The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Slightly salted fish and chips here too. I tried the malt vinegar years ago when in Ireland, but I did not care for it. However (pronounced howevah) Bostonians, nay all New Englandahs I know high -dose ketchup and tartar sauce on nearly everything that comes out of the deep fry-ah. 'tis a shame really, but I think most of my family does not really... -

Yes, of course, we should give the poor girl some SUNSHINE and restorative rest. Going old school/retro tonight for dinner: Meatloaf Baked potatoes Swiss chard Might have a bit of vanilla ice cream. That's a Sunday night thing in our house since I was a wee one. It used to be a "Sundaes on Sunday" tradition with my Daddy --we are... -
ARCHIVED Dermatitis Herpetiformis ? Pics Inside
IrishHeart replied to Azalin's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hon, sorry, but no one knows what "causes" celiac to trigger in predisposed individuals. No medical site, Pub Med article or celiac researcher can say for sure what the cause is. (Believe me, I've researched this thing for 3 years and I've looked ) All we know is it is hereditary and is triggered in predisposed individuals who are consuming gluten... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Lactose Intolerance, But Nothing From Gluten
IrishHeart replied to DistressedNewbie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It is--in the case of celiac and It can occur as a result of other intestinal diseases such as gastroenteritis and an IBD like Crohn's disease. Treatment of the underlying disorder may restore lactase levels and improve signs and symptoms, though it can take some time. As Shroom and Ski have pointed out, if the villi are blunted, the lactase enzyme production...- 6 replies

Good stuff, K!! and good luck at the tournament! I thought that the Udi's bread traveled surprisingly well for us last month. Did not get stale, I kept it in the fridge. On the road is "do-able" now. The Jif on -the- go cups, crunchmaster crackers, apples and celery sticks worked well. Some Chobani cups and bananas for breakfast. The Koolatron cooler... -

I honestly think you should remain on gluten and have a celiac panel blood test done. No offense, but rashes are not necessarily DH. I had all sorts of rashes and red spots, intense itching, scalp peeling and sores on my face and scalp, etc. before my diagnosis, but it was not DH. (For example, I have one now but it's not gluten-related at all.) OR... -

CP, you're still new here, so you are just beginning to see what she can do. Our Love2 ...oh, she does not just "cook", nay,......she weaves magic! She makes a plate talk and say "thank you, thank you, thank you". She makes people drool uncontrollably on their laptops. Legend has it that she once caused a mass migration of nomadic people to walk... -

see, this is the kind of math--and logic--- I rely on you for, sweets. Thanks. .I have even had some 5% days but still got out of bed and did my "thang". And here's my take on "battles and hope". "You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it" --Margaret Thatcher Absolutely true about celiac recovery. Hope is what I hang my hat... -

Ski, my sweet friend, Your story is beyond inspirational and your job as head cheerleader around here has not gone without merit. You've been a large part of my recovery the past year, too and I'd like to join in and tell my healing story so that future readers can see that healing happens!!!--even for those of us who were dying the slow death that comes... -
Addy, Do NOT take 5-htp if you take anything that boosts seratonin levels. You will risk seratonin syndrome (been there/done that) and it ain't pretty. You think you're wired and unable to sleep now? holymacaroni.... The insomnia thing is a &^%$#! I know. Had it all my life. It can be tamed. And the pain can be tamped down. I lived in that hell...

Paul, The cherry blossoms in Dee Cee looked especially glorious this year (on TV anyway.) Gosh, I just love those trees!! Well, Lovey, Spring is taking her sweet time arriving here in upstate NY and (having just left behind the gorgeous flowering bougainvillea and hibiscus of Florida ) I am feeling your exasperation. The grape hyacinth, forsythia... -

Hon, you're totally misreading the sentences people have written and misinterpreting a "tone" that isn't even there.. The word clearly (when used an an adverb) just means "plainly and obviously" indicated...as in "wheat will be clearly stated on the label".. Take a deep breath and read the replies again. No one is being rude here. Honest!! -
Eggs do not contain gluten, nor are there any gluten "cross-reactive" foods as far as the celiac researchers know. (yes, there are bloggers and chiropractors out there who say "they exist". ). There is no Pub Med info that confirms these" ideas". It could just be your system does not like eggs right now. I can't eat eggs because they bother me. Baked...

IrishHeart replied to John from Canada's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
More good info from G F in Dee Dee there. I, too, had to forego dairy for the first few months. I added things back in slowly. The digestive enzymes and probtioics really helped to straighten out my GI tract. I was a burning mess from mouth to rectum. Just agony. Now, I am "right as rain" after a lifetime of so-called "IBS", ulcers and GERD, etc.. Things... -

Hi John, Shroom has given you some great explanations and Gee Free in Dee Cee has posted all the links and info I might have added (thanks, guys!) so I'll pipe in with this: (1) I have used a variety of probiotics, but this one is a good broad spectrum one. No gluten, no dairy, no other allergens. Open Original Shared Link (2) Many of... -

Hmm, sounds just like my Mom's "goulash" recipe. Plain, no cheese though... She hates cheese-- I know, can you imagine??!! I can't be her kid. -
Yes, but just be sure to take the wine FIRST, before anyone dips a wafer in there. If you tell your priest or minister you have celiac, he or she can have you come up front first. I also got my Mom a pyx. She keeps the unconsecrated wafers in her freezer, puts one in the pyx on Sunday morning, brings it to the church, hands it to the priest before Mass...

I simply cannot express how happy I am for you, hon!! I know what it means to take back your life and feel better.. Hooray for healing! Big hugs to you. I've been known to get the quizzical look when I guffaw out loud. Karen's one-liners on emails, for example often prompt those. By the time I explain it, he's not interested anymore. I think our humor on here is more of a "you had to be there" kinda thing. SkiLIsa and I share a common issue of histamine intolerance. Strawberries are a main culprit...
