ARCHIVED News: Celiac.com: Gluten-Free? These 19 Foods May Have a Similar Effect as Gluten
kareng replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Bunch of nonsense - "cross-reactive" foods for Celiac. Open Original Shared Link "As for the alleged possibility that many gluten-free foods or drinks (such as coffee, milk, orange juice, etc.) would trigger symptoms in celiac individuals due to hidden antigens mimicking gluten or cross-reacting with anti-gluten antibodies, it must be clearly... -
ARCHIVED Brianna's Salad Dressing Gf?
kareng replied to Anya78's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have a problem with rice - that wouldn't be a gluten issue. I love their dressings and do well with them. Looking at the ingredients - it looks like they use apple cider vinegar. -
ARCHIVED Soaps?! Dish soaps, bar soaps and hand soaps
kareng replied to Jherm21's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Dawn. For other soap, just look that it doesn't have wheat germ oil in it. Maybe stay away from oat, too. -
ARCHIVED anxiety, celiac, problems, doctors, i'm lost
kareng replied to Jm34's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry. I am not up on all of your history. But this part stood out to me " i ate some corn flakes ". Do you have Celiac? And were those gluten-free cornflakes? Because, in the US at least, regular ones usually have malt barley. -
I don't know . I think it would be important to know why those numbers are low. Might make a difference if they are just a little low or very low. What did the doctor suggest you do next?

I broke this out into its own topic as it would be lost over on a 5 year old thread about doctors. That is why it has the odd quoted part that isn't on this thread.

ARCHIVED Purbread NOT gluten free
kareng posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This company sells primarily in Pennsylvania but does mail order. This company does not label "gluten free" but "gluten neutralized". In their faq sheet and advertising they claim it is safe for "Severe Celiacs". So far, I have not seen any info as to how they know it is safe. I see no actual testing to prove it. Gluten Free Watchdog... -

ARCHIVED Biopsy and Colonocopy Results
kareng replied to Ennis-TX's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The logistics on a complete GI tract transplant would be crazy! When my kids were in High School, they did FIRST Robotics. We used to joke that instead of throwing balls and lifting things, they should make robotic GI systems! But, if you can get some of these other issues under control, it might allow you to expand the range of food that... -

ARCHIVED GliadinX Breaks Down Gluten in the Gut
kareng replied to Scott Adams's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is actually an advertisement. In the US, supplements, like this, do not have to go through any federal approval process. They do not actually have to "prove" that they work. "Real" drugs must prove they are safe and that they do what they claim. Currently, there are medications going through clinical trials - working their way to being approved... -
ARCHIVED Probiotic and enzymes giving false negative on blood test?
kareng replied to Noel James's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
The only way to diagnoses DH is With a skin biopsy. Sometimes people with DH do not test positive on blood tests. Open Original Shared Link "...and only about 40% of them have the positive blood tests (serology) for celiac disease...." Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Advice on celiac testing?
kareng replied to alyssa-w94's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get the feeling this GI doesn't think you have Celiac and wants to " prove it" to you? If he really thought you had Celiac, you would need a much longer gluten challenge. I think I would say " I eat strictly gluten-free, if I have Celiac, that would not be the current problem. Find out what is really the problem" If you decide to keep this doctor... -
Very few naturally occuring things can actually be absorbed thru the skin. Gluten cannot be absorbed thru the skin. Lotion seems like it gets absorbed, but it is really just evaporating and going into the dead skin layers. http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/will-my-skin-breakout-if-i-use-topical-products-like-shampooslotions-that-have-gluten-in...

Tocopheryl is rarely made from wheat. Even if it is, it's highly refined and I see not considered a gluten problem. I have had no problems with chopstick. Also, gluten on the skin should not give a Celiac reactions. gluten must be consumed . It is possible to have an allergic reaction to an ingredient in lotion.

ARCHIVED Better Batter and Suggestions on store bought bread
kareng replied to Rob S.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What? Are you trying to day that's if I buy their products, Whole Foods or Target gives them info about me? Otherwise, I don't see how they would know who buys the bread. If you ordered it directly from them, I guess they would need some info to get it to your house and get it paid for? -
IN the US and Canada and many other countries, wheat can't hide in products. It must be disclosed as an ingredient and usually has an additional warning. It will get easier as you go along. You will need to read labels
