  1. Great advice so far. Remember that you cook in your own kitchen day in and day out. A dirty cutting board at home will CC every single meal you eat. You are taking a risk on the one meal you eat at a restaurant, but a lot that have gluten-free menus are quite careful. If your glutened symptoms aren't debilitating it's worth the small risk to go ahead...
  2. I'm glad to hear your allergist is going to have you challenge. The testing is unreliable. I totally understand the stress of a restrictive diet because I'm trying GAPS. I'm not sure what I'm going to do over the holidays but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Also remember fruits when you are traveling. It's pretty easy to toss a banana or...
  3. Hi there. Your daughter is IgA deficient and celiac. Your first clue to the IgA deficiency is the total IgA, which is not flagged, but it's low enough that they couldn't measure it accurately. The reference range is a red herring - putting the bottom at 33 when they apparently can't measure below 40 is nonsense and your doctors understand that when they...
  4. Hi there and welcome. I'm curious why you got the allergy testing? Were you still having GI symptoms? Your doctor should have explained that food allergy testing is quite unreliable and set you up with a program to eliminate and challenge your possible allergy foods from the test. As far as snacking, you'll need to make up baggies of "trail mix" tailored...
  5. Are you still eating dairy? That's the first thing to cut out and if that doesn't work try cutting out soy.
  6. If you can't get the testing covered under insurance, the companies where you pay will all execute the test correctly. The question is what information you're looking for. Enterolab does B-chain only. They give you all the results but you won't know for sure about DQA*0505. Kimball and Prometheus test for celiac-specific alleles including some DQA chains...
  7. The studies are published; I took quite a bit of time to look them up for you and everyone else on the board. You are being closed-minded and even worse your post reads to me as if you are threatening people with cancer. EATL is extremely rare even in untreated celiacs with a global incidence at or below one in a million. Think about it. If EATL were common...
  8. The TTG is so low it's hard to be sure it's a true positive. You're sure on the way to celiac if you're not.
  9. Banana and latex cross-react. Yes, your "problem" with both latex and banana could develop into anaphylaxis if you keep exposing yourself to them. Allergic reactions can escalate FAST. Explain the problem to your teacher, making sure he/she understands that you are having problems breathing, and insist on getting nitrile gloves. They should have them...
  10. Lucia, I'm really glad to hear you're doing so much better.
  11. I take a product called EmpowerPlus that has everything under the sun. Tons of B-vitamins, the RDA of fat soluble vitamins and iron, plenty of calcium and magnesium, plus chelated trace elements. On top of that I take an extra 2000 IU of D a day on my doctor's recommendation after I showed a mild deficiency, an extra 1000 mcg of B12 twice a week, probiotics...
  12. I vote for thyroid too. Dry skin, hair loss, muscle aches, weight gain, and slow healing are classic hypothyroid symptoms. Ask your doc if she'll test TSH and make sure she knows the modern reference range is 0.5-2.5. Some labs still don't flag TSH over 2.5 as abnormal.
  13. Well, you obviously have an issue with it but it probably isn't gluten. Tea can have more caffeine than soda. There is also carmel color in that brand. Carmel color is made from corn if wheat isn't declared on the label, but some folks still have trouble with it for non-gluten reasons. I'd personally be a little worried about drinking something that made...
  14. Nine samples is more than a lot of doctors take. I hope you get your answer!
  15. I suspect people who go into remission notice that they aren't reacting to gluten mistakes any more, much like Lucia noticed her reaction was milder. "Monthly" endoscopy wouldn't be necessary. For starters, the median time to remission is on the order of two months. If you eat gluten for six and blood and biopsy are clean you're probably OK unless you...
  16. I tried it and woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 4am unable to go back to sleep. Yuck!
  17. Mine was really simple because I was testing for allergies. Lamb, rice, and lettuce. Right now I'm starting into the GAPS diet to see if it helps my thyroid autoimmunity. If you have really bad diarrhea you basically make soup and eat just broth and cooked vegetables at first. Open Original Shared Link
  18. Yes, some people can eventually go back to eating gluten without symptoms or damage even if they are celiac. This is well known in the medical community, and has been written up in multiple articles. Mass denial of the possibility of recovery from celiac, however slim, on this board is unfortunate. Gluten intolerance cam come and go too, depending...
  19. Alas, strict gluten free does not necessarily prevent Hashi's damage or even lower antibody titers. I know this the hard way.
  20. Sweet! I'm happy to have a buddy in this. I have Threelac so I figure I'll start with that one and add the Bio-kult when it comes in. I hope my EmpowerPlus is OK for this diet because going off it is really not an option for me. You know what's weird? I joined this group last April to ask about super-sensitivity. I got FAR more gluten intolerant after...
  21. If you have to document it for YOURSELF, by all means do so. I'm all for science and I had to eat gluten a couple times and suffer the consequences to be sure of it. Good luck and I hope it isn't as awful as you fear! You keep talking about "doctors" and I just don't think it's necessary to document an intolerance that you KNOW you have for anyone else...
  22. We'll do this together! I just ordered the GAPS book, some Bio-kult, and Caldwell's culture starter. I think I can find unpasteurized cultured veggies at Whole Foods while I attempt homemade veggies. I'll have to start on the weekend as I don't have time to make soup properly the next few days. What sold me is that Dr. Campbell-McBride says it can help...
  23. I'm sorry your mom isn't understanding what you need. Just keep gently looking to improve the situation without aggravating her. (Which can be hard.) As far as therapy, try heading for the self-help section of your local bookstore. There are some fabulous "bibliotherapy" books out there. For relationships I liked "The Dance of Intimacy" by Harriet Lerner...
  24. You mean no clue about using the product for cleaning surfaces? I'm not surprised. We're thinking outside the box so to speak. To keep from getting CC'd you'd pretty much need to be taking the enzymes with every meal you prepare at home. That might get expensive but perhaps it's worth a go? I'd try cleaning with alcohol, and possibly putting butcher...
  25. How is your comment supposed to be helpful? She clearly got secondary bacterial bronchitis. Doctors don't give antibiotics for flu. Sarah, I have trouble getting well when I'm hypothyroid. The staph infection may be metihcillin resistant (MRSA). Has your doctor cultured it to find out what antibiotic might work to kill it?
