ARCHIVED What Am I Doing Wrong?
sandsurfgirl replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wanted to add, that you might try eliminating a bunch of things and if they disappear adding one thing back every few days. I tend to eat pretty simple for breakfast, lunch and snacks and then I actually cook meals for dinner. A lot of times my lunch is some cut up veggies and fruit and some sort of meat, maybe gluten free crackers. I try not to go... -
ARCHIVED What Am I Doing Wrong?
sandsurfgirl replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am very against artificial sweeteners. In my opinion they are poison and toxic. I gave them up years ago and saw an improvement in my health even before I was diagnosed celiac. I would get rid of that stuff yesterday. Soda, coffee and chocolate are migraine triggers. Your diet sounds pretty heavy to me and lots of grains. Are you eating enough vegetables... -
ARCHIVED How Often Do You Cheat?
sandsurfgirl replied to steve-010's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's nice to recommend a book to him, but it's a pretty big leap in logic to suggest HE is the one who needs therapy because he got involved with someone who has problems. He seems like a pretty together guy with a great head on his shoulders. He sees the problem, came here for answers and is taking all of our advice to heart. I think he sounds like a great... -
I was just in the hospital for 2 days for colitis. The CT scan showed lots of swelling but no ulcers. They treated me with major IV antibiotics for infection but they just aren't sure what caused it at this point. And the docs OF COURSE did not know much about celiac. What a surprise! (insert sarcastic eyeroll here). I will follow up with GI doc later...

ARCHIVED Will Trace Amount Of Gluten Complelety Ruin All You Have Been Dieting For
sandsurfgirl replied to justinjames's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Once you are gluten free your test will not come up positive and the test is not valid. You must be eating large amounts of gluten to have a valid result. So the original poster has to decide now if he wants testing before he goes gluten free. All of your symptoms can be celiac. Not all of us have GI symptoms. And yes you must get rid of all gluten even... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take To Feel The Effects Of Being "glutened"?
sandsurfgirl replied to Elfbaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At 2 weeks you might just be having some withdrawals. Around week 3 I couldn't eat anything all of a sudden. Then a week later I was better. Dairy is hard to digest because the tips of your villi are damaged and they produce the enzymes to digest it. I was severly lactose intolerant and about 8 months into being gluten free I was able to eat dairy again... -
ARCHIVED This Is Unusually Frustrating- (Gross Picture)
sandsurfgirl replied to Elfbaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The sensitivity to glutening gets worse I hate to tell you, but going back to being a gluten eater is not an option. This is not an allergy. It's an autoimmune disease where your body literally destroys itself EVERY time you eat gluten whether you react or not. You may as well down some rat poison as eat gluten because gluten is poison to your body. I... -
Please use the search box on this forum and type in "withdrawals" Read and read and read old threads about this. Gluten withdrawal is a real thing and it's been documented with studies. It can last a couple of months and the symptoms can go in phases. Often there is brain fog, fatigue, dizzy spells, dehydration. Your intestine is destroyed and once you go...

