  1. Be careful at BBqu's. Make sure that the bbq sauce is gluten free. I always take my own spatula for flipping the burger (that is cooked on time foil) as the common flipper may be contaminated. I always stand at the grill and watch mine like a hawk!!
  2. Congratulations!!! So glad to hear you feel so much better. I am 29 months and I understand! I too am off of two of my three antidepressants (still workings on the last one, slowly cutting back), more good than bad days, no more mouth sores, rapid heart beats...... Life is good!!
  3. We also use Rice Chex for snack/treats and feed grain free Natrual Balance. Also, watch their chew toys. A lot of the chew bones have wehat startch in them. There are some gluten-free brands out there but you have to look hard. We also don't buy any treats made in China.
  4. This is a hot topic and what it comes down to is that you have to do what is right for you. Read what everyone has to say and then decide. I, personally, will not eat anything (except for a frosty at Wendy's)at a fast food place, even if they have separate fryers, as I feel there is too great of opportunity for cross contamination. I wait and have my...
  5. This sounds so like me. Diagnosed & went gluten-free March 2010, lost a lot of weight but then gained, gained. I have leveled off b ut can't loose any. I don't eat gluten-free snacks, couple of times a month maybe. Mostly veggies, chicken and such. Am I doomed to keep this ring around the belly???
  6. Excellent suggestion! Easier than a daily food diary I haven' had a problem with breads until recently. Las couiple of months I have noticed that if I have bread for lunch (or gluten-free pizza etc) a coiple of hours later I have a major blood sugar crash...shaky, clammy. Like an overload of carbs or something. Funny how our guts change as we heal...
  7. I have seen so many posts lately dealing with severe chronic constipaion. I have suffered from it all my life and thought I was the only one who went gluten-free only to find the constipation became worse! I too have tried everything..tones of water, fresh fruit, veggies, nuts, beans, oils, etc, etc. Nothing worked. It got so bad that at one point 3 ducolax...
  8. You may wsnt tocheck out taking liquid aloe. I take 4 oz 2x's per day and altho I am still taking prilosec I have been albe to cut down from two a day to only 1/2. I just buy the gallon jug of pure liquid (not gel) aloe at Walmart.
  9. Thank you!
  10. Thanks...... She has four stepkids so more babies at her age aren't in the plan. lol I am going to just lay low for a bit. Her husband who is 41 has CHD and had a stroke so she has a lot on her hands. Me pushing right now on the celiac issue probably won't help. I threw it out there to her and and will do the "quiet mom" thing for a couple of months...
  11. Forgot to add that my daughter is 38, has severe endomerosis, difficuly getting pregnant..... just like me. Poor kid!!
  12. Thanks for all the replies. I was afraid that it might be the start of Celiac symptoms when she told me. I mentioned it to her but she assured me that it was just stress. Some years back I had the dreadful itchy bumps on my elbows for several months but then they disappeared one day long before I went gluten-free. Seems like maybe DH has a mind of...
  13. Can DH break on on the palm of your hand? Reason for the question - My mother was, we believe, undiagnosed celiac and had what we now believe was DH on her elbows and knees. She also had several other auto diseases. I am celiac. My daughter recently broke out with very itchy blisters on the palm of her hands that pop and then peel. She said that as...

    ARCHIVED Olive Garden

I recently ate at Olive Garden while visiting family, it was a place we could all eat at. I had salad and pasta. It was ok, not great but at least I could eat something along with everyone else which was the main reason for going. The server was good about bringing the salad out with croutons and dressing in a separate bowl, he went over my special "alergy...
  15. There are several postings that deal with the fast food issue and you can find several that debate the McDonalds issue so I won't reopen it here. That being said, personally, the only place I would even consider would be a frosty at Wendy's. Even with a lettuce wrap there is just too much chance of cross contamination. But everyone is different. Far better...
  16. I really have to go with the asking for an extra plate. Most places just figure you are sharing with your dinner partner. When the plate comes I slip whatever it is out of my purse, slip it on the plate and it's a done deal. Once the food is mashed around your plate no one really notices anyway.
  17. Along with the "I'm gluten free" I also add "I am celiac (or have a wheat allergy). I don't eat this way because it is a fad diet......" I add that as I feel like the current gluten free fad has hurt celiacs in many ways and I want the restaurants to take me seriously !!!
  18. Going gluten free is not a "quick fix". Some people feel great right away, others don't. It can take 6mo to 2 years to heal and symptoms don't all go away as quickly as you might want. Some can go away and new symptoms take their place. At 2+ years I am still tired in spite of b12 injections and iron. It just takes time.
  19. We go through a tax person and for the past two years have taken the tax deduction but I have documented everything and kept the reciepts. Also, you can only deduct the difference for a food item as others have stated (actual bread less the gluten-free bread). I have done it in the past as my overall medical expenses have been so high, my health insurance...
  20. We have a dear friend who is dying from Myasthenia gravis and we are quite sure that she also has celiac. She is always sick after eating her fav turkey sandwich or breakfast muffins, not to mention all of her other sysmptoms. My SIL went to visit her armed with info I had printed out but the dr refused to even look at it or consider it. Our friend's comment...
  21. I got sick on it no long after going gluten-free but it turned out that I couln't digest corn in any large quantity. Since then i have had some....a handful....and was fine.
  22. I read (sorry i don't remember where) that Chuck e Cheese is coming out with a gluten-free pizza that will arrive at their restaurant sealed, to be cooked sealed and delivered to the table sealed with a sealed cutter. Not that this pizza is any tastier but IF this is true it could be an option for a lot of kids/parties etc.
  23. We travel a lot and I use the "Find Me Gluten Free" app on my phone also. A great help!
  24. I understand. I hate being the center of attention too! If totaly totaly stuck I order a glass of wine... That's a tough spot to find yourself in.
