ARCHIVED Partner May Have celiac disease?
kareng replied to rgarton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You two may be a match made in heaven! He does sound like he might have Celiac, too. I'm a girl so I haven't exeprienced the ED. I have seen it posted on here several times that that improves with gluten free. Use the google search in the top right corner & see what you find. It might be a big age difference for some people. I think its more... -

My mom was always wanting to make me potatoe salad. Her recipe makes too much for her & my dad to eat. I had to explain that seh was cokking & draining...

ARCHIVED Question About Spices & Chemicals
kareng replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can certainly comment and ask for help for the Celiac disease. Just be aware that some of our ideas might not work with your additional medical problem. They might work for your boys. People on this forum want to help. Just give thier ideas some consideration. Thanks for taking a little time on the typing. It is much easier to understand. None of... -
ARCHIVED Question About Spices & Chemicals
kareng replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is a Celiac and gluten intolerance forum. Some people do have other health issues to consider as you do. I don't think anyone was arguing with you. I think most people were trying to be helpful. For instance, you had stated that you couldn't have Whey or casein but then you said that you drank milk. We thought you might not have understood that... -
ARCHIVED Question About Spices & Chemicals
kareng replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with Ravenwood. If you can't eat whey, you can't eat milk. Take it our for a few weeks and replace it with the hemp milk. -

ARCHIVED I Think I Just Got Glutened!
kareng replied to dube's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That anti clumping stuff is often corn based. NOt a problem for most Celiacs but a problem for your corn allergy person. I prefer shredding the cheese my self then putting it in a baggie to use for a few days. -
ARCHIVED Homemade Gluten-Free Cookies
kareng replied to Katrala's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This was a fav at our house pre-gluten-free. I use 1/2 cup brown & 1/2 white sugar, tsp vanilla and chocolate chips. -
I have seen info on here that different size Reeses are made on different machines, perhaps even different factories. So the warning might make sense for one size but not the other. Either way, it doesn't hurt you not to eat them.

ARCHIVED We All Get Discrimination From Normal People !
kareng replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Forgot to add this: my hub is in Human Resources. He was reading an article that suggested that most of the population qualifies as disabled in some fashion. A bad knee disables you if you are a roofer but not if you work in Human Resources. Celiac keeps me from life long career ambition as a beer taster. -
ARCHIVED We All Get Discrimination From Normal People !
kareng replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's funny. Normal is a medium height woman with pale skin, freckles and reddish hair. And she has a dog named Cooper. Grouches in trashcans are not normal. They are interesting and funny. I kinda think the point really is that everybody has something others think is odd or different. If it's not my weird eating habits, it's the fact that their... -

Magnum Ice Cream
kareng replied to bridgetm's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It says Wheat. It doesn't have to have the allergen info, it just has to spell out the word "Wheat". That is clearly labelling an allergen. Wouldn't touch them! Don't bother the poor company help line. They have already clearly disclosed this info to you. -
Just use regular powdered sugar. It isn't made with wheat. I just get any kind of plain spices, Read the labels but usually, if I'm getting basil the ingredients say "basil". A mix of spices might have wheat. I have seen a taco & chili seasoning with wheat listed. I usuy use Williams taco or chili because they have some without wheat for a...

ARCHIVED Girl Scouts And gluten-free (Not)
kareng replied to Mizzo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have Boy Scouts but from what I have heard is that these GS people are volunteers and moms. I don't think we should expect lay people to understand or even be able or aware of the proper precautions to keep us safe. Next year, way ahead of time, when they do the volunteer sign-ups, sign-up. Plan the meals, activities, etc. My hub & I volunteer... -

ARCHIVED Maintaining Some (Small) Tolerance
kareng replied to Jeff In San Diego's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since actual Celiac is an immune response, even the little crouton would cause the production of antibodies and thus damage. If its not Celiac but intolerance....who knows. -

ARCHIVED New Dx 2 Teens
kareng replied to maximoo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's an autoimmune disease. A little will still cause your body to make antibodies and start attacking itself. Your kids will continue to be malnourished and have stunted growth. I am being "mean" because my son has a friend whose mom never had her be completely gluten-free. Her mom is almost 6 foot tall. The daughter isn't 5 foot. Until she decided...
