  1. I hate to sound like a broken record on here but more WATER in the diet is essential for bowels to move ---as are probiotics. Having suffered either chronic C or D most of my life, I did a LOT of research on the causes of these extreme conditions. Hypothyroidism is a factor, for sure. But there are ways to get you running more smoothly, IMHO....
  2. One more thing...try So Delicious Coconut milk and Ice Creams. tasty alternatives to dairy.
  3. Many people decide to "test the waters" for some reason. Does not matter why, it's human nature. You "get it" now--so just get back to you "new normal"--gluten-free all the way. It's a learning process. Hope you feel better soon. Do you want an easy recipe for a chocolatey decadent flourless cake that will make you cry it is so good?? I can give...
  4. Naw, no worries......WE. GET. IT. You know the famous line from Casablanca: "We'll always have Paris? Well, we'll always have each other here at C.com, KIDDO!
  5. Nutritious gluten free foods are meats, veggies, fruits, seafood, nuts, eggs, cheese (if you can tolerate it). If you mean you want some GOODIES, that's a different story. CHEBE mixes are free of most everything that could bother you right now. I think it was MarilynR and Kareng who suggested this brand to me as I do not normally eat prepared...
  6. Are you sure it did not say the ingredient lactAse--which is an enzyme you need because you are lactOse intolerant? They are frequently confused.
  7. No need to be paranoid, kiddo That's not good for recovery. Yes, the internet overflows with misinformation, but there are some places where you can get good information, too. (hint, hint) We can help. Read about celiac from RELIABLE and CREDIBLE sources. Maybe your gut is still healing and cannot take scotch right now. I had to give...
  8. Shared fryers?? well, gee....you gotta stop doing that! otherwise, you are not really a GlutenFree Austinite It's doing damage whether you "get sick" or not. Maybe you should read some more about celiac and how this works? and just wondering....did you happen to eat from a shared fryer the same week you drank the scotch?? just sayin...
  9. I am happy to hear your have reduced your need for insulin! I read that diabetics can benefit from supplementing with probiotics some time ago and tried to convince my sister to use them. No go. (She also refuses to be tested for celiac, which is heartbreaking. She is also hypothyroid. But the more I nudge, the more resistance I get.) Maybe I will...
  10. Apples are not acidic, hon. If it bothered you, it's not because of acidity. Citrus fruits are acidic. Tomatoes are acidic. Do those bother your stomach? I used Enzymedica Digest Gold. They are expensive, I have to say, and I bought them through iherb.com They were recommended by folks on here and they work well for me. There are probably some good...
  11. The link to the ad for the pans says "non-stick"...could be!
  12. You're never too old to be a kiddo! It's a term of endearment...just my "thang". 25 years teaching, I guess.
  13.   I still have trouble with "ma'am" ugh
  14. She's got plenty of time to do it then. Thanks for the update!
  15. Ditto from me.
  16. These guys have done a great job explaining to you why it is not gluten you are reacting to but more likely, the lactose or casein. If I can add two more cents Lactase, which is the enzyme that breaks down the sugar lactose, is produced in the tip of the villi. When the villi get blunted in celiac, sometimes the ability to digest lactose is decreased...
  17.   waadisay?? A bonding moment with MIL?? yah, that IS pretty funny. When I typed those words, I felt like this Oh, shroomie -----wasn't it you who told me never to DRINK at the computer ?? No food either apparently.... See, ADALAIDE--it's getting more and more hilarious by the minute. Just blow it...
  18. Good for you, Kiddo!!! Life is good when we do not feel like crap every day, yes? I think having one's brain de-glutened and the vitamin/minerals, EFAs, amino acids, etc. leveling off does improve one's outlook. Continued healing to you !! ---and thanks so much for telling us how well you are doing. It is encouraging to everyone...
  19. Since I know where every single bathroom is within the 175 mile radius of my home, including the back roads in 3 neighboring states, (and sadly, some remote spots once employed in emergency situations ) I can so relate to your pure joy at being "normal" again. I was never "normal" in my life. Until now. so, YEAH, BABY!! That is AWESOME...
  20. I, too, have had to refrain from banging my head against the walls after hearing some ridiculous comments such as: "You can have white bread then? It's not WHOLE wheat, right?" and YES! soon, this will be hilarious to you---as hilarious it is to me right now. (really? beat the gluten out?? wouldn't that be great!! ) But, I have had some time...
  21. nope, honest. I just know we all need probiotics and they are reasonably priced, recommended by my doctor, and backed by research. (That always makes me feel better.) But if I did, then I would probably have to warn myself for violating the rules of blatant spamming...
  22. Glad you feel better, and I am also wondering if you have not benefited from using the digestive enzymes, taking the probiotics and eliminating the Nystatin your system did not need. That drug causes bowel and stomach problems for people, especially if you take it for a prolonged period. Glad you are eating again and nourishing your body. Stay...
  23. It's funny, but a while back, I posted about her story, too as I found her story interesting. I think we saw it in hub's Sports Illustrated maybe? Can't recall exactly. Reading about her and having some of my own sciatic nerve and connective tissue pain issues caught my attention and gave me hope for resolving them. Good for her that she figured out...
  24. Lost my gall bladder after being ill and in terrible pain from it for a year. I was 26. NO ONE in my family has a gall bladder left --seriously, sister, Mom, sister, cousins, aunts--all gone. And they all have various autoimmune diseases (diabetes, thyroid, crohn's, RA, etc) and gluten sensitivities. Mom and Dad--classic Celiac symptoms. I am the only...
