ARCHIVED Now The Daily Mail Joins Daily Beast In Claims That Gluten Intolerance Could Equal Eating Disorder!
kareng replied to Takala's topic in Publications & Publicity
I wonder what they are counting as gluten-free foods that people are buying? Fritos now say gluten-free on them. Crunchmaster crackers happen to be gluten-free and say so but everyone I know buys them because they are tasty. They serve them in the same bowl with thier Ritz crackers. Chex say gluten-free on them but I doubt only people eating gluten-free...- 12 replies

ARCHIVED Why The Symptom Rebound?
kareng replied to texmatt21's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
MSG is not made of gluten in the US. Many people, with Celiac and without Celiac, have problems with MSG. -
ARCHIVED Help With Lab Result Interpretation
kareng replied to cwredden's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Curious....why didn't you go to a doctor and get a blood test? from what I have seen with Enterolabs, everyone gets a positive result. . I don't believe scientists have identified any genes for gluten sensitivity as that is a fairly new area of study. Also read this link and the link T the bottom of it: Open Original Shared Link ...- 5 replies

ARCHIVED Why Would Ttg Disappear?! Help!
kareng replied to kerid's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm just trying to explain what the current accepted medical information is. The part about Celiac's not having antibodies doesn't make sense. The presence of the antibodies in the blood are one of signs of Celiac. I'm not sure how you got that info. Please share your sources. -
ARCHIVED Why Would Ttg Disappear?! Help!
kareng replied to kerid's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are several things wrong here. Celiac produces the antibodies. NCGI (non-celiac gluten intolerance) does not. That's why its not Celiac. This isn't true either - "about 70% of full-blown celiac's antibodies don't show up in blood, while almost 100% show up in stool". If you have reputable sources for this info, please post them as I have not... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Here. Some General Q's What's Better, Gastro Vs. Endo?
kareng replied to Wowza's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Its possible you don't have Celiac. You could have NCGI (non-Celiac gluten intolerance). It can be every bit as nasty as Celiac but won't show on antibody tests or biopsy. You still might want to have the endo, just to make sure you don't have an ulcer or something else. Do you have a copy of your blood tests? You might want to post them here so we...- 5 replies

ARCHIVED Newbie Here. Some General Q's What's Better, Gastro Vs. Endo?
kareng replied to Wowza's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sometimes the word gastroscopy is used to mean endo (correctly or not). Make sure you have an appointment with the GI before the procedure and make sure you are getting biopsies of the intestine. The GI should be the one to decide what you need. Have you had the blood tests for Celiac? Why not do those first ? Your regular doc can order those. Remember...- 5 replies

ARCHIVED French's Mustard - Gluten Free?
kareng replied to moonchild's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
FYI= The product info on this thread is almost 6 years old. Products change in that period of time. Also, there can be differences based on country -
Lactose intolerance isn't an allergy so it wouldn't show on an allergy test. celiac damages the part of your intestines that digest lactose ( dairy).
-
Wy not try the easiest and most obvious cause of bloating first? Before you cut out all grains or anything else? Cut out the dairy for a month and see if it helps. You might be able to add it back after you heal.
-
Maybe try cutting all the dairy out for a few weeks? Even with Lactaid. My SIL is extremely sensitive to lactose and sometimes the Lactaid doesn't help.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Prenatal Vitamins
kareng replied to jamer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Being pregnant, you might want to skip the artificial sweeteners and go for full strength. Usually a bit of sugar makes the nausea better. -
Lactose intolerant? Do you eat any dairy?

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Prenatal Vitamins
kareng replied to jamer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many of these phone apps are incorrect. Not sure if its because they haven't gotten an official statement from the manufacturer or what. I have never seen a mainstream soda with gluten in it in the US. Nature made seems to make many gluten free vitamins Open Original Shared Link -
How do you prepare the rice paper? Do you cook it? Does it stay rolled up if you want to bring it for lunch? Could I freeze ones with freezable insides and thaw at a later date?

Last night - grilled steaks ( marinated a bit in Teryaki) and some red potatoes with olive oil in foil packets. Green beans. Got some odd red potatoes. The select the ones you want we're picked over so I grabbed a bigger bag. They cooked up really soft and were yellow colored on the inside. M said they are like buttery potatoes. Today I looked at the... -

ARCHIVED Been 2 Years And Still Coping
kareng replied to rebeccanicole88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I make a very thin crust on gluten-free tortillas (not the corn kind). I spray the tortilla with a little oil and bake it for 2 minutes to get it a bit brown. Then I put a little jarred pasta sauce on it and cheese, etc and bake until the cheese is starting to brown. there are frozen gluten-free pizza crusts you can get, too. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free For...3 Days. Help!
kareng replied to Vinturi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The reason they say to go dairy free for at least a few weeks is because the part of your intestine that the Celiac damages is the part that digests dairy. I didn't go dairy free. I don't drink milk. I just tried to eat small amounts - like 1 slice on a sandwich but not other dairy at that meal. That worked for me. Might work for you. Might not. You... -

ARCHIVED Feeling Overwhelmed And Hopeless
kareng replied to FrumpyWife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
He doesn't need his own fridge or his own pans. Just stuff that can't be cleaned well like a colander or a toaster. He shouldn't put out food on a counter. He should always use a plate or bowl so no crumbs that might be on the table or counter get on his cookies. He needs to take some responsibility for his own safety, too. . Maybe you could get... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Overwhelmed And Hopeless
kareng replied to FrumpyWife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had another thought.....how much did he used to spend on drinking? $15 a week? Thats loaf of pre- made gluten-free bread and a lot of gluten-free pasta, enough so you only have to make one kind of pasta. Let hub fix his own food for a while? Until you get it under better control?
