  1. Well, I got glutened about 2 weeks ago, and i'm feeling better, but it really seems like the brain fog is as bad as ever. has anyone else had similar experiences with recovering from a glutening? I carelessly had a chai from the health food store, which i know they make on the stovetop from scratch in the kitchen (which also has a pizza oven in it), so i...
  2. My Grandfather died of colon cancer, my uncle presently is suffering from colon cancer and endless other health problems, weight problem, and diabetes. My dad passed away a little over 3 months ago of lung cancer ( he did'nt even smoke), so i've been a real mess. My grandmother passed away just over a year ago at 99, and she survived cancer twice, the first...
  3. why do dermatologists have such a hard time apparantly in diagnosing DH? it seems to me like it would be a slam dunk if the were familiar with it at all, which they should be. the derm i went to diagnosed it as serborhal dermatitis which i found out later means "we are not sure what it is, it is a random skin disease?" has anyone here ever been diagnosed...
  4. I had a really good experience when i went to PF changs, too. I was really antsy and nervous about eating out after 4 months of not eating out, but the staff made me feel more confident. there was nothing on the gluten free menu that i could even eat as such, but they made me chicken with bok choy and spinich with no salt (have to avoid iodine because...

    ARCHIVED Grief

Sometimes I too get SO frustrated with a multitude of things surrounding living this new way, and the uncertainty of the healing process, it's like the feedbackbacj process is really muddled, you' re not sure what's going on, but my gut instict is that this is a grief that can pass, it can pass, And there are griefs out there that don't pass, they are...
  6. I swear by virgin coconut oil, it's great on sweet potatoes or squash, or any veggies for hat matter I've heard legumes like lentils can be inflammatory in general, so you might feel better if you try going without them?

  8. I've suffered from huge anxiety, depression, and panic attacks, along with many other problems associated with celiac, and have been on a really stict elimination diet of only whole, unprocessed foods for @ 5 months, and the anxiety and depression has gotten much much better, but i can't say it's gone altogether. when i do have an episode, it's way less intense...
  9. I am wondering how long you have known you have specifically dermatitas herpetiformis (DH)?, and how long have you been on dapsone? I'm asking because DH is Celiac 100% of the time, so if you were somehow diagnosed w/ DH and not simultaneously w/ Celiac then someone really dropped the ball with your diagnosis. if they prescribed you dapsone and did'nt tell...
  10. I have DH on my scalp only. sometimes I get itchy on my chest, but no rash has ever appeared there.
  11. the reaction to poisin oak is caused by the allergen urushiol, which triggers an immune response which involves t-cells which attack the protiens in the skin that the urushiol binds with. Apparantly IgG antibodies can interfere with, or stop this immune response, or take away the t-cells receptivity to the urushiol. also, I noticed that the rash caused by...
  12. In the rare places in the world where people still eat the same diet that they have for literally thousands of years, like hunter-gatherers in borneo, they have no chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease, or depression. these only emerged once someone managed to convince everyone that grains are food,
  13. It is the most common plant here in California this came up the other week when I was playing golf with a friend and he got some poisin oak and reacted badly. Hard to feel too much sympathy when I feel like I've had something as bad or worse with the dermititas herpetiformis for many years with the insane itching, and didn't even know what it was, I'm...
  14. Was reading Dr Peter Greens' book Celiac Disease, the hidden Epidemic, and something he wrote really struck me; celac disease is the only autoimmune disease that has an environmental trigger; ie. Gluten needs to be introduced into your system in order for your immune system to (mistakenly?) attack your own tissue. Then I remembered that poisin oak also...
  15. yes, it is so frustrating I know. i got glutened last week, after doing so well after shifting into ultra-hardcore, "i'm only eating at home, meat, fruit, veggies, and nothing processed/packaged" mode, about 5-6 months ago. I had a chai that they make from scratch in the kitchen at the health food store which also has a pizza oven! to make it more frustrating...
  16. If you asked me yesterday, how long it would be before we see a gluten-free grocery store, I would have said, " 10, maybe 15 years". I've definatly fantasised about it; not feeling panicky looking at gluteny stuff when you are out shopping, not wondering if you are breathing air-borne gluten, if there is a bakery/kitchen within the store you are at? i am...
  17. If you can only stay off of gluten for enough time, I feel confident that someone would need a crowbar to get gluten between your lips . Really,It just takes time, gluten has opiate like effects, so it's addictive. I used to do the same thing, go eat Indian food when I knew I would feel sick, prob from cc or even MSG they add? Fortunately, feeling better is...
  18. Don't feel alone, i've been through much of what you have and lately a lot of symptoms are coming back which really was me wondering and feelng helpless. I'm gluten and casien free now for @ 5 months and was doing much better for a while, but achy hip coming back and bad mood swings, tingling in my right arm and shoulder, and worst of all the dermatitas...
  19. I was working as a caterer (for a big company) @ 7 months ago, and was unfortunatly ignorant of the risks of cross- contamination at the time, but thought I was fine as long as I could choose to only prepare item that didn't contain gluten, salads, meat ect... But several times I had the experience of inhaling glluten when someone was slicing bread for...
  20. I've always felt like my dermatitas herpetiformis flares up when I'm under stress, although I can't be totally sure. If you are sharing a kitchen with gluten-eaters, then It's very possible you could be getting cross contamination. even if you use a different scrubbie, and wear gloves, your plates, cutlery, and cookware could be picking up trace gluten...
  21. I recently got Dr. Peter Greens' book "celiac disease; the hidden epidemic", it's very informative, but was wondering why he recommends that people NOT self-diagnose for celiac disease. He says something about avoiding unnessisarily going on an inconvienent lifelong diet. With biopsies and blood tests being so inaccurate and unreliable, and doctors being...
  22. look up fibromyalgia; tingling, pain in tissue, muscles, often effects the body asymetrically, that is on one side or the other. curiously enough, when I googled it, many sites claimed that there is no known cause. LOL. gluten isn't a known cause??? when will the medical profession ever get it? and yes, calcium/magnesium, D3(5000iu), and sublingual B...
  23. just be patient and stick with it. I've had a little tingling in my right arm and shoulder the last few days, and this is after @ 4 months gluten-free; still it's not nearly as bad as it used to be, I was'nt able to ride my bike before. I figure i must have gotten some cross-contamination or something. I have Dermititas Herpetiformis on my scalp, and it...
  24. gluten actually reduces the blood flow to the brain, so it's like your engine isn't firing on all cylinders. brain fog, anxiety, 'depression', ect... all make sense when you consider this.
  25. I only developed GI symptoms around 2 years ago, and this is after suffering for over 10 years with dermititas herpetiformis; I even found some old family photos where i have a rash on my face as a teenager, (i'm 43 now) have pretty much suffered my whole life with mood disorders, massive anxiety and panic attacks which i now know are 100% gluten related...
