They didn't have any flour named those. Think it will work with just the rice flour? -
ARCHIVED "you Can Eat Just A Little Bit, Can't You?"
kareng replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I kept thinking about this. I'm not sure the "food pushing" is really a problem. If she had a bag of those little oranges and kept telling everyone they were good, have one, it wouldn't be unusual. We had a mom at Robotics doing that. Got most of the kids to eat a fuit with thier lunch! What is odd and rather mean - is insisting that someone eat... -

Anyone know what "sweet rice flour" is? I have a recipe for lime bars that uses white rice flour and sweet rice flour (about 1/4 of the total flour) for the crust. WF didn't have any. I think I'll try it with just white rice flour and see what happens. -

Good idea! I think this should be brought up in front of your instructor. The thing that stood out for me is you and the Food pusher are studying to be a chaplain. Did she not just fail the class for that behavior? Can you imagine a newly diagnosed Celiac or cancer patient or diabetic going to her for some moral support counseling and being told its... -
ARCHIVED Living Normally While Battling Celiac Is Like:
kareng replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Before she added/ edited, it sounded like she was saying it is impossible to live with Celiac at all. Just as it isn't possible to plug your computer into a whale. By asking everyone for analogies of how impossible it is to be a Celiac, I felt that was very negative and perhaps a sign of depression. She has tried to explain that that is not the case, so... -
ARCHIVED Secret Deodorant
kareng replied to DutchGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gluten must be in the GI track for a Celiac reaction. Many choose gluten-free lotions and shampoos because it is easy to get them in the mouth. I don't worry about deodorant. -

. I'm getting dizzy! This post is mostly the same but the other ones keep changing! ( editing) This still sounds like you are saying Celiac is impossible but I give up. I can't follow it. I'm not sure what we are talking about now. -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Betty Crocker Brownies And Cookies
kareng replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would email or call them and ask. -
You would need to contact them to see if they test and at what sensitivity. There is no legal definition in the US of gluten free. Testing is not required to label something gluten-free.

ARCHIVED Living Normally While Battling Celiac Is Like:
kareng replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So...you are trying to say that a person with Celiac can not live a "normal" life? I don't find that very encouraging to newly diagnosed people. For the newly diagnosed: It can be an uphill hike for a while, but I feel I live a " normal" life. I make dinner, I walk my dog, I avoid cleaning my house as long as possible.... The only things I don... -

Wow! That sounds pretty hopeless! Perhaps if you feel this despondent you should seek some counseling? There is no shame in taking antidepressants temporarily if you need them. It can be a long hard road to get well, but it isn't impossible. -

One thing to do would be to not have these foods around you. Don't have them in the house. -

We would probably be intolerant to it! -
I think we sometimes forget that these boards do not represent the majority of Celiacs. Most of them are not on forums and boards. So I think to state as a fact that "It's a common thing for us within 2 years of going gluten-free" is a bit misleading. If you have read a good article about that, then we would love a link to it.

I haven't seen any info on that.

ARCHIVED Do People With Celiac Absorb Sugar?
kareng replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Diabetes is a VERY SERIOUS medical condition. It is not something to "figure out on your own" or play around with home tests. -

Maybe it's exercise for weeks before the cramps? The only thing that helped when mine were bad was a hot pad and some muscle relaxant they used to give in the previous century. -

ARCHIVED "naturally Gluten Free"
kareng replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think common sense helps. It is not likely there is any wheat in a cheese factory, for example. I realize someone will tell you there is gluten everywhere and if the guy picking the fruit eats wheat bread for lunch, your fruit is contaminated. I choose to use common sense. I choose to educate myself about how products are grown and made. -
ARCHIVED "naturally Gluten Free"
kareng replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many things are gluten free. Grapes are naturally gluten free. Would be silly for the grape company to pay for gluten testing and add the cost on for everyone. What I'm trying to point out is, some companies are not going to pay for testing that will add to the cost for everyone. Because they haven't tested, the lawyers advise them not to say just... -

I would say that if you had a stomach virus, your guts are messed up. Those things can get you off whack for awhile. I make the boys eat yogurt ( probiotic) for a few days until it evens out. -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac
kareng replied to gypsyrosenfmommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This assumes a "normal" diet with gluten in it. For adults: Open Original Shared Link "Is it possible to have a negative blood test, but a positive biopsy? While rare, it is possible to have a negative blood test and still have celiac disease. tTG sensitivity is approximately 98%, which means that 2% of all celiacs may have a normal tTG level.... -
