ARCHIVED Red Doritos Changed The Ingredients List. Is It gluten-free?
kareng replied to koalbish's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Peter, let me handle this one! I LOVE chips and have the hips, thighs, etc to prove it! This? "DORITOS® Nacho Cheese Flavored Tortilla Chips *In 2011, we reformulated DORITOS® Nacho Cheese Tortilla Chips to remove wheat from the recipe. While some older packages may show “wheat” on the ingredient statement, please be assured that all Doritos Nacho... -

ARCHIVED Am I Just A Wuss? (Staying Home After Gluten/soy/whateverings)
kareng replied to Pegleg84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You missed the point. The point being - if you are having issues with gluten that are affecting your life adversely and you can do something to prevent them, you should. If that means not eating out or not eating dairy or taking your meds, than do it. I'm not arguing with you anymore because it won't make any difference. -
ARCHIVED Whole Earth Peanut Butter (Palm Oil)
kareng replied to stormbind's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glad you realize that link isn't a good source. it looked like you were saying it was. Spelt is wheat. Still not sure how a palm plant would contain gluten. This is an old argument on here about the mis-use of the word gluten. The gluten that Celiacs must avoid is the gluten found in Wheat (and its various names), rye, barley and sometimes...- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Whole Earth Peanut Butter (Palm Oil)
kareng replied to stormbind's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
First - how would something that come only from a Palm plant have gluten which comes from wheat, rye or barley? "Modified palm oil is not naturally gluten free" Second- your link is not a "reliable" source. Gluten and casein are not structually similiar. Please read some reputable sites, not just internet "doctors" trying to take your money...- 6 replies

All my biopsies were as flat as possible. I eat cheese. Some people without Celiac can't eat cheese because of lactose intolerances. Give it 6 months or a year and try it again.

What do they use for the batter? Just curious. Might be fun to try these as I'm not going to batter and fry fish. -

ARCHIVED Basic Groceries, A Question
kareng replied to julissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Shared facility, maybe , maybe not. Lots of things are made in a "shared facility" and you would never know. They don't have to tell you. Shared machines makes me think twice. For me, it depends on what the item is. Something floury, like pasta, I might not take a chance on. Seems like it would be harder to clean the machines than a pasta sauce machine... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Microwave Frozen Meals
kareng replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe I'm being a bit touchy but it seems like we can't post a "processed" food we like without a lot of "I can't eat that" and "its not good for you because". I think I have a right to get a bit pissed once in a while, too. I usually get over it quickly because I like youse guys. I really didn't expect any comments, except maybe a "yea. I Iike the chicken...- 38 replies

I eat Chex. If they don't bother him and his follow-up Celiac panels are fine, he is probably not having any damage. My antibodies are at a normal level when re-checked every year.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Microwave Frozen Meals

They have different "flavors". Looks like some are dairy and soy free. And really, folks...this is a Celiac forum...these are gluten free. If they don't work for you because you can't or don't like an ingredient, fine. No need to trash them or complain that I haven't posted something you would use. People post recipes for quinoa. I don't like quinoa...- 38 replies

ARCHIVED Swollen Tongue
kareng replied to Leis's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Do you have nursing care? If its a swollen tongue, that's usually an allergy and could be serious if it impedes breathing. And you know slurring could be a sign of a stroke. I think you need immediate medical care. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Microwave Frozen Meals
kareng posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am currently eating an Artisan Bistro gluten-free frozen " meal". This one is the Cheddar Beef Bake. I microwaved it and its pretty tasty. Not very big or cheesy but has a nice spicyness. Only 250 calories so it can't be very big. Not sure about the price as I got them on sale for about $2.89. Organic, grass- fed no hormone beef. Open Original Shared...- 38 replies
