The only gluten-free pretzels I have on hand right now are Glutino Sesame Pretzel Rings (totally addictive!) and just checking the bag, they don't contain MSG but they do contain soy. I know they also make plain pretzels and pretzel sticks. I don't have any Snyder's of Hanover gluten-free pretzels on hand but you could pull up their website. I find them...

Have you tried Udi's or Rudi's gluten-free breads? A lot of people like those brands. Be careful with Rudi's though as they also make non gluten-free breads, too. I prefer to bake my own bread and experiment with different recipes. I think of it as a challenge...and it is.

ARCHIVED Blood Tests?
sa1937 replied to kathleenp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, a GP can order the blood tests...just make sure the complete panel is ordered. The info at the U of Chicago Celiac Disease Center is really helpful. Open Original Shared Link I haven't been on their website for awhile and I see they have a new downloadable e-book available. -
ARCHIVED What's Really Edible At Fast Food Places?

There have been some concerns lately about California Pizza Kitchen and CC. I don't have one in my area. You might like to read Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Awesome Bread Machine!
sa1937 replied to MrsNewman's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Did she send you a special introductory offer to try her flour with a couple of free e-books? If not, I'm sure you'll get one. For the hamburger buns, I simply cut the recipe in half the first time I tried it and got 6 buns from it. I actually used a regular size spring-loaded ice cream scoop and a muffin top pan although I'm sure you could use a baking... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Candy List Posted On Line Of Safe Candy?
sa1937 replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Candy lists are usually outdated as soon as they're published. I would suggest you google Gluten-Free Candy and you'll come up with a starting point to check out further. Many times these lists are updated near holidays so I suspect the next new list will be for Halloween candy. Here are a couple for you to check out (cautiously as ingredients may have... -

ARCHIVED Awesome Bread Machine!
sa1937 replied to MrsNewman's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Lilu, there are as many flour blends as there are cookbook authors. Recently I've been using Jules Shepard's Free For All Cooking book and her all-purpose flour, which is already mixed. It's the first time I bought an already mixed flour. I think her flour is probably the same as her Open Original Shared Link from her earlier cookbook. You can pull up... -
ARCHIVED Tested Twice In A Year With Different Results.. Any Idea What It Could Mean?
sa1937 replied to Stormy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's entirely possible that test results may have been negative in the past and positive now. Be sure to pick up a copy of the test results, which should also show reference ranges. Actually you need an endoscopy and biopsies, not a colonoscopy, for celiac disease. A colonoscopy may reveal other things but NOT celiac. If you do not plan to have an endoscopy... -

ARCHIVED I Don't Want My Husband To Go gluten-free But Will I Still Be Safe?
sa1937 replied to HS7474's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry to hear that in spite of your best efforts you had problems with CC. My son-in-law has also eaten gluten-free pizza because my daughter has celiac. Fortunately they live in Denver, which is a celiac's haven and they have a lot of options. I don't in small town, USA. He used to be the pizza king and made some awesome gluteny pizza! Can't now.... -
ARCHIVED Kellogg's Gluten Free Rice Krispies

Probably a lot of them are safe. Personally I buy Kraft and they're exceptionally good at labeling for all their products. -

ARCHIVED Awesome Bread Machine!
sa1937 replied to MrsNewman's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've only tried Bob's (the not-so-wonderful homemade bread mix as well as the raisin bread). I've heard good things about Gluten Free Pantry and also the Open Original Shared Link. I bought a pkg. of King Arthur but haven't tried it yet. Thus far I prefer to playing around with my own flours/starches and experimenting with making my own bread from scratch... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free In The Inland Empire, Southern California
sa1937 replied to trustyourguts's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yes, I eat pretty simply, too. It is a whole lot cheaper and so many things I've eaten my whole life are naturally gluten-free or can be made that way with simple substitutions. Plus I'm lazy. I bought Jules Shepard's book, Free For All Cooking, and she has substitutions for just about everything for gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, egg-free, nut... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Stop Being So Generous?
sa1937 replied to Jenniferxgfx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Heck, I'd hide the gluten-free goodies and not feel guilty!!! Of course, first I'd try to get the whole house switched to gluten-free foods just to do everything possible to eliminate CC. If anyone wanted gluten, they could have all they want when they went out. But then I'm old and crabby. -
ARCHIVED Awesome Bread Machine!
sa1937 replied to MrsNewman's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Gluten-free bread has always been a challenge for a lot of us. I'm still experimenting to make a *perfect* loaf. There have been some recent threads regarding bread machines. Near the upper right corner there is a google button...type in bread machines and I'll bet several will come up. -
ARCHIVED What Would You Do?
sa1937 replied to lilu's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
NOT a dumb question!!! Does he plan to go for an endoscopy/biopsy? If not, personally I'd go on a strict gluten-free diet. By that I mean shop the outer rim of the store and stick with whole foods (fresh fruit, veggies, meats, etc.) It's a lot easier and much better than trying to replace gluteny foods with their gluten-free counterparts. You may just... -

sa1937 replied to Jenniferxgfx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Assuming you have time, why don't you just start baking your own cookies and other treats and then you won't mind sharing? It's not only a whole lot cheaper but homemade tastes better than any store-bought gluten-free cookies I've ever tasted. -

ARCHIVED Hello From Dallas, Texas!
sa1937 replied to TamRae's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Welcome, TamRay! You'll find everything gets easier after awhile. While the diet seems daunting at first, it doesn't take long to major in Label Reading 101 and navigate our way through the grocery store. It's a lot easier right away to concentrate on a whole foods diet (fresh fruits, veggies, meats, etc.) And read, read, read. There's a wealth of... -
