ARCHIVED gluten free, oat free, egg free breakfast ideas needed for 6 year old
kareng replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would be careful with Cheerios and Lucky Charms if the child has Celiac. GM doesn't have a very good record of actually testing to see if the mechanical sorting eliminated the wheat/ gluten. Perhaps they will be more consitant in the future as I believe I have heard that the FDA was investigating. -

ARCHIVED gluten free, oat free, egg free breakfast ideas needed for 6 year old
kareng replied to CeliacMommaX2's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Why not leftovers from dinner? Grilled cheese? I like to take cold cuts and lay them on a plate, then sprinkle with some cheese, microwave to melt, roll up and eat. Or some plain chicken on a corn tortilla with cheese, red pepper ( or tomato if she likes) microwave and fold up. PB on crackers. but , lots of people eat the same breakfast every single... -

Just a heads up - some bars will tell you that Redd's Apple is a cider and therefore gluten-free. IT IS NOT! Is just Apple flavoring in beer. -
Rice vinegar is nice, too! It gives a nice little "bite" without being as harsh as other vinegars. I splash a little in my stir fry with the soy sauce and whatever other things I want ( ginger, garlic, PB, toasted seasame oil, pineapple juice, etc)

ARCHIVED Gigi's cupcakes - avoid their gluten free cupcakes!
kareng replied to Gardenmamarama's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The one time I went to Gigi's, they told me they were not for people with Celiac. The gluten free labelling law doesn't really apply to bakeries and restaurants. I believe the government statement, that went with the law, urged places like this to use the same standards, but they have no jurisdiction over them. I think its a shame to have... -

The way I understand it, if your job is staying overnight and you no longer can perform that duty without "reasonable" accommodations, they can fire you. You could certainly ask for a transfer to an available job. You could get a doc to say what accommodations you need. Perhaps the ability to bring a cooler and stay at hotels with microwaves would... -
Coffee from a bag and brewed at home never goes anywhere near the donuts. Its just made at a coffee "factory". Just to clarify - the original discussion from 2011 was about buying coffee made/brewed in an actual Dunkin Donuts shop. So, getting donut crumbs/gluten in the coffee seems ... at least a possibility. I am not sure of DD's coffee procedures...

I want to add that last fall, I heard one of the doctors developing one of the drugs speak. He said that it would first be used to help the small percentage of Celiacs (Refractory) that cannot heal with a regular diet. I can't remember if it is 1%, 2% of diagnosed Celiacs? That is a pretty small number. I am too busy living y life to go look that up! ...

I have no desire to argue with you. This from my personal experience. I work in a gluten free bakery. I see many people diagnosed with Celiac disease who are living life successfully. I went to one of the International Celiac Disease Symposium few years back and met many people with Celiac and who treat people with Celiac. I will tell you that...

I am not saying anything about "forgetting" people. I think that if you just read here, you would think all Celiacs are a mess! lol That thought was what I was responding to. Perhaps an example will explain what I mean - I worked in a hospital with a neonatal intensive care doctor. She only saw the sickest babies. And, frankly, most did not live. And...

First, I agree. I get very frustrated with people who complain that they are gluten-free and some fast food place or the neighborhood BBQ glutened them. It drives me nuts when they say that something gluten-free "glutened" them but forget to mention that their kids all have a stomach virus or they ate a soup, appetizer, meal and dessert ( I would be bloated...

If you feel like you can handle class - go. there is nothing that says you can't. Now if you have uncontrollable diarrhea - exercise might not work.

ARCHIVED Gluten Symptom not improving
kareng replied to icdk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am still not certain if you have an actual Celiac diagnosis, and it sounds as if you aren't either. But, lets assume you do. It can take months, maybe years, for everything to resolve. Some of it is because of vitamin deficiencies caused by Celiac. Perhaps you should consider seeing a psychiatrist and getting a low dose of anti- depressant. Something... -
ARCHIVED Gluten free apparently not helping entirely
kareng replied to jeanzdyn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think you should consider that this job might be part of the issue. If I only sleep 4 hours a night I would be tired. Trying to eat at restauruant all the time messes up my system just because it's usually not what I eat at home . It's usually saltier, more fat, etc. Hot flashes could be part of a normal hormone fluctuation. It can start in your thirties...- 16 replies

Starbucks warning
kareng replied to SherriN's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think you can really blame Starbucks. You could have looked the ingredients or asked to see the ingredients, first. That is why they have the ingredient list on Starbucks.com. I think it was nice of them to send you a gift card. I guess where Starbucks is at fault is that the employees are supposed to tell you to check the ingredients or website... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Symptom not improving
kareng replied to icdk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is a real disease. You can't decide you have Celiac. Just like you can't diagnose yourself with diabetes because eating less sugar makes you feel better. There are many reasons a person's " stomach" would feel better not eating gluten. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Symptom not improving
kareng replied to icdk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Do you have Celiac disease? because all those things could be part of Celiac but they could be other things, too. You would want to get a doctor to see what is actually wrong with you. To be tested for Celiac, you should be eating gluten. if you have been tested for Celiac and you have Celiac, it will take longer than a week to heal. -

ARCHIVED "Clearly Celiac" Question....
kareng replied to MrsChoplin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you feel comfortable being diagnosed as Celiac with positive blood results only, great. You seem to have Celiac. Is the rash DH? Without a skin biopsy, you can't be certain. Even if it goes away gluten-free, it may not be DH. I think the GI/endo is up to you at this point. If you will behave as if you have Celiac for the rest of your life... -
New to Forum - Hard Time Coping with Gluten Intolerance
kareng replied to lyndsay.d's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wish your boyfriend hadn't diagnosed you. If he really was studying Celiac, he would know that isn't the way to be diagnosed. He would also understand the value of an official diagnosis for any autoimmune disorder. If you have been gluten-free for 8 months, perhaps some of these issues are not from gluten? Perhaps you have some other issue... -

ARCHIVED Is an Endoscopy necessary?
kareng replied to Bucksbeloved's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Stool test are not considered valid for diagnosing Celiac disease. I am surprised the doctors schedules an endoscopy based on that.
