ARCHIVED Need Moral Support For Travel
IrishHeart replied to C-Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh honey.....whenever you are on the other side of a number, the lower one is YOUNG. My 87- year- old mother (who is probably healthier than all of us, goes to the gym and does the stair master and cardio-kick boxing and can rake leaves without huffing and puffing--and yeah, I ave often thought maybe I was adopted, but I am not) lol says "Age is... -

NO cinnamon rolls, young lady! Do you eat red meat of any kind? I find that really satisfies me. Wish I could have chocolate. It does not like me right now. Last night, I veered waaaay off course and we are celebrating the fact our new home is done (it was being built and the process was lOOOOOng) Not sure if it was the rice I broke down... -
ARCHIVED Gluten/anxiety/how Quickly Symptoms Disappear
IrishHeart replied to AprilBeth2013's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Might want to try NOT eating out for a while hon. I find that continuous CC from kitchens can really provoke my symptoms. Restaurants try really hard and some get it right (Bonefish Grill, for example) and some do not. Reading labels gets easier, but yes, that "wheat sprouts and wheat grass and barley" thing on the Odwalla label...would send me running... -

Sweets, I am sorry it did not work out for you. Love ya and hoping that soon, you can get some more foods back. We all keep living and learning...(and I will probably pay for that creme brulee tomorrow...) but for today, frankly, I just did not give a shyte. -

Not sad. I call it fortuitous. Hey, everybody.!!..guess what? WE CLOSED and TOMORROW, we move in so... WHOOHOO!!! Thanks for all the moral support and love. xxxooo G We ended up going OUT to Bonefish Grill. I had Chilean Sea Bass, asparagus and then, threw caution to the wind and had Creme Brulee. YUM. Tomorrow, after we settle on (gonna... -

True dat. I can honestly say that every Canadian I have ever met...is indeed friendly, sweet and compassionate. (and my maternal Gramma was French Canadian and she was the biggest sweetheart ever!!.) Yes. -

I agree with Colleen. Before you go all caveman, ditch anything from a package. Use my 5 ingredient rule: If the label has more than 5 ingredients (and I cannot pronounce half of them and even my chemist hub shakes his head and makes that face like "er, that's not food, that's just chemicals") LOL then, I don't eat them And for what it's worth, I have...

Hey, hey. hey now....that's food discrimination. lol I still post mine (low hista amd primal) and .... "Satisfying and good" is what dinner is all about.. Last night I had bison burgers with onions and baked sweet potatoes and roasted asparagus. Tonight, filet mignon, roasted root veggies, arugula salad. (and champagne, because tonight, all... -
But hon, you ARE on topic. You did not offend anyone. Do not let one person's comment cause you to feel as if you did something wrong. If the moderators of the board did not move it out of the coping section, then we feel it's a coping issue. You're still new at this and you were telling us how you coped with yet another new hurdle. Am I right? Please...

I agree with Gem about being sure you feel good enough to travel internationally. However, I said "Go for it" because I was thinking that if you do not say yes now, you may lose the opportunity. If down the road, things change, well, you can decline then. I would hate to see you balk at it out of fear you might not feel well enough in 5 months. ... -

ARCHIVED Tax Deduction For Celiacs!
IrishHeart replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good luck with that. My GI doc told me both people he wrote a medical note for were audited. Sudden additions such as these are big red flags. You have to have a huge amount in medical expenses, coupled with the cost of gluten-free food, and show the difference per item for every single thing you buy. And if there are people in the home consuming the... -
and....what I would give to "only" have celiac without "additional intolerances" or other AI diseases and complications. (which seems to be more the norm than the minority around here) .

No, I am old school. I just drink plain, brewed decaf with a bit of CREAM. sometimes, I get bold and put cinnamon or vanilla in the grounds so it brews in the flavor. -

ARCHIVED Need Moral Support For Travel
IrishHeart replied to C-Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would most definitely take the offer. You have time to heal and get stronger. Your system is NOT what it was and 5 months from now, it will be even stronger. Real Food can be found anywhere. Invest in a Koolatron cooler for your car. I love mine! Carry food with you. Use Find Me Gluten Free Apps. You can do this. Europe is better at gluten-free than... -
I waitef I waited for you to come back and respond to this issue (rather than butting in) because if anyone knows about corn, corn by-products and corn derivatives, it's you!

ARCHIVED Gluten In Breast Milk
IrishHeart replied to Heather-707's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Research Center: Q: Is gluten found in breast milk? A: There is little to no human research about the effect of gliadin, which is the portion of gluten that passes through breast milk. However, in animal studies it has been shown to have a protective effect, or help the child build up a tolerance to gluten...- 23 replies

ARCHIVED Grain Brain Diet - Gonna Try It!
IrishHeart replied to WinterSong's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I suspect I fall more into the primal camp as I do use KerryGold butter, sometimes eat yogurt .....oh, and I drink vodka. Giving up grains, legumes, cheese, all high histamine foods (shellfish, cured meats, toms, citrus, etc.) and going to the gym is torture enough. Not giving up those, too. lol I found Robb Wolf's book an interesting read and...
