I use Lundberg. It comes with the flavor pack but you don't HAVE to use it and sometimes I don't. Their risotto mixes are made in a dedicated facility.

My first restaurant visit, I wasn't going to eat anything but it was our wedding anniversary (the first he has ever been home for! YAY!) so...I called the manager over and said I had food allergies..and he helped me figure out what was safe to eat! It was so great! I knew that everything was safe to eat. That positive experience has helped me want to...

ARCHIVED Catholic Communion Logistics - Need Advice!
K8ling replied to Emily928's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's what I do! Fr. Fred has a special little carrier for mine and he keeps it in his pocket. I always go to him for communion. It's like our own little system . The wine I tend to skip (I am a tiiiiny bit of a germaphobe) but I DO take it at Easter and Christmas. -
ARCHIVED How About Positive Family Support?
K8ling replied to conniebky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My dad made cheeseburgers with tapioca buns, my mom made potato salad, and my husband tried to make gluten-free cookies (with my mom's help of course, he admitted he's helpless w/a baking sheet). It was so sweet that they all checked ingredients and helped each other to make a gluten-free meal that I didn't have to cook myself. Even my toddler "helped" ... -
Please do take into account that a lot of what we say is in response to having been made sick. Not all of us have a perfect husband. I know MINE has said that it's been hard for him, and we are working through it but it is a process for ALL of us who are married. We won't "exact revenge" but we also might vent about it. Your husband went out and bought...

ok this may sound snarky because it is, a little bit. 1) If you aren't a fellow spouse you have no idea what we go through so don't tell me what I SHOULD be doing. Until YOU have a heart attack when a plain chevy pulls into your driveway on Christmas day because you think it's the grief squad, I don't want to hear it. 2) I was VENTING. And I only said...

HAHA No actually this IS one of the only issues we have (the other being ME being primary parent half the year and him respecting that). I just get fiery when I get sick AND pms-sy. The thing with him being gone so much is that we CAN'T have issues like that because the strain from a marriage split across the world is hard enough. We talk everything out...

ARCHIVED The Rest Of The Household...
K8ling replied to NorthernElf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Everyone in our house to gluten-free (at least IN the house). My husband eats what he wants at work but there is NO gluten allowed in this house. Part of that is because we have a toddler who CC's me like CRAZY (it gets on his hands, he feeds me a gluten-free snack, I get sick, etc). It is expensive but it's worth it to not be sick all the time. This... -
ARCHIVED Everyone Eats While I Watch: Your Honesty Needed, Please
K8ling replied to Lynayah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Don't go. You'll end up depressed and resentful, they'll feel bad and it will ruin an otherwise special night. I definitely agree with the "Father Daughter" thing. Hopefully they'll jump on board!! Good luck -
I had told him it had wheat in it, and I had put a HUGE x on the front. He thought that LICKING his finger (gross) was clean enough. He basically was not practicing good hand hygiene and because of that I want to die. He just got LAZY! He says things like "I am building your tolerance!" and then claims to be joking while my head is in a trashcan. I mean...

I can drink Corona and eat Garden of Eaten' cornchips. I also use corn tortillas in my enchiladas without issue. Is it possible that my sensitivity isn't that high?

ARCHIVED Purell Instant Sanitizer
K8ling replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I use it ALL THE TIME and have never had a problem with it... It may be my sensitivity is lower than some peoples though. -
SO I suddenly came down with the symptoms of being glutened today...which was odd because my husband and i did not eat out/go anywhere today. In tracing back my meals, I realized that right before becoming ill, he had gotten me a piece of bread. I wondered out loud how a piece of bread could make me sick (it was gluten free! I made it last night! The kitchen...

ARCHIVED How Sensitive To Gluten Are You?
K8ling replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Knock on wood, I am not SUPER sensitive, but I am sensitive enough that we went and got a new toaster and cutting board, and if something gluteny touches my food I will dump it and get fresh food. It's very different for me than other people (although I have had a slight upset stomach all week and i am 99% sure that my husband glutened by kissing...like... -
Think of it like this: you're on a plane, and there is a kid next to you flying alone. THe oxygen masks fall down. PUT YOURS ON FIRST because if you don't, you can't help the kid next to you. I use this as a parenting philosophy too. If you aren't healthy enough to enjoy your experience or even your life in general, you can't help anyone else. Do...

ARCHIVED Gluten Gluten Everywhere
K8ling replied to Indiana Joan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a friend who KNOWS she has food allergies like crazy, she is VERY overweight and constantly sick, and she's in an extremely stressful marriage. She was complaining to me one day about how hard it is to get the weight off and how she exercises allll the time (not really but I didn't say anything). I said "well what are you eating?" she said she was... -

ARCHIVED Help I Still Have Headaches
K8ling replied to miaryan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you tried physical therapy for your migraines? I have severe migraines and since going in for physical therapy I have seen a HUGE improvement. Mine are caused in part by stress, gluten, and severe muscle tightness. I have a hyper-laxity syndrome which makes things pop out of joint when they shouldn't and there are 4 vertebrae that are usually out of... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Way To Speed Up Recovery After An "accident"?
K8ling replied to lulu88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a script for Zofran to kill the nausea, and then I take ibuprofen800's for the cramping and stay at home. Thats the best solution I have come up with. I also put myself on the BRAT diet until the D stops. -
Unfortunately we have limited space in the car on the way there so paper and plastic will have to work for us. I also don't have celiac (according to my last bloodwork anyway), just a severe gluten allergy. But I do get VERY sick if I eat it so I will use you "ER" line, it's a jewel.
