  1. Hi M! It was pretty darn good. I used to do it in the oven, but Sylvia reminded me recently to break out the slow cooker I had in the closet. While I have your attention -- I made the cheesy bread rolls with the CHEBE mix you suggested--- and they were GREAT!!! Hubs loved them with our burgers. Thanks so much, hon! I cannot have corn or...
  2. I wish MY sister with her diabetes, hypothyroidism, high BP, etc. would listen to this little sister who loves her deeply and knows she is a celiac, too. sigh....
  3. LOVETOTRAVEL told me she is gone away and so, I feel like we have to carry on making something special once and a while in her honor. Last night was pretty blah, so today, I have osso bucco (veal shanks in wine, stock, tomatoes, onions, veggies and herbs) going in the slow cooker and I will add Saffron risotto to it and some roasted asparagus. I have one...
  4. I have used this very sentence on here, Chill! "My GI tract was in flames and raw--from my mouth to my rectum." Even water hurt going down. But, it was "just GERD" the GI's snippy NP told me as I cried, a shaking bag of bones sitting in front of her....and she gave me a bag of Aciphex to take home. Oh, and a script for anti-depressants. Both went...
  5. scalded, burned tongue, mouth, throat, my whole GI tract. In flames. It was misery. (no doctor knew what that was either and some suggested I take anti-depressants) It's a symptom !!! and I had it all for 3 years(check Recognizing Celiac Disease by Cleo Libonati) It's gone now.
  6. amen, sister! and yaay! I am so glad to have some company in my "rant fest"!! thanks for posting, even after a long day.
  7. Have your brother read this post, please Cara. One of the many symptoms I developed was severe muscle, tissue and tendon pain, loss of muscle mass and weakness. I could not sit, stand, lay down or walk without agony. It even hurt to lay my cheek against the pillow or wear clothing. To prevent total atrophy, I forced myself to keep moving for ...
  8. I left my two cents on your blog: Thank you for writing this, Scott and for refusing to let them advertise on Celiac.com I cannot understand any organization looking out for the welfare of those with gluten intolerance (Celiac or NCGI) endorsing this product as safe. The very term "Kitchen practices may vary" makes this entire concept a joke. Can you...
  9. .........and there it is. but "they say it's gluten free!!!!" I was wondering how this would impact the people who would have to deal with enthusiastic but clueless co-workers who think this is "a great idea!!". It didn't take long for your post to show up.
  10. I figured maybe you were on a news delay!? what do you think about all this?
  11. yes, the OP says the same ovens. Same everything. ....never....see my rant **
  12. Excuse that mini-rant I just get tired of the baloney.
  13. I'm with you, Karen. Can't seem to get people to understand the following: Gluten FREE eating means Gluten FREE. FREE of GLUTEN. ENTIRELY. It doesn't mean "maybe, kinda, sorta" It doesn't mean dabbling in it or "gluten lite" it doesn't mean 4 out of 7 days and on holidays we take breaks. It doesn't mean use non-gluten grains, but...
  14. Frankly, I wouldn't eat a domino's pizza before DX. But even if it were the only available gluten-free pizza on the planet, the CC issue makes it totally off limits to me. Just using an alternative flour does not make it a safe "gluten free" option. People just do not seem to get that part.
  15. Guacamole, mango salsa, Beef Tacos and flan here! I love Cinco de Mayo!
  16. Yes, a fudgy brownie! Sorry about the LI --I had that, too...for a LOOONg time, but now, I can tolerate it . Maybe you will get it back? Hope so.Best wishes.
  17. So glad you liked it!! I do it with fresh whipped cream and berries myself...yum! (and makes for tight jeans! )
  18. They do not have a lot of preservatives in them and so they spoil quickly. Also, many brands come frozen so they can be shipped to places where gluten-free products are not readily available. They appear "doughy" because gluten-free baked goods have no gluten in them and so xantham gum or guar gum is used to re-create that elasticity and binds it together...
  19. The sources you cited are: --a forum thread discussion (but you say it is not where you got your information?) --as site that sells vitamins and supplements --a blog and she ends with: "NOTE: It’s important that a clear laboratory diagnosis is determined before attempting high dose supplementation with zinc and/or B6. Working closely with a q...
  20. I tried these when I was traveling recently and needed snacks to have handy. I do not know how "powerful" they are, but they are pretty darn tasty http://store.nugonutrition.com/category/nugo-free.html
  21. Did you ask if he flipped a coin for that diagnosis? What an ass hat.
  22. The sad thing is....they would not even see WHY their responses are so ridiculous!!! I DID say something to several of the practitioners whose behavior I reported to you guys in my long post. I got silence in return and one half-hearted apology left on voicemail that sounded like a lawyer had written it and he had practiced it. Carefully worded...
  23. Just a ridiculous story, honey--sorry it happened. ?? and people wonder why stories abound on the news of "average nice people" who can't take it anymore and snap and go all postal.......??.
  24. That story is whacked. Total insanity. A disgrace. That poor woman. Hope the family sued the hospital--although it would not be much comfort to them.
