notme replied to seraphim's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
dude, *everybody* knows your posts well. and nobody is looking for any kind of fight. if you go hollering 'free bananas' in the monkey house, then i don't know the sort of response you are looking to invoke. (my apologies to the monkeys) ...... like O MY GOSH THERE'S WHEAT AT WALMART well, hells ya, there is, up and down the aisles, in every other... -

ARCHIVED How On Earth Can I Gain Some Weight?
notme replied to no7ang's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
hey, eers it's not an allergy but an autoimmune response to gluten - your immune system, normally the good guys who fight germs, are mistaking gluten for the enemy so they basically do a drive-by on gluten but they don't care that little susie <your intestinal walls, yeah, susie's a looker lolz) is sitting on the porch minding her own business. so POW... -

honestly, once i got used to making my own stuff, i don't have the inclination to go back to store bought - alot of the additives they put in are to aid in shelf life - i make guacamole, for example, that keeps 2 weeks in the fridge and that's because it contains lime juice and to make it stay pretty, i put a piece of plastic wrap inside the jar on top...

ARCHIVED Blood Test Positive...biopsy Negative.
notme replied to MollyBrack's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
they should give them all celiac 'connect the dots' workbooks - if you have rheumatoid arthritis, that is also related to celiac. i guess they all lose $$ if they don't treat you for one *symptom* at a time.......... and eating bread once in awhile will keep you sick enough to keep going to the doctor: job security! if you eat enough gluten, i guess you... -
ARCHIVED Rice Flour..any Problems With Off Brands?
notme replied to fatjacksonthecat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
yes, jackson, i have a ton of sensitivities but if there's artificial color or sweeteners in stuff, i run for the hills lolz - good that you are making your own stuff - you *know* what's in there and it doesn't have to be an un-natural color. you are always better off, even though it's time consuming, it's totally worth it if i buy something that is pre... -

good we missed you! tonight - i had the worst craving for caramel apples, i usually have apples but no caramel so i made caramel sauce and dipped them. i ate A TON. i ruined my appetite!! so, it's beer brats for the hubs w/onions & mushrooms if he wants (i have them cooking now) (i might try them later) and frying up some pickled red cabbage... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Beer
notme replied to newcoeliac13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
yah. no. i'm not touching anything with barley in it. they can say it's extracted or whatever - it's still barley and barley hates me! lolz i tend to go with things i can actually find out here in the woods. i'm currently pulling major strings to get me a supply of bards, because hardly anybody carries it unless you go clear to knoxville (which i... -
lolz! that is a good point! we have different 'criteria' here, don't we?! AND with all the fad dieters, somebody that says 'good tasty food' vs. somebody who says 'educated staff' or 'crumb free environment' or 'dedicated fryer' makes a big difference

honestly, i prefer the heat and i very rarely sweat - but, if it gets too hot, i 'wilt' - i have to remind myself to keep hydrated, my stomach feels 'off' - before i went gluten free, i was most likely to get a migraine when i was TOO hot.... you don't have a problem with corn, do you? cornstarch was the only thing in both of your meals that didn't agree...

i already don't eat there so i can't boycott it - or places like olive garden or applebees, chili's - ok, most chain restaurants i won't eat at - too much chance of cc. one of the reasons i have such a hard time being supportive of the 'find me gluten free' website. most of their recommendations are because the place *has* a gluten free menu....... not...

i had a nurse practitioner roll her eyes at me when i said my lip gloss had to be gluten free. then she said "you don't EAT it, do you?" i said "sometimes. when i'm reallllll hungry..." and stared her straight in the face. she didn't say anything after that............... -
ARCHIVED New To This! Post-Gluten Recovery Time And Fatigue
notme replied to eeka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
i agree with karen on this - there are a number of other things that you should be tested for to rule out any other potential cause, just to be safe. if it's your thyroid, for example, you would do well on a gluten-free diet but there are supplements you doctor can add as well. i got tested for 8 million things (all neg, but no worry from doubt that it...- 11 replies

good luck, marilyn - fingers and toes crossed ! -
mleh, i have ever made cheese sauce in a hurry (not just parmesan, all sorts)) by starting it out as white sauce. i usually use a mixture of cornstarch and white rice flour - the first few times it turned out too gritty (or once i used tapioca starch and it resembled glue lolz) until i cooked it longer in the butter - husband swears the 'non-wheat' flours...

ARCHIVED Any 'canners' Out There?
notme replied to notme's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
dah - i think i just lost that argument! i was thinking of marking on my funnel somehow - mostly everything calls for 1/8" or 1/4" - just so i didn't have to use a tiny ruler (hey, it must have been REALLY tiny, i didn't find it in the box!) we need different glasses to tell our other different glasses apart from our regular different glasses ! -

thanx, jackson i think i'll stick to the amateur one lolz - there's a few things in the authentic one that i know i'll never find around here! so it wouldn't be authentic just for shoots and googles, i looked on the interwebs for glutinous rice starch - most of the hits i got were for - get this - making pyrotechnics lolz - there were a couple of 'how... -

somewhere in the black mining hills out in dakota there lived a young boy named rocky raccoon - and one day, his woman ran off with another guy, hit young rocky in the eye, rocky didn't like that he said "i'm gonna get that boy".......... lolz - i have a friend who lives in rc; she loves it - one of my 7m3 buddies haven't seen her in ages; probably... -
