ARCHIVED Is Wine gluten-free?
kareng replied to KikiUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The first link is not a reliable scientific source. The second link pertains to fluoride poisoning as an immediate event - a child eating the whole tube of toothpaste for example. It mentions that low levels will not "poison" you. Once again, I would caution that this is a Celiac forum and other agendas are not appropriate here or pertain to the topic... -

ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed, Need Help With Some Food Questions!
kareng replied to deluxlux's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I only know what the labeling laws are in the US. So I'm answering from that perspective. Cheese should be safe. I haven't seen any with gluten except for a few gourmet cheeses made with beer. Perhaps you could call a company that makes the type of cheese you are talking about and ask. However, if your villi are severely damaged, it will be hard to... -
ARCHIVED Is Wine gluten-free?
kareng replied to KikiUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
this isn't an anti ( insert your agenda here) forum, so I'm not going to insist you back this claim up with scientific evidence. We dont need this topic to go off on odd tangents. We were discussing gluten and wine. Lets keep the discussion to that, please. -
ARCHIVED What Would You Do?
kareng replied to Jrg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's not the same as your insurance won't pay for it. So an appeal wouldn't make any sense. -
ARCHIVED What Would You Do?
kareng replied to Jrg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have your GI contest that by giving the insurance company more info? It might delay it a couple of weeks but that is what most doctors offices do. -

ARCHIVED Dairy Allergy And Now Calcium Supplements
kareng replied to seraphim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Actually, I usually tell people to read the labels, look at the website or email the company if the ingredients aren't clear. Most are people new to gluten free and need help learning how to read labels. If they are new- we have had them post ingredients so we can help them understand. I would like people to learn to do this themselves. I have seen people... -

kareng replied to niese's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I live with gluten and the people who eat it. We use the same dishes, forks, etc run thru the dishwasher. -

ARCHIVED Looking For Md Recommendations In Northern Nj, Nyc, Or Ct
kareng replied to granite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If his Celiac tests are positive, why is he still consuming gluten? May he should try to eat gluten free and get a negative test and see how he feels? If this is caused by gluten, perhaps he can heal at least some of the damage. However... I hope you took him in immediately to an emergency room to make sure he didn't have a stroke. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Two Months...coping With...recent Gluten Binge
kareng replied to BOXCARCUT's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are not eating gluten, they can't test you for Celiac. Something to consider. -
This is just someone's blog. There is no scientific evidence for this "cross-reactivity" in Celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link "What’s with all the talk about certain types of food causing “cross-reactivity?” There is not yet reliable data about cross-reactivity. As for the alleged possibility that many gluten-free foods or drinks (such as co...

ARCHIVED Does Lactose Produce The Same Symptoms As Gluten For Some?
kareng replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The bloating, gas, etc sounds like lactose intolerant. The stuffy nose sounds like a milk allergy. Might need to experiment with the lactose free dairy products and see. -

ARCHIVED Dairy Allergy And Now Calcium Supplements
kareng replied to seraphim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The fact is - the company knows what is in the product and the manufacturing practices. If you are that worried about a product - why would you want to know what some random stranger on the internet might say? How would they really know anything different than you do? go directly to the company. -
This might be helpful https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ Eating just processed and boxed foods isn't very healthy gluten free or not. You can eat meat, dairy (if it agrees with you), rice, veggies (fresh, frozen or canned), fruits, beans, eggs, etc. Just read the ingredients. A plain frozen veggie probably doesn't...

ARCHIVED Dairy Allergy And Now Calcium Supplements
kareng replied to seraphim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just curious.... What do you know about this company " Now" to make you believe they are lying to the public when they say the calcium is dairy free and gluten free? That appears to be what you are saying when you question their listing of ingredients and ingredient statements? -

ARCHIVED Reactions From Touching Gluten?
kareng replied to clu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gluten has to be ingested to cause a Celiac reaction. Do they make the bagels where you work? It's possible the flour in the air is getting swallowed. Possible you are allergic to something in the bagel store? I realize this is specifically about Play Doh but it pertains to touching gluten Open Original Shared Link "Should I worry about my... -
ARCHIVED Fatty Stools And Confusion
kareng replied to Macmuireadhaigh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I haven't heard the term " end stage" for Celiac Disease also known as Celiac Sprue. Perhaps someone was referring to almost total damage of the biopsied parts of the small intestine. That can heal on a gluten free diet. The reason many Celiacs have trouble with dairy is that the lactase that digest the lactose in milk, is made in the villi. No villi... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Here Really Knowledgeable In Interpreting Blood Test?
kareng replied to JohnS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm back to what did your doctor say? Maybe you should see a GI doc? Isn't that test for Chron's? Maybe something else? Since you have a positive test for Chron's disease, you should talk to a GI. She didn't refer you to one? Well...maybe someone has some knowledge of tests that don't relate to Celiac and can help you. Weekends can be a bit slow here... -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Here Really Knowledgeable In Interpreting Blood Test?
kareng replied to JohnS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you want to put your Celiac panel results with reference ranges, we have many people who can help you. What did the doctor say? How long were you gluten free when they were run? They aren't valid if you haven't been eating gluten. That's not MY opinion, its a fact. Open Original Shared Link
