  1. I personally don't believe one bit in gluten intolerance. I think if gluten makes you sick you have celiac. I was diagnosed with blood tests, but with my 6 year old son, his blood tests were normal, but he was sick from gluten all the time. We took him off gluten by his choice and it all went away. He eats gluten by accident and it's automatic D, often resulting...
  2. Cream of rice is very good. I waited a year before I tried gluten free oats and I'm fine with them. They are very expensive but I do like them once in awhile. I throw a half cup of gluten free oats in my gluten free pancakes for added fiber.
  3. I'm not sure about programs that will help you, but here are some tips. Many if not most of the foods you cook will naturally not contain gluten. A good vegetable soup with lentil beans added to it tastes great and fills you up. Put potatoes in there too, maybe some ham. Beans are in general very inexpensive and filling. Just boil them with some salt or even...
  4. I would LOVE it if celiac were in my head. Too bad I have BLOOD TESTS to prove otherwise. EYEROLL. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm sure you would have loved to slap them... in your head of course.
  5. Good makeup pays for itself in the long run. I love Bare Minerals. I also use Benefit Hello Flawless. it's incredible stuff. I'm a total makeup and product snob. I just think in the long run you waste money on cheap products and they ruin your hair and your skin
  6. And it only gets better! I'm almost at the one year mark and I cannot believe THAT used to be my life and THIS is my life now!!!!
  7. I had heart palpitations. The last year before diagnosis the heart and neuro issues were BAD. I had trouble breathing, heart racing, palpitations, anxiety attacks, dizzy spells. I got diagnosed in the ER when I went in thinking I was having a heart attack.
  8. When I was healing I went through a few periods where everything I ate bothered me. I had to cut dairy and soy for awhile. I put dairy back in at around 7 months on occasion and now I'm a year gluten free and I can eat it regularly with no problem. Soy is still a huge problem for me. I got sick off canned chicken that had no offending ingredients in it...
  9. Every once in awhile I'll go "Hey I don't do/have such and such anymore." Things I didn't even realize were due to celiac. I used to get such dry hands and feet they would crack and bleed and the cracks would be so painful. Gone. I also used to bump into things all the time. It was a running joke with my husband that he would always hear "BUMP! Owww...
  10. Those blood tests mean you have celiac. Your doctor doesn't know how to interpret them. You only need one of the tests to be positive. There are no false positives. My doctor tried to pull this same thing with me. I was very sick and no way was I going to keep eating gluten for however long to do a biopsy. I did take my labs to another doctor who knew...
  11. At first it is so overwhelming. I had panic attacks when I went to the grocery store the first few times. I will be gluten free one year in January and it is so easy now. It's a steep learning curve at first and you feel like you're skiing downhill at top speed but very soon it gets to be your new normal. The best part is feeling well and not being sick...
  12. Here are a few things 1. Keep a food journal and symptoms journal to see if you have other intolerances. Or cut out soy and dairy and see if you improve. Then if you do improve, add one back in at at time to see which one was the problem. Soy makes me feel as if I've been glutened although I can tolerate small bits like soy lecithin as an additive. ...
  13. Four months is still relatively new to the diet and the withdrawal/healing process. Everyone has to handle this issue differently. For me, it's worth risking CC to have freedom and the ability to go out and socialize. That being said, I have only gotten glutened a handful of times when I'm out and I'm very sensitive to the smallest amount of CC. I eat...
  14. Here's to all my wonderful celiac friends. Wishing you a Christmas with no CC and a quiet tummy! Hopefully we can all post that we survived without getting glutened by Christmas hams and yams and such.
  15. I swell all over too. I got glutened and then went salsa dancing. Some guy came up and asked me if I was pregnant and when I got upset he kept insisting! It was horrific. I am all swollen now from my awful glutening last Friday and I have my monthly so it's even worse.
  16. I'm confused because you have posted before about having reactions after eating gluten and not feeling well, being bloated. You posted one time about stools floating after eating at a Chinese restaurant. That image hasn't left my brain even after I hit the delete button. LOL I agree with therapy. Your health is making you spin your wheels so much and...
  17. I hate food gifts in general. I'm always watching what I eat and I don't need more junk in my house. I have a funny story about this. When I was a teacher I always got tons of candy from the kids. One year I was given TEN pounds of chocolate from different student, an entire sheet cake and myriad other candies. I filled my trunk with all the junk my students...
  18. I know! If I had done it to myself then I could blame myself for it but I live my life in fear of eating gluten when I eat out. I cannot for one second comprehend the people who cheat on the diet and gluten themselves on purpose. I would never ever purposely ingest gluten. I mean if I was a prisoner of war they could use gluten as my torture device. It's...
  19. You're overthinking it and sorry to say I think you're overreacting. A gift is a gift and you should be grateful they gave you a gift at all, especially if it's just a coworker and not a good friend. You graciously smile and say thank you and then give it to someone who can eat it. It's rude to say anything but thank you in this instance and it won't make...
  20. Crumbs can gluten you! Trace amounts in shampoo can gluten you. I made my whole house gluten free because my kids glutened me constantly. I was sick for 6 months after diagnosis and I believe that much of it could have been avoided had my kids not been glutening me. Now my 6 year old has been diagnosed anyway so we all need to be gluten free for the two...
  21. it always feels so good to have a success like that!
  22. Oh and if you are just dying for something sweet, Betty Crocker makes great gluten free mixes. Yellow cake, chocolate chip cookies, devils' food cake and brownies. Here is a peanut butter cookie recipe that is incredible. 1 cup sugar. 1 cup peanut butter. I use the natural kind. 1 tsp baking powder 1 egg. Roll the cookies into balls. flatten...
  24. That is exactly what my husband said. He has been in 4 different war zones and he expressed great concern over that. Also the dangers of being ill from being glutened during boot camp which is extremely physically demanding. He has seen first hand what getting glutened does to me and he said a soldier going through that purposely is not a good situation....
  25. The best thing you can do is to go to the restaurant forum on here and get online and find out what you can eat at different fast food places. Print up lists to keep in your car in a little binder or make a list on your phone if you have a smartphone. If you find things you can eat, it will help alot when you want things you can't have. It will get better...
