  1. Not being able to spend several thousand dollars is a legitimate reason not to go. I'm sure you aren't the only one.
  2. I'm assuming its a destination wedding? At a resort? You could call and talk to the resort as some of the bigger places can accomadate. Also, use the google function I think someone had good luck in Costa Rica. But, if you don't want to go, I think telling her that you wish you could but can't afford it is a good reason.
  3. Sounds like you should worry about cc when you eat out. If you are still making antibodies, maybe you should stop eating out? Re- check what you eat at home? Medications? Vitamins? Just because you don't feel the damage, the gluten is still damaging you.
  4. Wow! I want to go to Hawaii, now! I don't want to wait for the last kid to get out to college!
  5. For most humans, corn is hard to digest. If I eat a lot of corn - Corn Chex, tortillas and corn on the cob for lunch and nachos on corn chips for dinner....I start to feel bad. But less corn is OK. For many people, I think its just a digestion issue and some corn oil on potato chips or corn starch in a bowl of chili or corn in a multigrain cracker might...
  6. I think it depends on what your corn issue is. A lot of people can't eat a bunch of corn tortillas or corn on the cob but a little corn oil is OK.
  7. I haven't had those. I like these. The white ones are the closet to a regular chip but fragile. The black bean ones are good and a bit sturdier but don't taste as tortilla chippy. Open Original Shared Link
  8. Once again - Genetic research is not the OP's question. If you want to discuss research into other genes that may be associated with Celiac, start your own thread and discuss. If you want to slam Mass General and Dr. Fasano, I'm not sure that would be a good new topic without some real evidence of whatever you are accusing Dr. F of doing or not doing.
  9. I don't know anything about that website. It is a bit confusing. I would go with what Advil actually says which is a bit of a CYA statement. Open Original Shared Link "Gluten is not added to Advil® Film-Coated products during the manufacturing process. However, we cannot guarantee that minute amounts of gluten or gluten derivatives are not contained ...
  10. Why isn't Advil safe? Tylenol is the one that most doctors are advising people to not use very often because of liver damage? I think it was liver damage. Anyway, try different generics? Target Ibuprophen says gluten-free on the box. Maybe the acetaminophen is labelled gluten-free too? I think Walgreens has some things labeled gluten-free. Open...
  11. This is correct. It isn't quite as simple as Middle School genetics but the basic idea stands. Genes are "double". When an egg is made, it splits. Each egg/eventual child gets 1 split half from the mom and one from the dad. If you have the "gene" on only 1 half, it is possible the child won't get that half. Therefore, she might have gotten it from Dad...
  12. This thread isn't about your opinions about medical research institutions or trying to argue with me. I am not "excluding" anyone. I just wanted the OP to see info from reputable research facilities. .
  13. This is a 3 year old thread. In the last year, Dominos has offered a gluten-free crust. However, because of cc issues, they do say that the " gluten-free" pizzas are not for Celiacs. Here is one of the many discussions: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/93298-dough-dominos-makes-gluten-free-crust-but-its-not-safe-for-celiacs-opposing-views/
  14. I'm not trying to argue. I'm just putting some links to reputable Celiac Research Centers. Blogs and forum posts of people's experiences are interesting but not necessarily the best place to get your scientific info.
  15. Pacific has gluten-free cream of chicken. Maybe you could add some cheese?
  16. What do you usually make green bean casserole with? Usually its cream of mushroom soup and does not contain cheese.
  17. More info: "What is the meaning of HLA DQ2/DQ8? As an autoimmune disease, celiac disease is the consequence of the interplay between genes and the environment (gluten). We don’t know all the necessary genes to develop celiac disease; however, HLA DQ2 and/or DQ8 are absolutely necessary to develop the disease. Since 1/3 of the general population also h...
  18. I know some people use Funyons for the onions and this gluten-free cream of mushroom soup Open Original Shared Link We aren't a big fan of the traditional GB Casserole. We like the one I posted here: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/104920-recipes-needed-please/
  19. This isn't true. At least not with current knowledge. If you do not have a DQ 8 or DQ2 gene, you cannot have Celiac. The DQ8 is the least common. Only around 5% of people have this gene. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  20. While it sometimes takes a few months for antibodies to go down, That is usually people with sky-high antibody numbers. Not everyone is that bad off. Open Original Shared Link
  21. If you have Celiac - those "little things" are too much gluten. Eating burgers off of buns and foods with a little gluten in them means that you have not been gluten free. However, I'm not sure if that is causing your episodes. If you believe gluten is the cause or were diagnosed with Celiac, you need to eat very gluten free.
  22. If they add a flavoring in or something like that, you would want to know what they used. But plain wine is gluten free.
  23. Its an evil myth that wine has gluten! I think the key here may be " when I went out to dinner". Perhaps the food is not as gluten-free as you may think it is?
  24. We had left-over Mexican lasagna! Hard to get it hot in the microwave as it doesn't have much fat, but maybe better left-over. Trying to decide on dinner for tonight. I will be busy until about 8 so I was thinking something in the crockpot. Just can't get too excited about anything. I have some grilled chicken, maybe I will make some spicy peanut...
  25. Should we change the title of this thread to "Everything is better covered in chocolate?" Or "Would you eat it chocolate covered?" Open Original Shared Link
