ARCHIVED Do You Like Hershey's Bars?
jenvan replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For me this isn't a issue over contamination in Hershey, but an issue of spreading incorrect information via the web. -
ARCHIVED Picked Up A Copy Of Labs
jenvan replied to 4tomorrow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
4tommorrow- 1st off, would it be possible to get a mannitol test? It is another way to measure damage to the intestines... read this article, might be another option for you: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=52 I will say if you feel better minus gluten, then stick with the gluten-free diet. Those who need a gluten-free diet, but don... -
Mandi-- Hi there...several questions. How long have you felt like this? Recently? Always? Since being gluten-free? After I went gluten-free, for several months I experienced some confusion, memory issues, but they eventually went away. Have you been 100% gluten-free? You wrote later on being contaminated, so I wasn't sure. Have you explored indoor...

ARCHIVED Body Pain And A Drained Feeling
jenvan replied to Kim UPST NY's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Kim- What kind of pain exactly? I think you wrote insane--so if the pain is excruitating and is affecting your ability to do everyday things or work, you should see a doctor. I deal with chronic pain due to Fibromyalgia, but I am able to continue my life and manage it with pain relieving techniques at home. -
ARCHIVED Do You Like Hershey's Bars?
jenvan replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with the camp that the info, IMO, is misleading. The are giving a definition of Celiac that is incorrect. If they are talking about a gluten intolerance, it could be different, but they say sprue. And they do not define the word "reacting." So, if they mean that some Celiacs can eat a small amount of gluten without experiencing a reaction/symptom... -
PghBOB-- sorry to hear they're still up. i had mine run last week and will see what the results are. are they extremely elevated or just slightly?

ARCHIVED Doing Better
jenvan replied to BamBam's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Mr. Bam Bam So so glad to hear Bernadette is doing better!! It seems like dairy may definitely be one of the offenders for her. I understand missing cheese, I miss it more than gluten really. Is she eating rice milk now? My fav Kinnikinnick bread is Italian White Tapioca. Her 40th! Have you thought about making her a gluten-free/cf cake? ... -

ARCHIVED Just Went To The Doctor
jenvan replied to 4tomorrow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Kristin- Yes, there is.... Read below for more info if you like on lamina propria. Lamina propria is loose connective tissue in a mucosa. Lamina propria supports the delicate mucosal epithelium, allows the epithelium to move freely with respect to deeper structures, and provides for immune defense. Compared to other loose connective tissue, lamina... -

ARCHIVED Just Went To The Doctor
jenvan replied to 4tomorrow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
kristin-- (hi!) that is also SUCH a good question! i wish i knew. perhaps they did not really see flattening. perhaps the flattening was very slight and the biposy did not show an increase in lymphocytes in the tissue. The latter would make no sense to me though, b/c if there was any flattening, I would think lymphocytes would be increased... ? I... -
ARCHIVED Just Went To The Doctor
jenvan replied to 4tomorrow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Can I just say the whole 'low gluten' thing drives me crazy! Glad you two are thinking things through on your own. 4tommorrow-let us know what enterolab comes up with. If I had any flattening, I would go full-on gluten-free. Unfortunately as doctors are beginning to recognize Celiac/gluten intolerance--they often do not diagnosis those w/o the 'classic... -
ARCHIVED Can Casein Do "silent" Damage Like Gluten?
jenvan replied to jnclelland's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have not read a lot on the subject but I have seen accounts of documented villous flattening in those with a casein intolerance. Study on this has focused on children mostly. Casein can definitely also effect permeability in the intestines too. Your question is a bit of a hard one, as not a lot of definitive answers have been found yet. If you want...
