ARCHIVED Corned Beef
kareng replied to compucajun's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cooked cabbage does not agree with me. Raw, like in a salad or cole slaw, doesn't bother me. I'm Irish & German, I should be able to gobble the stuff up! -

Did you see the boxer dog on the trampoline? That should cheer you up. I'm thinking of getting a trampoline just to put my neighbors boxer on. FIRST Robotics build season officially begins tomorrow. J has been training with a professional welder all week. M has been welding anyway. -
I think in a store that is making and baking glutony donuts, some flour might be in the air and landing on cups, pots, sugar packs, employees and customers. I go to Starbucks. I don't get the flavors added but most of the flavors are fine. Coffee & decaf coffee has acid in it that is hard on your stomach. I found that adding some milk helps neutralize...

ARCHIVED Soy Sauce In Thai Kitchen Products
kareng replied to jlee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think it's gluten-free soy sauce. I have seen things with gluten soy sauce and it says soy sauce ( soy, wheat, salt). If they say it's gluten-free it likely is. Lots of us on here eat their products that are labelled gluten-free. -
Makes you feel better to yell at him but makes you look foolish. Ignore him but if he starts showing up at your apt or work, talk to your dad. A lawyer in the family is a handy thing to have.

You are married and a grown-up now. Unfriend him on FB, take him off the IM list, whatever. You don't even need to speak to him or his family except to be polite. If you see them at church, you can smile and say Hello and walk on. Really, anymore talking to him or writing him, just encourages him and demeans you. You don't have to explain yourself or...

That was great! Loved the boxer on the trampoline! Think if we taught Cooper to ride a bike, he wouldn't be so afraid of them? -
Hope you are having fun. I don't have a recipe but you could google "vegan muffins recipe".

ARCHIVED Omg, I Am In Bread Heaven!
kareng replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The Chebe bread stick mix is great! I made it for Xmas dinner and the gluten eaters gobbled them up. We used shredded Asiago instead of grated parm. Halfway thru the baking, we brushed them with olive oil and sprinkled garlic salt & garlic powder. They would be good with pizza sauce to dip. Also, fun for kids to make. You roll them in your hands... -

Legos and Bionicles wash well! Kids who only play with them, tend to spill or barf or cough or sneeze on them. So I have experience washing them. -

Not sure how that will work. Don't they lay the cut bread on a little counter with the toppings? Then reach gloved hands in the toppings? And the crumbs off the cut bread get pushed or dropped in the toppings? -
I would be afraid to eat there. I ate at one 2 times pre- gluten-free and each time the orders were wrong - no chicken on a chicken something salad, cheese on a burger we made a fuss about kid hates cheese, no pecans on the chicken pecan salad, etc. Not particullary good food, just large amounts. The cheesecakes are good, not great.

A class for Jeff to look forward to... The school has made an engineering class just for Jeff ( his head is getting bigger). Maybe we can incorporate some of this probability into it! -
ARCHIVED Oh, My Dog, These gluten-free Products Are Expensive!
kareng replied to Wise's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There is a lot of rice grown in California. It has to have the right conditions so it probably couldn't grow in KS, NE, etc. My great uncle liked to experiment with crops. Sorghum was one he was able to grow. Maybe they could subsidize some alternative grains. When I went to school, tuition was paid by " wheat checks". If the wheat crop was bad for... -

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed, Can't Really Afford The Over Priced Foods.
kareng replied to tessabear's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Try contacting social work at the children's hospital and the hospital that follows your neuro issue if you want to see if you could get some financial assistance. Until then, rice, beans, frozen veggies, Thai Kitchen rice noodles or some other Asian rice noodles ( instead of spaghetti). PB, Quaker rice cakes ( the large size are gluten-free), Chex or... -

Honey, I just looked at your profile and found your medical problems. Have you been followed by a children's hospital? The social workers there should be able to help you with applying for any programs you qualify for. I can snoop around a little, and see if I can find anything, if you want. -

Tessa, Did you graduate from high school? Did you get any special help in school for your health issues? I' m asking because in many states in the US, you might qualify for some job training or help thru the high school programs for special needs kids. Have you ever received Disability or SSI or some sort of help from the state? Each state is different... -

ARCHIVED How Many Parents And Kids Have Celiac?
kareng replied to shezatrip's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My teen boys are negative with no symptoms. They have regular bread and crackers. When we all eat together, it might be gluten-free or gluten-free but the bun.b. But a lot of stuff is gluten-free. BBQ chicken, oven fries, green beans & carrots...gluten-free now and before diagnoses. If we go to PF Changs we all order from the gluten-free menu so... -
