  1. all of those symptoms are symtoms of hypo thyroid disease. They are also symptoms of gluten intolerance/Celiac disease. If your symptoms are not totally relieved by the thyroid meds, then it is possible that you're gluten intolerant or Celiac. Try going gluten free for a month or 2. If you feel better, then you know. And your Hashimoto's symptoms...
  2. I got color photo print outs of everything from my throat on down! Each photo is captioned to explain what it is, and what the doctor saw in it. I've got a medium hiatal hernia, atrophy and erythmea in the second part of the duodenum and erosions in the antrum and distal body. No ulcers though! At my follow up, the PA said that all of it was...
  3. I can't imagine cheating. Why the heck would I deliberately send myself writhing in pain on the floor for a few moments pleasure of food? That makes all kinds of No Sense! That said, I've had so many surgeries prior to my diagnosis, I'm now seriously considering having "Celiac" tattoo'd on the inside of one of my wrists, just in case I'm in a car crash...
  4. Can't imagine how much the services of a clinical nutritionist would cost, as compared to say oh I dunno...a couple of books on gluten free living so you can learn about it yourself? I personally don't have the luxury of a clinical nutritionist. I don't even have the luxury of paying full price for said books, though half.com is awesome! Perhaps...
  5. because your body is having an immune reaction to gluten, and it's attacking itself. Tiring work that, I imagine.
  6. there are some brands of coconut oil that have no taste nor smell.
  7. as everyone else has detailed quite a lot on the don't worry so much bit, I will add that sometimes leg and extremities pain can be caused by electrolyte imbalance, and can usually be "cured" simply by making sure you get enough salt and potassium in your diet. One of the main things that we first give up is packaged foods. Packaged foods is where...
  8. drink lots and lots and lots of water, eat flax meal, coconut oil, take a probiotic and a magnesium supplement
  9. I thought Whole Foods had a pretty good record for gluten free food handling training? The last 2 times I've been out to a restaurant, I have said to the server "I'm going to be a pain in the butt..." and I smile and laugh. It breaks the ice, and if you say "allergy" instead of celiac disease or gluten intolerance, they're more receptive, because they...
  10. Yep, I know what you mean! It's amazing how incredibly invasive gluten can be to every part of our being. I've also found that my face is not so blotchy and puffy, the psoriasis on my scalp is going away, I'm not nearly as cranky as I used to be, nor depressed, I can deal with stress so much easier now. I don't miss any of it. Not one bit.
  11. first, make sure you drink LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER, eat flax meal, coconut oil, probiotics, and take a magnesium supplement. All the extra fruit and veggies that you're eating could be irritating your IBS if you're eating mostly raw. Cook the veggies, and go light on the fruits for a while. Limit cruciferous veggies as well (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage...
  12. none that I noticed, no.
  13. I have a coffee grinder and I make almond flour with it. I don't use rice flour or any of those other incredibly high carb flours, so the coffee grinder works great for nut flours.
  14. I've made coconut bread, I use the Cooking with Coconut Flour Cookbook by Bruce Fife. It's awesome. I've also made chocolate cookies, chocolate chip coconut cookies, chocolate cupcakes and pancakes. Oddly, there was no chocolate in the pancakes. Coconut flour is very tasty. And although it's expensive (I pay $10 for 2 pounds) most recipes only...
  15. have you checked the ingredients on all your shampoos and conditioners? If there is wheat in them, you may be reacting topically to it. If you use other hair products (spray, mouse, gels) that have alcohol in the, thy can severely dry your hair. You can use coconut oil topically and on your hair too. Inside and out, it's a good additive to your...
  16. maltodextrin can be made from corn or wheat. If it's made from corn, it's not a celiac problem. If it's made from wheat (more common outside the US) then it *could* be. I've read in several places that because maltodextrin is a "sugar alcohol" that even if it is derrived from wheat, it is fine for celiacs to eat. However I myself had such a bad reaction...
  17. If someone says to me that I'm making it up, or I'm overreacting, or it can't possibly be that bad, I just tell them that if I eat even a small crumb of bread it will cause me pain and intestinal damage. If they want to see me writhing in pain within half an hour, then there's something wrong with them Seriously, it's not us that's different. It's...
  18. it was a company function, I wasn't paying.
  19. eat dark chocolate, with the lowest sugar content possible. It's better for you anyhow, the higher the cocoa content. Sugar is evil. Avoid it whenever possible. Like always. Once you have tinnitus (ringing in the ears) there's not much to do about it but live with it. It can be caused by all sorts of things, not just noise trauma. My ears...
  20. adding more fibre to an already stopped up colon is just going to have more fibre stuck on top of an already stopped up colon! Sometimes laxatives are really the only option. And then once the blockage is cleared, do your utmost to not get stopped up again. I lost about 5 pounds in one day, and haven't had a problem since. I was very very tender in...
  21. I had gas so bad I couldn't stand myself. My eyes would melt sometimes! As soon as I gave up gluten, the noxious cloud was gone. I guess I'm lucky that I don't seem to have any other food issues except gluten. I've had some problems with cross contamination on some packages of nuts and seeds, but other brands of nuts or seeds didn't bother me. Thank...
  22. since celiac diagnosis, I've also been told I'm vitimin D deficient and have high cholesterol. Both easily manageable with diet and supplements. I'm quite certain the cholesterol was elevated because of the gluten challenge and will go back down to normal levels the longer I'm gluten free.
  23. if you are malnourished, then the last part of you to get any of the few nutrients your body receives is going to be your hair and nails. Once you notice your hair and nails getting brittle, you know you're sick! After a while it should rectify. Any gluten free multi-vitimin will help, as will omega 3 oils, and making sure you're eating a properly balanced...
  24. the only sure way to know if you have intestinal damage is to have the endoscopy and biopsy. Blood tests cannot see damage to the villi, and as previously noted, some Celiacs do not have noticable gastric distress symptoms. Try just whole natural foods for a while, rather than going nuts with the baking and prepackaged gluten free alternatives. There...
  25. that really sucks. Management really should teach people how to properly understand their nutrition and allergy information, they could do someone some serious harm!
