  1. I hat to rain on your parade but the last four days have been just perfect in Michigan. 55-60 deg F and no rain. I had the day off and rode my bike for five hours. Thursday we are supposed to get cold again.

    ARCHIVED Red Lobster

I've never had any problems and they have always been accomodating.
  3. The Atkins diet is what led me to the gluten free diet. I follow the Atkins diet faithfully and it has worked wonders for me. It is easy to follow a diet that alowed me to lose a lot of weight and makes me feel good.
  4. I have to travel for work quite frequently and often eat at Denny's. I have never had a problem and have found the staff to always be very accomodating to my requests. I order food that is naturally gluten free and very carefully explain what I need. So far so good with Denny's
  5. It happens to the best of us and all you can do is ride it out.
  6. I have a friend who discovered she had very advanced lymphoma when she was 21. There were no symptoms until it was spread throughout her body. After a year of agressive radiation and chemotherapy the cancer was gone. 15 years later she is doing just fine and the cancer has never returned which is unusual for lymphoma. It is possible to beat cancer.
  7. I had gone over a year with no gluten either intentional or accidental. I used a new shampoo and didn't read the label. The bottle even had the words HYDROLYZED WHEAT PROTIEN prominently displayed on it too.
  8. I glutened myself four weeks ago and I am finally back to normal. I experienced fatigue and brain fog but I was still able to function. The brain fog was not nearly as crippling as it used to be. It is probably safe to say that if you keep yourself healthy that any accidental glutenings will decrease in severity. However this could vary from person to person...
  9. I wasted the first 36 years of my life because of gluten. Don't make that same mistake. I carelessly glutened myself with shampoo 3 weeks ago and I am just now starting to get back to normal. Gluten just isn't worth the trouble it causes.
  10. Only celiacs can truly appreciate the joys of a good dump.
  11. Yes you do. I have been very careful about the foods I eat but two weeks ago I started using a shampoo I had not used before and didn't read the label. I used this for a week with no ill effect but it caught up with me. The brain fog returned, DH, bloating and all of the other fun symptoms of celiac but could not figure out why. Just by chance I looked at...
  12. I was 36 and had to figure it out for myself. I went to dozens of doctors and all they wanted to do was write lots of prescriptions.
  13. Makeup is for clowns. My girlfriend rarely wears any and that is just fine with me.
  14. I turned 39 so I am almost old now. It is hard to resist a thread about hot fourty something women.
  15. I was always a stout and brown ale fan but New Grist is really quite good. It would be better if they used more hops but I'm not complaining.
  16. I just cracked open a New Grist in celebration. Back in the pre-gluten free days I went to the GABF once and it was like I died and went to heaven.
  17. Good Luck! If I can do then you can do it. It takes time and effort but it can be done.
  18. Buckwheat is my favorite. I find that it doesn't cause me any weight gain or blood sugar spikes like other grains do. I eat mostly fruits, veggies and meat with some dairy and nuts thrown in. Buckwheat is very high in protien and fiber.

    ARCHIVED What To Say?

I say "Okay I'll eat it but you're the one who's cleaning up the mess not me." Usually gets the point across.
  20. Of course Altoids is the single most important aspect of celiac. Without that magical little candy life just wouldn't be very much fun. I don't get to hang out here very much because I have so many demands on my time now. With the help of this forum I was able to get healthy and get a much better life. I had lost my marriage and almost lost my job because...

    ARCHIVED What Do You Miss?

New Castle Brown Ale, Guiness Stout and Two Hearted Ale. New Grist is good but it is not the same. I miss all of the other gluten foods like a big giant hole in the head.
  22. Gingko didn't do anything for me. It is really expensive and wasn't worth it.
  23. Nope, no way! The smell of gluten foods makes me want to barf. The brain fog is not worth it and I can't afford to lose my job because of it.
  24. Basically it explained why the first 36 years of my life were a disaster. Now almost 3 years later it could not be better. It is better than I ever could have imagined.
  25. There are gluten free beers out there. New Grist seems to be the most readily available and is really good.
