  1. This past week was a food festival. Still avoiding high histamine foods, except for that margarita I just downed, but managed to eat out at 3 highly recommended gluten-free places: Bonefish Grill in VA, FL and 2 places in the Keys. Marker 88 and Chef Michael's. Grilled Chilean Sea Bass with mango salsa Herbed jasmine rice, asparagus (I had that twice...
  2. J says go with New Planet or Green's. You can brine and sip some at the same time. Slainte, sweets!
  3. Everything else, hon! It's do-able, I assure you. Hang in there.
  4. Before I bow out of this discussion too, I'd like to add that the majority of us on this board had multiple health issues from celiac, including anxiety and depression. Adherence to a gluten-free diet, supplementing with appropriate vitamins, minerals, amino acids and probiotics, eliminating other food intolerances if they arise and finding ways to enjoy...
  5. Still flabbergasted by that sentence. I do not think "old wives' tales" constitute sound medical advice. The tips of the villi is where lactase, the enzyme that helps us to digest the lactose in milk is produced. When the villi grow back, people usually can digest lactose once more. Some celiacs still have problems with dairy, yes, but not...
  6. I have never read a medical journal that says "as a celiac we never recover all of our villi" and "Eating dairy coats the villi" --hindering nutrient absorption????? what the heck does that even mean?? how does dairy COAT the VILLI Is this exactly what she said? Are you sure, because this makes NO sense whatsoever, so I am skeptical of...
  7. Cali, hon---you may need to drop the expectations so you do not put too much pressure on yourself to be "instantly healed". I had to learn that one early on. The times I felt "wussy" were when I did not respond quickly enough. It was during those times that Gemini and the others told me--just hang in there. It may take a long time. I did not like that answer...
  8. Exactly why I do not say how long it took for me. I had complications that are not typical of most celiacs and so, saying it took me over 2 years plus intensive physical therapy to boot may sound disheartening for some newly diagnosed. I am not the "norm". My GI doctor says he has never seen celiac disease manifest in the myriad of symptoms as it did in...
  9. I am thinking that fresh whipped cream makes everything dessert-ish.
  10. I am pretty sure you and I have had this discussion before, but I'll pipe in again. Most celiacs can tolerate dairy, soy and everything under the sun ONCE THE VILLI regrow and the GI tract is healed. My doc recommended 6 months DF, then give it a go. I waited 10. I could not tolerate many foods, dairy included, at first but now, I enjoy it just...
  11. I do not think Peg needs to start worrying about refractory sprue. Feeling crappy once and a while does not mean dire circumstances. It may mean she is just still healing. Peg, correct me if I am wrong, but didn't you just do a gluten challenge not too long ago? (I feel like it was you we were cheerleading through a challenge about 4 months ago) If...
  12. What a kick-ass analogy!! well said.
  13. I have to step in and say something about your comment. You could not possibly be more wrong in your assessment of Gemini. Common sense is her strongest asset. She is, in fact, the first person who reached out to me when I first came on this site and she has more compassion in her little finger than most people I know. She is very celiac-savvy and knows...
  14. Just one more thing I like about you...you are willing to "take one for the team". . ..and my thighs do not need them either.
  15. Happy Anniversary, my friend........you are so inspirational and I'm ecstatic we are "getting back" instead of continually "taking out". Rock on, sister--enjoy that walk!! xx
  16. Always. Total appreciation for every single sunrise! Every little activity, indeed, like swimming with dolphins this morning. They gave me kisses, Addy..They jumped through a hoop for me. They let me stroke their bellies. They danced and "sang" for me--as I was in the circle and the dolphins chittered and people sang Happy Birthday...
  17. I think I just heard a squeal of delight over here in my hotel in Georgia. Was it the sound of victory over 'da lentils? I had white beans in a white chili last night that we brought with us, so I see your lentil and raise you a white bean. Lisa, this is how we reclaim our lives--one stinkin legume at a time! So excited for you, sweets ---...
  18. Addy, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, sweets! xx K, my portable kitchen was devised by reading your suggestions last year and adding the Koolatron. Plus, I also found a cool collapsible colander. Less awkward to transport. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00886546000P?sid=IDx01192011x000001&kispla=00886546000P&srccode=cii_17588969&cpncode=30...
  19. Yes, my vision was "perfect" too, according to the eye exams I had done, yet I had blurry spots. dry eyes, blepharitis, double vision on occasion and wicked floaters. Visual disturbances are not uncommon with celiac. If this does not resolve, I'd see a neuorologist, IMHO I still have hope that this will resolve for you off gluten. Keep us posted...
  20. One last check in before we go, just to say: yaay for no glutenings on the road, Mindwarp, my buddyl!! good on you. yaay for finding guava leaves and white tea, Ski!! Let's hope they do some magic. I'll find some in FLA. and yaay for being a veteran and packing up a portable kitchen. This year was so simple compared to last year. The traveling...
  21. Good article, P--thanks for posting it.
  22. Maybe this will help? https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/
  23. Passion Street - Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes
  24. Hooray to getting foods back and I me a good cup o' joe, too!
  25. FWIW, My celiac-savvy GI doc insists on follow up care. Blood tests, including a CMP, CBC, Thyroid panels, vitamin levels are run He also did a small bowel follow through with barium (he was ruling out lymphoma, Crohn's and other inflammatory bowel diseases as I was long unDxed) and had I wanted it, a referral to a dietician. He does a repeat endo on...
