ARCHIVED Celiac Literally Shifted My Entire Life
rdunbar replied to jensey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I'm in the same boat, I feel like celiac has turned my whole life upside down, and nobody really gets it. i've given up trying to explain it to my family, I really wonder if anybody can realize how big an impact this can have on your life without going through it yourself. I've gotten really mad and worked up about it many times,so I can understand... -
I have DH on my scalp only, so can't compare it to having it elsewhere, but it's extremely painful, and itchy; still, it was even itchier before I was gluten free. I can't really describe with words how bad it's been. It's been getting better on the whole, but it still flares up sometimes, and I'm doing everything I can do now to avoid gluten and casien like...

ARCHIVED Dictating What Others Can Eat Around Me?
rdunbar replied to Cypressmyst's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've gotten to where I just refuse to be around it. It makes me feel anxious, and Ive been glutened by CC by just being at the home of gluten eaters, one time I could barely walk home ( 2 blocks) I got so dizzy, and couldn't see straight. It was pretty scary. Same thing as you, I can't pin point how I got glutened, but my friend is drinking beer, and has... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Type Of Dr That Specializes In Autoimmune Diseases?
rdunbar replied to SaraKat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, Dermatitas Herpetiformis is often misdiagnosed by derms and doctors both. it's the skin version of celiac disease; look into it, there's also a forum for it on the board. Behind the knee and elbow are common places for it to be. It's tremendously itchy, and painful and forms in clusters of blisters. -
I just discovered the HBO program the Sopranos, I had a lot of extra time, laying around and feeliing like crap, so watched all 6 seasons. Is this the poster family for celiac, or what? Tonys' depression, and panic attacks Adrianas' IBS Uncle Juniors dementia, and memory loss Vidos' obesity and bad hip it seem like every character has at least one symptom...

Hi I totally understand the frustration, am going through the same thing. Apparantly DH can take up to 2 years being strictly gluten-free, CC free to really go away. At least it sounds like its getting better. I have it on my scalp, too; I have a lot fewer blisters than I used to, but there are some stubborn spots still. arggg! In Dr. Peter Greenes...

I was very late to first talk as a child; my Mom told me that when I started talking, I spoke in complete sentances. Closer to autism than dyslexia, really. I will misread or mispeak words; also, I will choose strange words, or have wierd speech patterns; this can be indictative of ataxia. I know I have posted some rants here that were mostly incoherent...

I don't eat any "gluten free" products, just veggies, fruit, and meat, really, if it wasnt picked, dug up out of the ground, or butchered, I don't eat it. Its been over 6 months, and I'm really enjoying it, and I'm feeling much better; I've had these symptoms as well, tingling, achy joints, brain fog, anxiety and depression, blurry vision, loss of balance...

ARCHIVED For The Love Of God Can Someone Please Help Me?
rdunbar replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can totally understand, having been through massive depression in the past. Before I went gluten-free I would cry myself to sleep every night ,month after month, now when I look back on it, I'm not even that sure what I was so torn up about; just a general feeling of hopelessness. In any case, it really was scary, and totally debilitating. I often would... -

ARCHIVED Official Diagnosis? Family Considerations
rdunbar replied to rdunbar's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, he sure didn't seem to doubt it. What he said is that if your feeling better on the diet, and it's working, stick with it. only you know how you feel. I really appreciated hearing this comng from a doctor, after hearing about do many horror stories. I asked him about skin biopsies, and he seemed to think it would be unnessessary It not only feels... -
ARCHIVED Official Diagnosis? Family Considerations
rdunbar posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
so I finally went to see a doctor, to get my vitamin levels checked and thyroid, ect... after not seeing one for quite a while. I had tried accupuncture/chinese medicine, homeopathy,a dermotologist, and had gotten no results for my many symptoms, including the torturous rash on my scalp, which now I know is dermatitas herpetiformis. Firmly, and happily... -
ARCHIVED Just Patting Myself On The Back
rdunbar replied to ChristineSelhi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
those moments of doubt are perfectly understandable, but time, and the healing process (hopefully) clears all this up. I know I went through a period of maybe not doubt, but denial or stubborness, where i was careless about being exposed to gluten, coupled with just not having the information I needed in order to protect myself from it. well, then I discovered... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Neuro Effects Research
rdunbar replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I recently went to the dermatologists office that I had gone to @5 years ago with what turned out to be Dermatitas herpetiformis; she had given me some bogus diagnosis at the time. Anyways, I wasn't sure of the date, and wanted to see if they had a record of my visit, well, maybe I wanted to give her a piece of my mind, to be honest. As it turned out, the... -
Sorry to hear you've gotten sucked into a gluten vortex involving your family, but at least maybe it's an oppurtunity to realize how very bad it really is. One thing that really helped me was reading the book "the Gluten Effect" by drs Petersen , you can get it from Amazon. When you understand the science behind how gluten is doing all this stuff to you,...

Hi, I understand your frustration, I got super stubborn about dairy, not so much cheese, but cream for my tea and occasionally I would break down and have ice cream when I got really depressed, even knowing that I would feel horrible, and my that dermatitas herpetiformis would flare up; I was essentially consciously inflicting pain on myself . What was...

ARCHIVED Brain Fog And Seeming Dementia....
rdunbar replied to aderifield's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ditto here with the brain fog. I've always felt like I was borderline autistic my whole life. just something not right with me, being contantly on edge and anxious, I can't think of a period In my life when I wasn't having anxiety fueled melt downs. @4 years ago, before I found out the half truth that I had a wheat 'allergy',( actually celiac and dermatitas... -
Hi, for insomnia, i understand vitamin D3, calcium and magnesium supplementation is supposed to help, besides most people w/ celiac tend to be deficient in these anyway, so you probably can't go wrong. also, making sure your bedroom is totally, and i mean totally dark really helps.

ARCHIVED Depressed Over Celiac, Need Help!
rdunbar replied to Noni's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi! Sorry to hear you're struggling so much, and i can totally relate and understand. I've got dermatitas herpetiformis too, on my scalp, and have gone through alarming weight loss as well. I went gluten-lite for @ 3years, and if anything the DH got worse as well as other 'symptoms', including horrible anxiety and depression. finding this board, and getting... -
Anyone Been Glutened By Earl Grey Tea?
rdunbar replied to bridgetm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it could very well be the tea. I love tea, but I avoid earl grey, because it's basically leftover tea scraps with bergomot flavoring, it's not the whole tea leaves. The tea that goes in there can be from many different sources ( like a port wine?), so therefore there are more risks for contamination. Also, I decided to quit going to the coffee shop... -
Hi. When I went to visit my family, I too was feelng intimidated about how I was going to handle it. However, it went really well with managing to avoid CC; I brought my own cutting board and knives, my own little cooler and containers to take food with me wherever, and I just spread out newspaper on the counter to prep my food on, and made sure anything...

ARCHIVED Help! Symptoms Not Disappearing!
rdunbar replied to michayla's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, I just wanted to add that it's really important to remain patient with the healing process, I know, I've gotten totally frustated with not getting better endless times; and the feedback you get from your body as to how the healing is progressing can be really confusing, sometimes you feel better for a while, then you don't. I geuss there are so many... -
