ARCHIVED Itching
IrishHeart replied to Jill0711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Quite a few people I know have DH. Some have blisters from head to toe. Clears up after going gluten-free...The sores I get on my scalp are tiny, like pimples only "harder"..and "wet". Not DH, which is more like oozing sores. ALSO...Not everyone with celiac gets DH; however, all people with DH ARE celiacs. So, itching without blisters is not necessarily... -

IrishHeart replied to Jill0711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your symptoms are REAL!! You are NOT alone!! No one on here will tell you anything "weird" going on in your body is "all in your head". I have --I am not kidding--a list of symptoms covering 3 pages in a notebook. They developed gradually and I just kept going to doctors, specialists, etc. No one had an answer for me. I am crippled with chronic pain, insomnia... -

Jill, I crave sugary foods, too!! Man, I could eat a whole chocolate cake right now!! It's only 8:45 in the morning!! Sticking to a whole foods diet--that means NOT ONE SINGLE PRE-PACKAGED ITEM ALLOWED!!-- is difficult at first. And inconvenient. But it is the best way to go. I eat a lot of fruit to satisfy the sugary desire. I use stevia... -

Thanks for telling us this great news!!---everytime I hear someone has healed, I tell myself, stay the course, it's coming to you, too!! -
Hi Evelyn! I have a terrible burning mouth, tongue, throat. No one can explain it..it is NOT yeast or anything. Not my thyroid either. And an endocrinologist insisted I take meds, but they only made me HYPER and racy. Another doc said You do not need those...get off those!! I feel better now. I read that burning mouth can be a celiac symptom and I am...

Hi Leonie! I can't add much more advice than what the very wise Ms. Mushroom has offered (especially about being 100% gluten free is the key for us)but I say "welcome" and hope there are answers here for you. This forum has been INVALUABLE to me and my healing process. Best wishes--or should I say "g'day?" Irish

ARCHIVED Itching
IrishHeart replied to Jill0711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I felt like that to!---like, what else is going to make me feel itchy, sunburned, spacey- headed..."revved up"...and I went from enjoying a nap once and awhile to being unable to do it all --for over 3 years--even though I could barely keep my eyes open--what's up with THAT??!! How can we have insomnia when we are so darn tired?? Doesn't make sense... -

FC! THIS IS GREAT NEWS!! So happy you are sleeping better!! I have always been a "frequent awakener" too. Since I was a babe. I had a sleep study done too--they said I slept in "portions" . I do--and I have vivid, colorful, all-senses engaged nutsy dreams. (I was chatting with someone about this on another post. Quite common amongst gluten-filled... -

Jill, hon,,,You are NOT whining! You are expressing the frustration you feel...WE ALL FEEL IT...and this is the place to do it!! I've been "sucking it up" for so long, I've turned inside out The itching is just 1 of about 100 (I am not kidding) symptoms I have had going on for over 3 years ..about 1/2 of them (insomnia, "IBS" -HA!, muscle/joint pain... -
ARCHIVED Angry At My Gi Doctor
IrishHeart replied to Rob-A's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Rob, I cannot say how angry I am FOR you that he did this, especially after you ate the poison to have the biopsy! I have read 3 posts --just this morning--about arrogant doctors and I have met my share of them as well. I am like you. I wanted a positive TEST result for proof, for some reason. To validate my years of pain and anguish and so... -
Ms Curious, I know how you feel. I have met my share of these arrogant jerkwads. I have kept records of all conversations with them for 3 years. When I am healed and as clear-headed and articulate as I used to be, I am going to write them all long letters telling them they not only missed the boat diagnosing me, but they were so dismissive and rude to...

ARCHIVED Itching
IrishHeart replied to Jill0711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The borax/citric acid idea is worth investigating! Thanks! Once I knew gluten was my problem, I started serious label reading of all the products in my house. I found hydrolyzed wheat protein in my shampoo and my hair spray. I wondered why I would feel as I were suffocating every morning for a few hours!! Once I eliminated those --and replaced everything... -
ARCHIVED Yeast?
IrishHeart replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
First of all, her/his "answer" is no answer. It isn't even all that coherent. In any case, this person is grossly misinformed. I am never surprised by how little people seem to regard the fact that ANY amount of gluten is NOT acceptable for celiacs. (Some think if it is not made with wheat, it is "gluten-free.") I wouldn't bother responding... -
ARCHIVED Itching
IrishHeart replied to Jill0711's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I have itching. And my skin is hot pink sometimes and burning all the time. I had the itching, etc. for 3 years before going gluten-free and I still have it 2 months later. My scalp is so sore and peeling. Not DH, just tiny bumps here and there that are more like hard, wet pimples. I also lost a good amount of hair. My thyroid levels are fine... -

ARCHIVED Burning Skin Sensations
IrishHeart replied to IrishHeart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
OMG SUZI Q!! Your pain "spread" sounds just like mine! I also had a bad car accident/whiplash YEARS ago and it's been a steady progression. Both shoulders had surgeries--temporarily relieved the pain. PT, chiro, massages, kept the pain "controlled," but eventually, my hips, knees etc. were involved and finally, in Dec. 2007, after a bout with sciatica... -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog And Seeming Dementia....
IrishHeart replied to aderifield's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I know how you feel!! I also have sore temples and the top of my head hurts and I get a "squeezing" like a vise grip on my head. It has gotten a little better, but I also have neck and jaw pain, so those may be contributing to the problem. As for the Brain Vaseline? It scared the crap out of me. I have been to all the specialists. My brain is... -
ARCHIVED Dry Mouth A Side Effect?
IrishHeart replied to Terri O's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, I had a dry mouth BEFORE going gluten-free. It is much better now. I understand it can occur for a number of reasons: hormonal shifts, diabetes or sugar imbalances, bacterial infection in the mouth, some autoimmune diseases, yadda yadda yadda....I just found out I need periodontal work (ugh) and that can also accompany a dry mouth...Oh goody!... -
ARCHIVED Burning Skin Sensations
IrishHeart replied to IrishHeart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My blood work was NEG too. My doctor said NEG blood work happens too frequently and that all my symptoms are enough for him. Me, too! I refuse to eat gluten to have a biopsy. No way--I cannot be that spacey- headed or sick on a daily basis ever again! THAT is very scary. I have the exact same thing. Weak hip/abs/legs (post hyster) and awful pelvic pain... -

ARCHIVED Burning Skin Sensations
IrishHeart replied to IrishHeart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
cass, suziQ Thanks for your thoughts. It is perplexing--and difficult to live with, yet I keep hoping it will alleviate some as I heal up. It came on when everything else did, so I am guessing it is just part of the celiac picture. I did read where burning including burning of the face, hands and tongue are associated with this. The chronic pain... -
