ARCHIVED What To Feed Friends Helping Us Move?
kareng replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Can you eat outside? That might help with the crumbs. Maybe you could make something ahead that you could microwave or pop in the oven when it's time to eat like pasta. Then have salad, fruit, etc.. Does everyone need to be dairy & soy free? Could you make gluten-free sandwiches, chips, fruit? Grill? -
You may have the most significant & important post of the year! Tea that tastes like coffee! We will be expecting big things from you now! Welcome!

Russell! Welcome back! Isn't it easier to keep up with the posts then trying to go back & trying to catch up? I'm not telling J about the Manny job. He would rather play Legos, go to the pool, ride bikes & play with a bunny. He would cure Max of the need to discuss his parts. -
ARCHIVED How Long Does Gluten Live In Things?
kareng replied to sreese68's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Gluten doesn't die. It's not living. Think of it like sand. You have little bits of sand in all the cracks that can fall out into your cookies. Or when the new cookie dough oozes up into the little cracker, it can grab some. Can you bake these molds at high temps? The oven cleaning cycle is supposed to be hot enough to burn the gluten protein. Put a... -
I thought more about what it would take to successfully sue. Probably wouldn't get rich. Probably have to sue in small claims court. Depending on your state, maximum awards are $2500-5000. If you could prove that it was the meal that made you sick, not anything else (food poisioning from another meal, gluten from another meal, virus, etc) then...

ARCHIVED Having A Celiac Break Down
kareng replied to valeriek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nothing I made is complicated as I am very lazy. We eat a lot of the same things we ate before gluten-free. I like to cook extra so I can have lunch or left overs. Left over chili is great on nachos, or to dip chips, taco salad, on a baked potato. Make a bunch of rice and grill up chicken & freeze in little baggies to use for many things. Frozen... -
Probaly can't. There is probably a discalimer on the menu in ittle print ab ut how they are a shared facility and can't guantee, stc. Also, good luck finiding a judge that would have any clue what you are talking about & rule in your favor. The thing to do is call & talk to the manager. If its a big chain, email the corporate office. Not...

I didn't mean the anxiety wasn't real or couldn't be caused by gluten. It didn't sound like there was any gluten in what she ate. If she had come back on, today, calmer, I would have suggested she look at other ingredients, like soy. Or cc in the mayonnaise jar. I was just trying to help her calm down and feel less anxious. When you are" panicking"...

ARCHIVED First Time....what To Pack?
kareng replied to GF4LifeinWI's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
To add to the above: Make a couple of sandwiches and freeze them. Cheese & crackers. A few microwave safe paper plates & plastic silverware. Call and ask about the microwave. Some places will give you one if you have a medical need. I froze a container of chili for dinner. I froze cooked chicken. Brought shredded carrots and cheese & a small... -

Maybe he wanted to get you a little something? I always liked Lands End suits. You could get different bra types and strategic draping or pleating. As strategic as an article of clothing can be that leaves 80% of you uncovered. -
ARCHIVED Blood Work/colonoscopy
kareng replied to karisamh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just because you were negative 2 years ago, you could have developed it & test positive now. My kids are negative. They will get the blood test every 2 -3 years if they have no symptoms. If they have symptoms, we would test them right away. -
ARCHIVED Lost And Confused And Sad
kareng replied to marie33's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You will need a whole endoscopy, I to the small intestine, with multiple biopsies to diagnose Celiac. Just looking at the esophagus & maybe stomach isn't going to work for Celiac. -

kareng replied to valeriek's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, most of them are. Here's the link for the US: Open Original Shared Link Frito Lay has recently been making some chips specifically gluten-free. The others have "no gluten ingredients" but may be made on shared lines or factory. -

I think POW is how I will determine style from now on. I have to go throw this iced tea out! It tastes like soap! I knew I shouldn't have scrubbed the iced tea pitcher. I usually just sort of rinse but the tea builds up & I scrubbed it really well. Now it tastes like soap! Good thing Dawn is gluten-free. -

I still don't know why that is the only things you think you can eat? Look on the dinner thread like I suggested. Here's what I ate yesterday: gluten-free Rice Krispies Left-over rice, corn, cheese, mild pepper casserole with added fresh tomatoes Kettle corn Dinner (whole family ate this): Red potatoes cut into little pieces, tossed with olive... -
ARCHIVED Worried My Doc Has Ordered The Wrong Test!
kareng replied to speedy2056's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't take him your notes. Take him a copy of the page. Circle the tests. It is more likely a doctor will believe the info if it comes from other doctors. Your just some stupid patient who thinks he knows more than a doctor and has been shopping for illnesses on the internet. (not my actual opinion, just a possible doctor's thoughts). -

But why don't you eat other things? There are lots of things to eat that are gluten free. Vegetables, fruit, beans, pasta sauce, rice, quinoa, Chex cereals, cheese, salsa, corn torillas, potatoes, chicken, beef, fish, salads, etc. LOok on the What's for dinner thread & see all the things people are eating. Eating 1 limited meal a day will make... -

ARCHIVED Upcoming Colonoscopy/endoscopy
kareng replied to smilethroughsickness's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me, with my damaged intestines, this is what happened. I did the clear liquid all day, then at 4 pm the laxatives & the drinking stuff. I found that I felt awful but was cleared out by 10 -10:30 and could sleep the night. I think because I was already moving things thru quickly because of the damage. I felt bad more due to my extreme anemia then...
