ARCHIVED Dating Thoughts And Profile Help
IrishHeart replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I did not actually laugh, exactly, but the irony of it was not lost on me as I had been telling THEM (the docs) I had it for years. Good thing we have good senses of humor, yes??. (or someone was getting strangled.....) -

ARCHIVED Diagnosis Received
IrishHeart replied to SimonSez0721's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I see you have "fibromyalgia" in your sig line. And migraines and OA, and ...well, you sound exactly like me! Everything you had, I had and then some. .How many syndromes can your doctors diagnose you with until they see the big picture? Syndromes are just a collection of symptoms, not a diagnosis or a resolution to the problem. You have to look at the cause...- 15 replies

ARCHIVED How To Help Family Cope!
IrishHeart replied to sheilaamistone's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I ran this one by my hubs ( although it is EXACTLY what I was going to say, honest!) and he said "tell him to imagine being hit in the jewels.... and then having them squeezed for several hours". Any man can relate to this pain. -

No sauce, hon. Here is what I do: Roll out a Chebe dough. Then, brush on garlic- studded olive oil. (mince up 2 cloves of garlic and let them sit in 1-2 TBLs. of olive oil for the afternoon) Place slices of fresh ricotta on the crust and a healthy layer of shredded mozzarella and some shaved parmesan Throw on some diced broccoli florets, thin sliced... -

You're right....I have not been able to find "being a total git" listed anywhere as a celiac symptom. How ironic that you turned out to have celiac as well, though. Life is crazy sometimes. -
ARCHIVED When Does The Exhaustion Stop?
IrishHeart replied to tka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
well, you are special of course, because you're wonderful YOU..... but maybe you need to stop putting your hands in your mouth? Hand sanitizer is not as effective as soap and water anyway, Barbara Almanza, an associate professor at Purdue University who teaches safe sanitation practices to workers, came to an interesting conclusion. She notes... -

IrishHeart replied to tka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just want to say: It may be present, but it should be noted that the article also says: "The good news for people with celiac disease is that soap containing gluten shouldn't cause any problems unless you ingest it. It can't be absorbed through the skin by contact " Really, the nearly miniscule amount of the intact protein that may possibly be... -

okee dokee...I'll be here! Seriously, kiddo....I think you are very wise to give eating out a try. It can be done successfully and once you get a few under your belt, you'll have more confidence. Don't let this thing confine you or define you. (if somehow, somewhere down the road you get hit by CC, it may be yucky, but it is not the end of the world... -

IrishHeart replied to River*'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeast sourced from sugar is gluten free--as they have explained in their email. They would have no cause to lie, hon. From Gluten Free Living: "All brand-name packaged yeasts sold in the US are gluten free. Autolyzed yeast in a food product is generally considered gluten free. Brewers' yeast, when it's a by-product of beer, is not considered gluten... -

Guess you never heard the expression "don't mix your poisons", kiddo. I can drink, but I would never mix all those together and expect to feel okay the next day (or the next week) I'm surprised you didn't hurl your brains out. You may want to take it easy on your gut.