ARCHIVED How Often Do You Cheat?
sandsurfgirl replied to steve-010's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I posted without reading the whole thread. She had all those unplanned pregnancies and can't stay on the diet that will save her life? I'd drop her like a hot potato. There are plenty of fish in the sea and I would not waste time with someone like that. Like others said, what will she do with the children if she is able to have any? And if she had that many... -
ARCHIVED How Often Do You Cheat?
sandsurfgirl replied to steve-010's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow you are the perfect celiac boyfriend. If it doesn't work out with her, I'm sure you could get a whole bunch of girls lined up from here! She is crazy. I would NEVER cheat. I live in fear of crumbs. Crumbs give me anxiety attacks. My son has celiac, but husband and DD do not. Whole house went gluten free because crumbs were ruining my life. Residue... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vaccine Anyone?
sandsurfgirl replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't trust the researchers to be thorough in what they consider symptoms. We all know that celiac presents in many symptoms that are not gut related. Asthma, sinus infections, ataxia, joint pain, anxiety attacks, feeling on edge, brain fog, skin rash, dry skin, inability to lose weight, Bulimia (yes my bulimia went away on its own after going gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Glutened, I Think
sandsurfgirl replied to color-me-confused's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your family has got to get rid of the flour for all the reasons stated. Try Gluten Free Pantry Basic White Bread Mix. it's super easy to make and tastes like a regular white bread. Kids will love it. Crumbs and flour are just poison to us and we can't deal with that in the home. I had to make my 3 year old gluten free because she was getting my son and me... -
ARCHIVED Intestinal Nerves Hearling?
sandsurfgirl replied to Jeff In San Diego's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had so many weird symptoms, including the one you describe while I was healing. It took me 6 months to have ONE symptom free day, although I was always getting a little better here and a little better there. So don't panic just yet. 7 weeks is still baby time. LOL You're just a new kid on the block to the celiac thing. Very few people get the gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Naturopath Worth The Money?
sandsurfgirl replied to superfob's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just like with any doctor, they can be good or they can be terrible, but with them the insurance doesn't cover so you're out so much money if they are a bad one. I'm not sure what you're looking for from the naturopath. If you want info about celiac, read every forum on here and you will get lots of information. I see an acupuncturist for lingering... -
ARCHIVED Finding Out Something I Was Told Was Gluten Free, Actually Isn't?
sandsurfgirl replied to CourtneyLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Baked goods is where I draw the line for eating out. I just don't do it. I make my baked goods at home only. I did get some baked goods from a strictly gluten free bakery once but it was also casein free and free of a bunch of other things and it tasted just awful. And it was so expensive. I bet they aren't being careful about CC. I would talk to the... -
Google gluten free croissant recipes or look for crescent rolls and you'll find some great ones. I mean they are awesome! There's one made with cottage cheese if you can do dairy that I just love.
-
Well look at it like this. Do you want a host of health problems that only worsen over time to be your life? The gluten free life isn't that bad. If you are a baker, then enjoy baking ten loaves of gluten free bread and share your recipes with us. I love gluten free baking. I've gotten good at it and I've found so far that every recipe I've tried has...

ARCHIVED Your Experience With Ataxia
sandsurfgirl replied to cmoore's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mine went away fairly quickly and I didn't even realize it had gone away until I stubbed my toe. I thought wow I haven't bumped into anything in such a long time! So I'm not sure exactly when it went away. I had so many symptoms I lost track of that one. -
ARCHIVED Does Celiac "define" Who I Am?
sandsurfgirl replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would say in many ways it does define me and that's okay. It affects where I can and can't go to eat. There are some places I just cannot go out to eat no matter what, so it can affect my social life. It affects the way I travel, if I travel. It affects my life in myriad ways, so yes it does define me in many ways. But I never ever let it stop me from... -
ARCHIVED 2.5 Year Old Is "spaced Out"
sandsurfgirl replied to MadScientistSA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Those definitely sound like seizures. Not to alarm you but you need to get him to doctor and get a referral to a neurologist. It doesn't sound like a gluten thing to me at all. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Still Have Werid Symptoms
sandsurfgirl replied to chili's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It may not be forever. In the beginning I had to cut dairy, soy, nightshades, tapioca (a tough one with gluten free subs) and xanthan gum!!! But eventually ALL of them came back, even soy. Soy was by far my worst other intolerance reaction and now it's so fine I made food with wheat free soy sauce twice this week. It takes time to heal gut damage and all... -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Have Gluten Reactions Without Celiacs?
sandsurfgirl replied to meggo623's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Personally I don't believe in gluten intolerance. I believe it's all celiac but the tests are crap and not sensitive enough. There are so many stories on here of people who were nearly dying yet only one of the panel of 5 was off (like me. I literally told my husband if I die take care of the children when I was entering the ER.) Then there are those like... -
Your body does very weird things when you first go gluten free. Hang in there and make sure you are't getting any gluten in unexpected places.
-
Use the search function on here to search for withdrawals and you'll get lots and lots of threads with info. It helps to know all the weird stuff your body does is normal! I'm gluten free about a year and 3 months. That's all a distant memory for me, but when it was happening it felt like it would never end. I got better and better all the time, but it...
