ARCHIVED Finally Diagnosed And Wondering If I Have To Live In A Bubble...
kareng replied to Coconutkris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually....I would freak out, in my head for a minute. I don't like to put my produce in plastic bags if I can help it. But then, I would go home and wash them really well. If they were in a plastic bag, I wouldn't worry . I don't set dirty grocery bags on my clean counter. But, since she was new, I wanted to make sure she knew the basics before... -
ARCHIVED Finally Diagnosed And Wondering If I Have To Live In A Bubble...
kareng replied to Coconutkris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are new here. I have no way of knowing that when you say you ate, soy sauce, for example, that it was twice in five years. Or even that it was an accident. We all have an occasional accident but I couldn't tell from your post. You said you tested positive for Celiac, so it would seem that you must have been eating some gluten. There was no explanation... -
ARCHIVED Finally Diagnosed And Wondering If I Have To Live In A Bubble...
kareng replied to Coconutkris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was just responding to your posts, but apparently, the advice I give most people is not right for you. That is your choice. You did say you eat soy sauce, etc and in another post that you eat out every day and are in an environment with flour in the air you are swallowing, etc. I am sorry you don't think you need to eliminate these things nor that reading... -
ARCHIVED Finally Diagnosed And Wondering If I Have To Live In A Bubble...
kareng replied to Coconutkris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you had positive blood antibodies for Celiac, after 5 years you thought were gluten free, I guess you now know you weren't very gluten-free. So you will want to really tighten up your diet. Read the newbie thread to get started. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/page-2#entry896943 -
ARCHIVED New Here - Ongoing Symptoms After Glutening
kareng replied to JustCricket's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately, this is how Celiac " myths" are born. People read the mis- information, and, for some reason, believe it without any research or common sense, and don't come back a day or two later to read the " truth". Sigh.... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Gluten Free For 4 Years And Now Pregnant
kareng replied to stella1717's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sorry but I must correct this cross- reactivity " theory". In fact, most of the foods on the list are so far from close to gluten, it makes little sense to me. Open Original Shared Link What’s with all the talk about certain types of food causing “cross-reactivity?” There is not yet reliable data about cross-reactivity. As for the alleged possibility that ... -
The post you are responding to is over 3 years old. Perhaps policies have changed in that period of time? I know about 4 years ago, our local Culvers didn't know anything about this nor did the company website have much info.

ARCHIVED Is There Extra Medical Care I Should Receive?
kareng replied to upwitht21's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Every year, you should be getting follow up blood work to make sure you aren't making antibodies. I have to print this page I linked to off every year and show my doctor. It can be done by your regular doctor or your OB/GYN. If it is high, you will want to re-evaluate your diet and cc. Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Could Prolonged Gluten Sensitive Cause Liver Damage?
kareng replied to fireflights's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It can be a sign of Celiac disease. Get tested for Celiac , not allergies. However, you need to be eating gluten consistently to get tested. How long have you been gluten free? Open Original Shared Link Do your liver enzymes return to normal after going gluten free? Yes, if the increase was caused by celiac disease. No, if they were elevated... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Gluten Free For 4 Years And Now Pregnant
kareng replied to stella1717's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Pregnancy messes up everyone's digestion - it might be nausea, constipation, diarrhea, gas, heart burn, etc. Amazing what we women can deal with. -
ARCHIVED Cider On Tap?
kareng replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have ordered it before. Beer doesn't come out of the same spout as the cider. Each keg has its own spout. -

ARCHIVED New Here - Ongoing Symptoms After Glutening
kareng replied to JustCricket's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
But stating that Mars uses "run-off chocolate" from gluten candy bars in the making of gluten-free ones isn't something that is going to be researched. It was stated like a fact with no real evidence. Maybe you will get an answer from the candy company and that will explain things - that would be a fact. And while we welcome exchanges of ideas and theories... -
ARCHIVED New To Gluten Intolerance! Nausea And Alcohol Questions
kareng replied to Jeremy1989's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If your having all this stomach issues/nausea, maybe you shouldn't have alcohol of any kind right now? It can be very rough on your stomach. Sodas don't contain gluten but some people, Celiac or not, may have a problem with an ingredient or the bubbles. That doesn't mean you will. If you are going to drink, what about hard ciders? Seems like... -

Its possible to have an issue with another food that has nothing to do with gluten. It may be that rice is just not for you. However, if you were eating premade rice cakes, you probably weren't following the Fasano diet. I think it is all whole foods and no pre-made processed foods like rice cakes or flours. Here's a brief description of the Fasano...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Or Alternative Lab?
kareng replied to MissyBB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Currently, there are no medically accepted tests for Celiac that can be done without eating gluten. Nor are there any tests for NCGS. You could just tell people you have a diagnosis? Its not really any of their business how yo are diagnosed. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Hidden Sources Of Gluten?

I am in the US and I buy whatever plain rice I see, usually Uncle Ben's and Ludberg. Mixes with flavors might have wheat in them. -
ARCHIVED New Here - Ongoing Symptoms After Glutening

Are the soft tortillas wheat or corn? Plain corn ones should be fine. Does it contain a powdered spice packet? Just read the ingredients, it will list if it has wheat. -
ARCHIVED Hidden Sources Of Gluten?
kareng replied to mshanson3121's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have never seen a shredded cheese with flour added. Unless it was some special thing to make a sauce or fondue? The fondue or sauce makers I have seen use corn or potato starch but I suppose its possible. Just shows you always have to read the ingredients. fortunately, in the US, Canada and some other countries, wheat has to be labeled clearly. -
ARCHIVED New, Have Some Questions About My Children
kareng replied to mshanson3121's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs

ARCHIVED Hidden Sources Of Gluten?
kareng replied to mshanson3121's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I guess some things that surprised me when I started, but are labeled as containing wheat or malt are: Anything with soy sauce - "Asian"/Teryaki salad dressings (but I have found a few made with soy sauce that doesn't contain wheat) Rice Krispies & corn Flakes (the ones not labeled gluten-free have malt) Non-gluten-free oats - didn't know oats contain...
