The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
shadowicewolf replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
When i was younger i always went barefoot. I learned how to run quickly across the dark road in 90 degree heat. When i moved, however, the area i lived in was really rocky so i couldn't really do it. Pasta tonight. Very little time on my hands. -

ARCHIVED Hair Spray With Wheat Starch - Possible To Get Glutened?
shadowicewolf replied to Salax's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dry hairspray floats? Never heard of that one. I wouldn't think it would sense its heavier when its dry from what i can tell. Did you by chance get some on your hands and somehow ingested it that way? That's the only way i can think of. -
You can be both allergic to wheat and have celiac at the same time

ARCHIVED Is It Worth Seeing A Dietician?
shadowicewolf replied to Lexi1989's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
1. Up to you. I didn't and i learned how to do so. 2. Have you tried cutting out soy or dairy? I'm thinking, however, the big issue here is the fact that you are getting cross contaminated. That could be the source of all your issues right there. 3. Funny thing about it is that symptoms do change over time. They can get worse or they can lessen. ... -
ARCHIVED I Don't Understand My Test Results... Help!
shadowicewolf replied to PrairieGal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would, at this point, suggest doing the biopsy. The thing about those blood tests is that one out of the panel can come back positive, and you can still have celiac. I'm suggesting the biopsy because of your family history plus the positive blood test. I'm not very knowledgeable with the DGP IGA, but i do know that it is quite sensitive for celiac... -

ARCHIVED Disabilities Act And Celiac
shadowicewolf replied to Ciel121's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I looked at those. Looks like a great option for some. But other things as well, like salads, meats, and fruits. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just an area that was dedicated to it i guess. -

Its in the 80s here with rain drizzles. We went from blizzarding one week, to rainy week, to summer stuff. Everything seems to have jumped a foot and my allergies are going crazy. Dinner? No clue. -
ARCHIVED Disabilities Act And Celiac
shadowicewolf replied to Ciel121's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That would be nice actually. I don't see actual restaurants being able to do this, too many risks. However, if there was a good section of food in airports that would be nice. -
ARCHIVED Day 5 gluten-free At Dr's Recommendation, Questions!
shadowicewolf replied to Missmtl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The itchy rash you had could have been DH, a skin condition that can be found with celiac (not all of us have it though) and that in and of itself is a diagnosis (if biopsied next to a breakout). Celiac can cause you to gain weight, just as it can cause weight loss. If you wish to be tested for it, then you have to stay on gluten, sadly. Then there... -
ARCHIVED Probiotics And Testing?
shadowicewolf replied to greenbeanie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The test tests for the antibodies produced by the consumption of gluten. So as long as you are on gluten it should be fine. As for the endoscopy, it should be the same as the blood tests. -

ARCHIVED Disabilities Act And Celiac
shadowicewolf replied to Ciel121's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep, we're covered under it. But like it was already said, its only really useful for school situations. For example, some colleges require their freshman (and sometimes sophomore) to live on campus in the dorms. With the disability act, that student can have accommodations in the school's cafeteria. -

ARCHIVED Gallbladder Issues Related To Gluten Intolerance?
shadowicewolf replied to Aviiii's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The pain of a gallbladder is not fun. Mine was 5% when i had the HIDA scan done. I opted for the surgery because it was a constant pain. I could hardly stand to move. Heck, even the recovery from the surgery was no where near as bad (it still hurt) as the pain my gallbladder caused me. I would look into further testing for celiac. What tests did you... -
ARCHIVED Is Genetically Modified Wheat Common Now-Days Responsible For This Condition?
shadowicewolf replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are going to pick on poodles then you have to pick on the whole dog breed as they are not 'natural' either. Selective breeding bred for certain traits and not others. You could also throw house cats and horses into this generalization as well, because they too have undergone it. Could the cross breeding have caused more cases of celiac? Eh, I'm... -
ARCHIVED Are Blood Tests The Only Way To Dx
shadowicewolf replied to harley1200's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, for celiac there is also the endoscopy where they do a biopsy and in addition to that there is a gene test, however, this one can't diagnosis by itself. There are no 'official' tests for an intolerance, outside of a diet change to see if that is whats causing it. As for labs, i don't know. -
ARCHIVED Dq9 Is Also A Celiac Gene
shadowicewolf replied to nora-n's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It wouldn't surprise me, to be honest. There is a lot about genetics that we do not know about. Who knows what other genes can trigger it?
