  1. I really hope you get things sorted out, Nannu. I'm glad the forum has been a source of support even if we can't help you figure things out. At least your daughter feels well and is growing. That's the really important thing!
  2. This is hard, I know. I think your son will sort it out just fine though, and you won't be second-guessing yourself.
  3. Good grief. Celiac's disease? Their reporting is so poor they can't even get the name of the disorder right? They make it sound as if the diet is optional.
  4. As I said before, you will always question the results if a biopsy comes back negative and you took your son gluten-free for a few weeks before. We have people on the board who get into that situation all the time and they are sort of stuck. This is a one-time opportunity; you will never want to put him back on gluten again if the diet works well for him...
  5. I wish I had known about testing BEFORE I figured out I was celiac. I figured it out many years ago, when celiac was thought to be a rare disease. I did an elimination diet trying to figure out if my constantly upset stomach and IBS was from allergies, only I discovered the "allergy" was to wheat, rye, and barley. Soy and dairy were issues too, which is...
  6. And you believed it? I think to answer your question you need to eat a full-gluten diet for three months and have proper celiac testing done. If you're not celiac you may be able to eat gluten occasionally if you tolerate it. If you're celiac avoidance needs to be 100%.
  7. I've eaten it with no problems. I also love the Manischewitz coconut macaroons, which have no gluten ingredients.
  8. Boy, you can't catch a break at all. I do hope the yams work for you.
  9. It really does sound like celiac. You might talk to your pediatrician about the possibility of diagnosing him for school as well as talking to the GI. They should both understand the importance of diagnosis for school food and response to the diet might be enough. Hopefully with his serious fear of procedures the endoscopy can be avoided.
  10. For starters, four weeks is not necessarily long enough for you to test positive. I went and looked up some gluten challenge papers and it takes more like 2-3 months. Here's the post where I was talking about it. I did not gluten challenge. I was in graduate school and I could not afford to make myself sick again. I'm curious whether or not I...
  11. The one I was eating while I was trying to see if I was reacting to soy was Fearless brand Dark as Midnight and I really liked it. Open Original Shared Link I was getting the bars at Whole Foods. Theo also has soy-free organic chocolate. I can't remember whether I tried it or not but here's the site. Open Original Shared Link Happily I'm only needing...
  12. I hope you're not eating oats? Some celiac react to the gluten-like protein in oats and it will cause elevated TTG. It's possible that you are still getting traces of gluten too. I haven't run across Raynaud's as a cause of elevated TTG in my reading. Many, many celiacs cannot tolerate dairy and a lot of us have issues with soy or corn. I don't know...
  13. This site is pretty good, and there is a very active Yahoo! group you might join. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  14. Hi and welcome. No, celiac usually doesn't cause bloody stools. Classic celiac is failure to thrive, diarrhea, and stomachaches, all of which your daughter has. You need a better doctor. The unexplained fever is worrisome. CBC, thyroid, and blood glucose is not an adequate workup. I would want to see her tested for other autoimmunity like ANA and rheumatoid...
  15. Yes, reactions to wheat can go away. Leaky gut reactions to wheat-germ agglutinin and wheat allergies can come and go. You would probably be reacting to other foods if you had a lot of leaky gut trouble. Celiac and non-celiac gluten intolerance are generally lifelong and stress is a celiac trigger. Riceguy, remember that we will not hear of people who...
  16. If you have fructose malabsorption you will react to FOS, both in food sources and probiotics. You would also be reacting to foods like asparagus and onions that are rich in FOS.
  17. Welcome! That's not long and very clear. Some people opt out of the biopsy with an unambiguous TTG. It partly depends on whether you can get a Dr. to positively diagnose your son for school meals and college. With the diagnosis, he is entitled to gluten-free food under ADA. As far as gluten affecting the biopsy, I would not recommend he stop eating...
  18. Hi, Nannu I think I tried to tell you this in your other thread. TTG and anti-EMA levels are not necessarily correlated. You would have to compare her EMA to a baseline EMA, preferably by the same technician becasue the test is read by hand. (Which is obviously well-nigh impossible to get; the non-quantitative nature of EMA is why TTG is used to monitor...
  19. Yeah, we can definitely react to more than gluten. A lot of us have a little trouble with grains and starchy foods in general. Tomatoes kill me, especially raw. I read the GAPS book available at Open Original Shared Link and it was a real eye-opener. Some people have really messed up gut bacteria and starchy foods and sugar feed them and keep things...
  20. I assume there are no gluten ingredients. Does the bag say anything about shared equipment?
  21. I can't find mention anywhere of enzymes in coconut milk. So Delicious seems like a scrupulous enough company to mention it and they probably wouldn't pass GFCO certification playing games like that. I think you should be fine with it from that respect.
  22. If you're in the US or Canada you can order a GlutenPro home celiac test kit. Open Original Shared Link In Europe the kit is marketed as Biocard and it should be available in pharmacies. Do not go onto the gluten-free diet yet if you want to do a home test or pursue testing through the health dept. The test will not be reliable. I wouldn't recommend...
  23. I thought maybe I was reacting to Amy's pizza and mac & cheese. I was... but not to gluten. My dairy intolerance has returned AND tomatoes are an issue. Don't assume all your reactions to gluten-free foods are gluten. It might slow you down finding other intolerances. I would have felt better a full year ago if I'd stopped worrying about trace...
  24. Wow, I hope it works. Seems like I don't see coconut oil in commercial chocolate. I wonder why it's in the recipe? Did you get raw cocoa? I'm dairy-free too but I just buy 70% dark chocolate at the store.
  25. Keep trying good gluten-free brands until you're less tired and can bake your own. You'll just stay hypo and tired if you cave in and eat gluten - but you know that. I prefer Rudi's or Schar to Udi's.
