ARCHIVED Oh Happy Day, gluten-free Honey Nut Cheerios!
Judy3 replied to maximoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been eating them with no issues however, I wanted to bring to your attention some 'conversations' that have been happening in the Celiac world that they may not be consistently gluten free. General Mills developed a process to take regular oats (not certified gluten free from the farm) and remove the traces of gluten in it to make their product. ... -
ARCHIVED Taste Of The Wild Cat Food
Judy3 replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used to feed my cats that all the time. My male now has diabetes and my female had bladder infections regularly while on it. Be careful with that stuff!!! -
My favorite restaurant in Chicago is Quartino.. they are an italian restaurant but have an extensive gluten free menu. Google it for location and menu

ARCHIVED Genetic Test

Just my opinion but if the child has the genes AND has gluten intolerance already that is Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Help, Please! I Don't Know How To Eat Out Or If I Can?
Judy3 replied to shiffy k's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Outback I would trust.. other's not sure. Mexican food is good when you are in a strange place. ALWAYS tell the waitstaff that you have Celiac. I know don't want to broadcast but it will help believe me. Recently, I've been asked is it a choice or an allergy when asking for gluten free.. I'm always upfront and blunt. Celiac disease, allergy if... -
ARCHIVED Other Food Sensitivities And Timing
Judy3 replied to ThisIsMyUserName's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hang in there, it takes a long time to heal from the damage of Celiac either initially or a glutening. Sometimes there isn't an answer to why something pops up again. Just be vigilante with the diet and keep smiling I know it's tough I'm almost 5 yrs into this and I still have a day here and there where I wonder what the heck is going on... Not... -

I've been gluten free almost 5 yrs now and just this week I was re-tested for all my food allergies Shrimp and seafood, fish, tree nuts and flax and they are ALL GONE! I was able to eat some almonds last night with no reaction and a tuna sandwich for lunch today!! I had anaphylactic shock from Shrimp 23 yrs ago so they won't let me eat that on my own...

ARCHIVED One Year Gluten Free Tomorrow.
Judy3 replied to Chibiehotaru's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't have the dairy issues but have some exciting news about my food allergies. I've been allergic to shrimp and fish and nuts for years (23 to be exact) and diagnosed with Celiac almost 5 yrs ago. I have been gluten free since that day and now my doctor sent me to an allergist for my sneezing etc.. and it turns out that I have nonallergic rhinitis... -
Not sure what to tell you about fast food except its probably not an option for gluten free. I use Glutino bread and it holds up pretty well for a sandwich when I take it to work doesn't need to be toasted either and that's a plus because most of them do to be palatable. You have a hectic life so planning is essential as you already know. Cooking...

Hi I have all of the above.. Celiac, Arthritis, and Fibro. My rheumatologist never mentioned a 'Celiac Arthritis' but he did say that I have it 'everywhere' which leads him to believe it's not just normal Arthritis but my Rheumatoid tests came back negative. Maybe there is something to that. My Fibro isn't as bad as it used to be since I'm gluten...

Regular wheat flour is banned in my house although it's just my son and I. I have Celiac he doesn't (yet) The reason is that when you are mixing pancakes, cake, anything really, the dust from the flour can stay in the air as long as 4 hours which inhaled flour is just as bad for a person with Celiac as eating it. So we buy my son regular bread from the...

ARCHIVED New To All Of This - Questions
Judy3 replied to sbojo32's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My adult son lives with me and he does not have to be gluten free. He eats gluten free at home except for breads so that he doesn't cross contaminate me and we eat the same meals we had before basically. His rules for bread are that he has to use a plate and not get crumbs in the butter, jam etc... You could get your own containers and don't use community... -
I had a thyroidectomy in 2013. I take Levothyroxine daily now and don't have any issues with it. I'm not sure of the brand, the label says LAN but my pharmacy got me a special one because of the Celiac I know that. My pharmacy is quite good where they check all my meds for gluten before they hand them over to me.

ARCHIVED Best Flour For Gravy?
Judy3 replied to nvsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I sometimes use xanthan gum in gravy but just a pinch (like a pinch of salt) to give it some texture but it's not necessary -
ARCHIVED Best Flour For Gravy?
Judy3 replied to nvsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just use my flour blend with a pinch of xanthan gum. I keep this on hand for baking and to make gravy, make a slurry with it and perfect every time. I spent a lot of time experimenting with this blend (a little will to bake and a lot of science ) it works cup for cup with any recipe gluten free or not (of course with xanthan gum added). Most of the... -

Judy3 replied to HappyMom623's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Vegetarian, Gluten-Free And Dairy-Free - Can It Be Done?
Judy3 replied to carriej82's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am not vegetarian but I do try to maintain a semi vegetarian diet. I found this website that is very helpful. You have to look at the recipes as many contain dairy. I never had to cut out dairy when I went gluten free but I know some did. There are some pretty amazing recipes out on this site. Whole foods are the best with seasonings and you... -
Hi there, You can still make crock pot dishes just have to eliminate gravy made with wheat flour. If you aren't into cooking I won't go into the laundry list of special things you can buy to substitute but the one thing you should have on hand if you need to thicken something is rice flour. Casseroles you can find gluten free condensed soup, I believe...

The general manager at my Red Robin tracked me down somehow and called me to discuss what happened and has now sent me a $40 gift card to please come try again. She said everyone involved has been reprimanded and retraining is happening. She even gave me the name of a waitress to ask for who also has Celiac and eats there every day she works.. So we...

ARCHIVED Family Sometimes Makes Me Feel Bad...
Judy3 replied to gfpirate's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I understand your feeling hurt by that comment. I get that all the time from my Mother and Brother. They refuse to accept it or deal with it eat what we bring. sooooo my son and I skipped Christmas dinner with them and went to my aunt's instead...<evil grin>. My mother was put out when we stopped 'just to visit'... I told her that I love her... -
I went to Red Robin here in my town the other night and after a strange conversation with the waitress and a few sips of water we left without eating. They didn't have the buns although the corporate office assured me they did. The gluten free menu I was handed was nothing more than a typed piece of paper stating so many disclaimers and relieving them...

ARCHIVED I Think My Dog Has Celiac!
Judy3 replied to pain*in*my*gut's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have cats and they were always throwing up, so because gluten caused me so many issues I thought I'd try something. I changed them to a grain free cat food called Taste of the Wild and they are both doing great. No throwing up, not as much shedding... and they love it. Venison and Wild Salmon seems to have caught their attention!!
