  1. Wow. This is a tough situation, but I wonder if perhaps your husband might be a bit frustrated? Seems odd to me that a good man who's a good husband and father would prepare you ALL this time in advance that, oh by the way, me and the darling daughter will be eating at this amazing restaurant for a super special time, but they can't accommodate you and we...
  2. In my limited experience, you sound pretty normal and like a new celiac person! You are right -- cross contamination can be tough. Try not to obsess on everything -- remember that there are thousands of people living undiagnosed with similar symptoms...they manage to get through the day. You are making positive changes to help alter this part of your life...
  3. It does...but I'd be willing to bet, K8ling, that this isn't the only issue the two of you have. May I suggest some couples counseling? You are dealing with a serious issue -- food -- and it stresses you out and frustrates you. What do you think it does to those around you? Do you have any idea how frustrated they are? Trust me -- they are. My husband still...
  4. Just to add to this: I've always had a good experience at fast food restaurants. And all those "sixteen year olds" have been very careful about my food and letting everyone know what I need. I've not been glutened by McD's yet, and it's a nice change to not always make my own food. And let's not malign the fast food workers! We're all one pink slip away...
  5. You do what is healthy for you and if he doesn't like it, I'd guilt the crap out of him. He has the nerve to suggest his wife should be sick all the time? To be annoyed where your health is concerned?! To even question your diagnosis? Who cares if he agrees with it or thinks it is legit. You need to do this to be healthy. Let me ask you this, and I encourage...
  6. Ah yes, the joys of eating out...where a simple meal can mean weeks of misery. Sorry to hear you got caught. But yeah, I was glutened on Friday, and went through the same thing. I'm still not right. Hope it passes quickly for you.
  7. What else do you do on a first date? It's almost unheard of to do it around something other than food, especially depending on where you are from. No matter what you do, you end up in a restaurant or coffee shop, both of which can be devastating to a celiac.
  8. That is excellent! I kept thinking this was going to end in tears, and instead, a happy ending! YAY!
  9. I'm going to echo everyone else here: do not blame yourself! Moreover, you finally have the answer -- you should be dancing across the rooftops! Not getting more depressed! How do you the woman feels who finally leaves the abuser after 20 years? She can't get those years back! But she is finally free. So are you. This is NOT the time to get depressed when...
  10. I wish they had a buffet at our favorite place! But that's not a bad idea to keep in mind for the future. I LOVE sushi, but I got glutened the last time I had it...but I'm willing to try it again. I just can't get enough of it!
  11. Two things that come to mind: 1. It could just be that your system is still healing. Sometimes you feel like you got glutened, and you really didn't. Your system is just still out of whack. 2. could you have another intolerance or issue that you are reacting to? I do know the feeling. We had Mother's Day out on Sunday morning. MIL's choice, certainly...
  12. You are not alone or isolated, promise. ((hug)) I actually just had a discussion with my husband. I asked him if he wanted to go on a mini-date with me to McDonalds. We were both tired, hadn't had dinner, and I got glutened AGAIN over the weekend. I do best on carbs when I'm glutened, so bring on the french fries (it's good that I run, otherwise I'd...
  13. RideAllWays -- you are human. You are allowed to feel weakness. May I suggest a different view... You are eating so much healthier than you would otherwise. I know it stinks, but it is how we probably should be eating 90% of the time. So if that means goofing around with some alternative flour sometimes and having some junk food, I say go for it! But...
  14. AGH! I just started fish oil caplets to prevent high cholesterol (I don't currently have an issue, but I do like a bit of junk food, so I'm doing it for preventative measure). What is the deal with the mercury and such??
  15. This is definitely my story. Had all kinds of GI problems growing up, which seemed to disappear when I was a teenager. No problems until the last few years, right around the 28-32 age range.
  16. Not at this point. That's not to say much though, as I must have gotten into something over the weekend that didn't like me. But I don't think it was the arctic zero. We ate out for Mother's Day -- WHO thought that was a good idea?! Certainly not me.
  17. I just tried the Maple Vanilla...yummy! Now this does not taste like vanilla ice cream. But it is still yummy and has great consistency. I think if you go into it expecting it to be a fun frozen treat, it is very satisfying.
  18. My guess is that your wine was fine, and Amy's tore you up. That stuff if dangerous. I don't eat it, and there's many-a-thread on here about the danger of eating Amy's. Hope you feel better soon!
  19. Me too! I'll get the ingredients this weekend and try it next week. Let me know how yours turns out!
  20. Don't get down about it! We are all different, and some people accept some of their symptoms in order to avoid changing. That is on them, and their consequences. I bought new pans, I don't eat things that have even touched gluteny items, and I'm pretty anal about ingredients. Not as anal as some on these boards, but at this point, I don't have to be...
  21. I guess I'm going to sound old school, but it wouldn't bother me in the least if the guy I was dating had issues with food. (Have you met my husband? He never met a green food he liked.) So I'm not sure why you'd spend more than two seconds with someone who was bothered with your food issues. Use it as your litmus test. When the time presents itself, see...
  22. I was vegetarian for several years, but I never had the issues with meat you have, I don't think. I just don't like factory farming -- I don't have any objection to eating meat! But take it slow. Chicken or pork are easy to start with, or burgers, since most of us grew up with those. Take your time, and you'll get there. It does open up a lot of food ideas...
  23. You should be able to use your alternative flour without any issue. I've done that with all my recipes and been pleasantly surprised by how easy it was. I use Tom Sawyers. Watch your frostings -- obviously if they have cookie crumbles in them, they are a no go. Apparently some can be an issue, though I've never had a problem. I like to make own frosting...
  24. Hm, I gotta be honest -- I am nuts about my foundation and lip stuff not containing gluten, but I don't worry about my eye shadows. They aren't getting near my mouth. Not to mention, I can't imagine what they'd put in there with gluten, but hey, it's amazing what you can sneak wheat into, isn't it? I wouldn't worry over much UNLESS you get a skin reaction...
  25. Wow -- I really like this stuff. Let me preface this by saying: I had ben and jerry's earlier today -- only ONE serving, of course! But I love Ben and Jerry's. Then I bought the Arctic Zero at the store. It's good! Not like Ben and Jerry's, no, but still yummy. It's a very mild ice cream, but it has great texture and is very satisfying. And you can eat it...
