  1. Hi, I've been really really strict about my gluten-free diet, and lifestyle for @14 months now. I eat a paleolitic diet, meat and veggies, nothing processed or packaged, no grains at all. I have my own kitchen, i never eat out, i make all my own meals. this is after over 2 years of going 'wheat-free', but being clueless about CC, and trace gluten. I got...
  2. I have severe DH on my scalp, and i use cocunut oil, it seems to make it feel a little better.
  3. green beans, carrots, a turnip, all steamed. some ground beef. sometimes, even a salad, w/ avacado. sweet potato, squash. I only eat meat, and vegetables, and a little fruit, so...
  4. I geuss I'm lucky that i was a chef in fine dining resturants, really since i was a teenager, so i've been around so much fancy foods, that i'm kinda numb to it, and don't seem to care about what i'm missing out on as much as most ppl, In any case, it does take getting used to, but i promise, if you stick to it, after a while, you will start feeling spoiled...
  5. Hi, everyone. I haven't been around here at all lately, and i will explain why. even though everyone on the Forums here have helped me so immensely, i can't even express my gratitude enough, I really needed a break. It was like it was becoming literally a matter of survival for me over the last 6 months, learning how to cope with what i learned is full...
  6. that's so unfortunate. it sucks when you want to trust ppl, but learn that you can't. it's just part of the learning curve of coping with celiac. it doesn't have to mean that you are an untrusting, suspicious person at heart if you choose to protect yourself. I got invited to join some friends for thanksgiving, but chose to eat at home alone instead...
  7. OMG i'm going to the store right now! thank you so much!
  8. theres a traditional "Turkey day" mountain bike ride where i live. it's a great way to stimulate a good appetite! It was nice riding with friends, and giving thanks! since i'm on a super strict meat, veggies, and (less, and less) fruit only diet, and no grains, and nothing processed, everyday is Thanksgiving for me minus the stuffing! Just think,...
  9. gluten intolerance/celiac seems to be a spectrum, like autism is; there are many different degrees of it. many ppl report their symptoms/sensativities get worse after going truly gluten-free for a while. definately the case w/ me, too. it's important to know WHY this happens, and you've gotten a lot of good info ITT. i think everyone is on the spectrum...
  10. thanks SOOOOO much. I'm @ 1 week w/ no fruit or sugar, and it does seem to be getting better. cut out the agave nectar in my tea, and my 2 bananas on an empty stomach in the AM. ( i do have an apple sliced up in a salad, but it's not too high in fructose?) kinda sucks because bananas are my one convience food that i can just go into a store and eat, and...
  11. welcome to the board! how long are you on the gluten-free diet now?
  12. When I was researching dermatitas herpetiformis, I recall seeing some statistic about how a small percentage of people with DH get no relief from a gluten free diet. Of course, I was horrified. then I thought that this percentage of ppl could be accounted for as the ppl who didn't completely adhere to the diet, or that thier food was slightly tainted w gluten...
  13. This is the first I've heard of sugar making dh worse. I'm willing to try anything, so hopefully this helps thanks, although I love bananas. Also, I only use gluten free soap for body care that I order in the mail.
  14. I had a baking job for four years, over 15 years ago. I worked alone from 2AM-7AM. I was always super depressed, anxious my whole life, but those 4 years were some of the worst for me. I had long crying spells all the time. I was so glad i could work alone, because i would not have been able to function otherwise. I had major crying spells (usually over...
  15. Hi! DH is always symetrical on your body, ie. you would have it on both hands. DH appears in clusters of blisters. of course, i'm not sure whats going on from a picture. Also, DH isn't just itchy, its INSANELY itchy and painful to the point of being torture. If it is DH , you would know exactly what i'm talking about in terms of the burning pain, and...
  16. I'm really sensative to trace amounts of gluten as well; after getting serious about removing any expososure I may be getting to t best of my ability for @8 months, I'm finally doing better. I didn't eat wheat or bread for @3 years previously with scant results. Now I'm worried about my vitamins and supplements containing trace gluten despite it them saying...
  17. I randomly met a nutritionist yesterday who mentioned to me that a lot of vitamins and supplements actually have trace amounts of gluten, even though it might say 'no gluten' on the label. She claimed Thorne products are truly free of gluten, and the company was commited to keeping gluten sensative people safe from it. Does anyone use them, or is anyone...
  18. I've been eating paleo @ 8 months now, with great results. no dairy, nightshades, quinoa, very little nuts. i've gotten where i'm really happy, and comfortable with it. like wheatchef, when i go to the grocery store, i don't miss any of the packaged stuff at all. thanks for the tip about Marks' daily apple, i'll check it out!
  19. Hi. So sorry to hear you are going through all of this; you really need to be safe, your symptoms sound a lot like mine. I get that blurry vision, and droopy eyelid thing too. Dr Peter Greenes' book "Celiac Disease, the hidden epidemic" has a part about cross contamination and how the gluten free diet is a legitimate medical treatment he's from Columbia...
  20. I'm so sorry to hear about that. OMG. I know how helpless you feel when that happens in public. Something similar happens to me, I get all shaky, and can't control my arms , it's really scary. I've been glutened and literally doubled over in pain everywhere, and unable to keep my balance, or really walk right. It used to happen to me in the past, at times...
  21. I geuss I do wash my hands a lot, maybe you are onto something? All kidding aside, CC is very very very very very real I know it sucks, but you have to learn to manuveur around this if you want to get better, it's an ugly fact, I know, and I hate to have to be saying it, but I can give you many reasons: personal experience;I was a slow learner about...
  22. What about the cigarette papers? I've been wondering about that.
  23. Thanks for all your input, I'm really fine with obsessing about living gluten free, abd researching celiac, and celiac related things. It's just kind of wierd when you think about it all he time, like when you first wake up in he morning everyday, you begin to wonder I just hope I'll get more used to it like burdee was suggesting. It just seems like there...
  24. I'm just wondering if anyone else here feels like they are totally obsessing about celiac. in a way, I think it's a good thing, because you need to always be on your toes, and be on guard all the time. I spent a lot of time being careless about gluten, so i know how bad this can be. dealing with celiac disease is like walking a tightrope or something, you...
  25. this is simply not true. the WORST glutenings ive had have been from airborne gluten from bread being sliced, not from flour in the air. it was a huge amount of bread, at a party on a catering job, and it came on like a frieght train. my nose starting running in like 10 seconds, I lost my balance, and got so dizzy that i could barely walk. i had to hold...
