I want to sleep but can't - I can't move - I get very irritated/awnry/angry....almost furious and want to cry - face turns red and body gets... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Have Problems With Caramel Coloring/ Or Soda?
tmbarke replied to Luvbeingamommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I stick with Coke or Pepsi - RC is not safe. I was an RC fanatic until I had some after gluten-free and got the reaction big time! McDonalds fries are coated with flour - don't think fast food fries are on the safe list....I opt for Wendy's baked potato instead.....with chili. Good luck on fighting the good fight T -
ARCHIVED Family Members With Celiac?
tmbarke replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At first I thought I was the only one - then I reconnected with some relatives to find they have thyroid problems like me and one even developed into cancer and had it removed and is totally gluten-free. Her father (my brother) has the thyroid problem, prostate to bone cancer and is diabetic....his other daughter has the thyroid issues too. (Mine is like... -
Now that you mention it - YES! When I cough, my back pops in and out between the shoulder blades everytime. Good info Yolo! I think I'm going to have to consider that. Where do you get them? When I was first diagnosed - my shoulder was in non-stop pain......now it's without pain after gluten-free - but the back is a great concern......it's just not...

For me, it's easiest to just say........."I have food allergies" and if they ask - say "wheat, rye and barley...and it's in more than you'd imagine" I prefer to pick the restaurant or just meet for drinks. Olive Garden is my restaurant of choice and a Rum and Coke or wine fits the bill just fine. Don't wear yourself out - that can come later.........and...

Oh girl I can relate! My best defense is to eat salads regularly to get the whole system flowing 'quickly'. Once it's out of there, I return to regulation. I also drink more water to keep the 'tubes' lubricated and diluted. I feel for ya.

ARCHIVED Spreading The News?
tmbarke replied to lcharpen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My simple response is........I'm sorry, I can only eat at Olive Garden, Outback or Carrabas since I was just diagnosed with food allergies and those places have allergen menus. Otherwise, I'd be happy to join you for drinks! I don't want people to treat me differently (which they will) because I'm one in a million to them with THAT kind of allergy. But... -
When I went thru my withdrawls......I was like a junkie without my drug. My body and mind was shutting down (or it seemed) to where I couldn't concentrate nor make a decision.....and made plenty of mistakes at work. Anger was quick.......frustration and temper tantrums too. I swear my brother ducked everytime I ranted and raved! I couldn't drive either...

ARCHIVED Severe Sleeping Issues/depression?
tmbarke replied to Lycopene's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is time to start living life on your own terms at this point. YOUR HEALTH! After I went thru my withdrawls, I had sleep issues but in the way that I would sleep for 4 hours and be wide awake after that! I stopped drinking caffeine after 1pm - and had a drink or two after 6pm to help me sleep....then added some milk to settle things. I also went to a... -
Olive Garden Restuarants have a gluten free menu and I believe they are everywhere in the united states so check the phone book and find one! My preferred place to eat out! If you're going for fast food.....Wendy's has an allergen menu posted on the wall.....chili and frosty's are safe! So is most of their dressings for salads.....I get a burger with lettuce...

I love my grilled chicken caesar salads! I use Lachoy soy sauce with lime juice, oil and herbs to marinade chicken breasts......romaine lettuce, tomatoes, grn onion, cukes, and shredded Kraft cheese with Bolthouse, Lighthouse or Marzetti ranch and caesar dressings (found in the produce section and gluten-free) Heat the chicken at work and add to the salad... -
