  1. #1 type of safe shampoo - I use Suave shampoo and conditioner #2 have crest toothpaste, appears OK, hoping it is gluten free - I use Colgate Total but Crest should be fine #3 hand soap for the house and bathrooms - I like Soft Soap at my sinks and in the shower #5 recommendations for a line of makeup/lipstick for my wife, she is not too particular...
  2. Possibly quinoa flakes? I haven't made gluten-free granola so can't say this would work well.
  3. Thanks for posting...I am positively drooling!!!

ARCHIVED What To Expect From The Doc

Generally doctors don't give us much info beyond telling us that we should start a gluten-free diet. But you've come to the right place! You might want to search through the forum to see if you can find the info you need. And ask whatever questions you may have. And welcome!
  5. Here's a list to check out: Open Original Shared Link
  6. I think it would be dependent on the recipe. And if your gluten-free flour doesn't have xanthan gum in it, it would have to be added (or a binder of some sort). It might be easier to look for new recipes. Or post your recipe and maybe someone can help you in converting it.
  7. Here in the U.S. if the chocolate powder contained gluten, it would have to be declared. That said, there are an awful lot of chemicals in the ingredients for that cappuccino Punkin mentioned.
  8. We all have our food cravings (pizza is my weakness, too). Is there anyway you could make your home gluten-free and let your hubby have all the gluten he wants when he's out of the house? I agree with CaptainCrab...you need to learn to make your own gluten-free pizza. It'll be so much better than anything you can buy and you can choose your favorite toppings...
  9. Please be aware that you are responding to a very old thread and a lot of the original posters are probably not even active on the forum any more. Any restaurant list from 2005 is undoubtedly very outdated by now.
  10. I've never tried to make sourdough bread. But the gluten-free sourdough starter recipes I saw do call for yeast.
  11. No, although I think it would be nice to take if going out to dinner and be worried about CC. Otherwise there's no way I would ever think of eating gluten again.
  12. I'd say give a gluten-free diet a strict 3-month trial and see how you feel. If there's anything else wrong with you, going gluten-free will not prevent your doctors from testing for other things. (Doctors can be pretty clueless). That said, I wouldn't be surprised if you've already found your answer. We do tend to worry not knowing especially if we feel...
  13. Sorry you are feeling so poorly! I'd be inclined to make a big pot of chicken and rice soup. No recipe...I just wing it since I've been cooking forever.
  14. I don't have the slightest inclination to make myself deathly ill by eating something for which I know I'll pay a severe price.
  15. For adults I've read that a gluten challenge should be approx. 3 months eating the equivalent of 3 to 4 slices of bread a day. I don't know how that would translate for children. It sounds like you're in quite a predicament since you are getting sick from CC. Is it possible to make him eat at the table and then make sure he washes his hands and face...
  16. It sounds like your body has given you the answer that doctors were unable to. If you've been gluten-free, it's entirely possible that you would come up with a negative celiac panel. False negatives are fairly common. If I were you, I'd go gluten-free and stay that way as you don't need a doctor's permission as to what to eat. Considering your severe...
  17. You can make gluten-free sourdough starters. I just pulled up Open Original Shared Link and did a search. A few recipes came up. You could also google it and I bet you'd find a lot of recipes.
  18. I'd say they're both celiac and you're a smart Mom to question the doctor's diagnosis. I never understood the "borderline" either but then I think a lot of doctors are clueless but that's a whole other topic. Are you making your whole house gluten-free? It would certainly make it a lot easier to not worry about cross-contamination. And welcome to the...
  19. Welcome, JAS! I don't know if there is a support group in Frederick but I have heard there is one in Gettysburg, PA, which isn't far from you (don't know how active they are). You might want to call MOM's in Frederick (they're on Buckeystown Pike). I know my doctor's wife shops there and they would probably be knowledgeable as to support groups in the...
  20. Yes, I know. Some people have problems with oats, even if the oats are gluten-free and therefore cannot use Bob's Red Mill gluten-free products.
  21. Welcome to the forum! How long has your daughter been diagnosed? Many times our bodies are pretty wonky until we get a good grasp of the gluten-free diet and she may also be developing other food sensitivities (lactose intolerance is very common for a lot of us). Some people have reportedly reacted to Bob's Red Mill products even though they test....
  22. The Ancient Harvest brand of quinoa is already washed and needs no prerinsing. I don't know how the price compares to other quinoa but I have found Ancient Harvest at Wal-Mart.
  23. Another thought...I use a spring-loaded ice cream scoop to measure the batter (needs to be shaped and flattened a bit) and a muffin-top pan. I think I could also make them on a cookie sheet, which I'd line with parchment paper. Those hamburger bun pans are ridiculously expensive and making your own from aluminum foil sounds like a lot of work. Also...
  24. Since you're doing so well, personally I'd wait unless you have lots of money or feel a compelling need to have a colonoscopy. Just because a doctor suggests something, doesn't mean you have to go along with it especially since your insurance won't cover it. It takes time to get well and it sounds like you are doing great.
