  1. I saw this in my research travels. "monosodium glutamate, better known as MSG, is a form of concentrated salt added to foods to enhance the flavor. This salt version of glutamic acid is an amino acid the body can produce on its own, but the MSG we find on store shelves is processed and comes from fermented sugar beets." 2. Nope, hon. That's why I said it was fine right here. (I was replying to larry mac who thought it belonged elsewhere)
  3. That is the mother of all lists, Lisa. Thanks, hon!!
  4. Open Original Shared Link Elana Amsterdam is your new friend for all things gluten-free, DF and almond-y.
  5. I would not risk it, hon. You would have to be on many drugs (pre- and post-surgery) which would seriously impact your gut health. Anesthesia often causes problems. I would think donating blood is fine (mine was always rejected because of anemia) or possibly even a bone marrow transplant, but a surgical procedure and an organ transplant? Not a great...
  6. I have a problem with it, it gives me migraines, inflammation (my hands blow up like like balloons) and nausea, but I know others who have adverse reactions to it and they are not celiacs or NCGIs.
  7. yeah, MSG makes me sick to my stomach and gives me a migraine. Always has.
  8. Hubs is the cheese shredder in this house, too. And the mandoline handler. "Lucy" is barred from using that one. Although one time, he sliced his own finger on that puppy and I had to keep from saying "see! see! It's not just me!" lol
  9. Since W8tin is still negotiating the ins and outs of the G F diet, and she feels this is still a coping issue, I think it's okay for this topic to remain right here.
  10. I'd like to see the evidence that states that gluten is in paper towels pleas?. Color me very skeptical, but I am always eager to learn. If there is a valid source for the info, we would appreciate it.
  11. BOO ....on "vote down" buttons! people use them to be mean. what purpose does that serve? this is a supposed to be a supportive community. IMHO, of course.
  12. We already have a "like button"...it's the vote up on the right. See? I just did Karen's.
  13. Can some celiacs tolerate a little gluten (maybe cross contamination and the like?) well, I can tell you........this one can't.
  14. I keep a bunch of baby carrots & celery sticks in the fridge for when I get the munchies. I have almonds, yes and I have almond butter to dip into, if I need something. One thing I noticed (sans grains, legumes, dairy, sugar) is....I felt funny the first week. Then, by week 3 my sleep improved. I had more energy. My appetitie descreased, but then...
  15. hahaha! Hey.....our man (also named) Scott Adams owns this site...can they possibly be the same guy? Scott??? are you the creator of Dilbert too? You never told us!
  16. There are some excellent gluten-free beers made from G F grains. (New Planet, Greens, Bard's, New Grist for starters...) Omission is a "gluten-removed" beer and no celiac should drink it. "Beer store guys" are not the best resource for information about the safety of G F beers, hon. So sorry you got sick. Don't give up on drinking a good G F beer...

    ARCHIVED Online Doctor

I do not know of any expert celiac doctor who has the time to chat online. My doctor is awesome, but even he can't take time to do that. That said, he will return my calls on the same day, but he is my doctor and I am an established patient. (and he loves me ) What types of questions do you have? If they are general questions about celiac, look...
  18. . Mostly berries. but I like melon and an apple on occassion.
  19. Sounds a lot like a paleo or primal diet (which I am on) but you can have dairy, is that right?.
  20. I can't really offer you any input or conclude anything because (and I do not like to tell this to people)the truth is, Kenneth Fine's testing methods have not been validated or peer-reviewed. He has yet to publish the results of his research in a mainstream medical journal, so most doctors discount EnteroLab stool testing as a way to diagnose any food intolerances...
  21. You shouldn't micro plastic...the chemist hubs says this is a NO- NO. You're welcome. Love, Mom I would not say I am uber "crunchy" but I am just an old hippie, I guess (who did not even OWN a micro or a computer until I met the hubs --an ENVIRONMENTALIST and chemist who worked for NY ENCON who said "whattya nuts? welcome to the new world! " (yes,...
  22. I have to agree with this. Jackie, One thing I recall from the beginning of the healing phase was this: I thought that everything was still getting me because I was still sick from gut damage. You can have up and down and all around days for many weeks after diagnosis. I had trouble with things like dipping sauces, tomatoes and spicy food, etc. even...
  23. Making this a lot more complicated than it has to be. Let's cut to the chase. Everyone who has posted has given you rock- solid advice, but maybe if we summarize it.... (1) Have the celiac blood panel done now while you are consuming gluten because you actually can have Celiac without villous damage YET and be positive on blood panels. (2) Have...
  24. That's absurd. Relatives of diagnosed celiacs should be screened. In fact, they should be tested every few years. Bring him the latest info from the U of Chicago Celiac research center that says this is HIGHLY recommended. Or get a new pediatrician. IMO
