    ARCHIVED Gerd !

ARe you eating gluten-free? Is the nausea from the GERD. I haven't been diagnosed with GERD. Mine I guess is heartburn. Well, it is mainly just burning in my throat. Anyway, It isn't everyday for me, but I do think not drinking caffeine should help some. I don't know. If you are truelly miserable, then I guess surgery is an option. I am a mom to three boys...
  2. I live in Knoxville, TN. PF Changs is great. I don't have alot of things to offer. I do eat at a resteraunt here called McCallister's deli. You can get a very nice baked Potatoe. More like two baked potatoes. I eat there alot and get this. It is pretty plain the way I get it, with butter, sour cream and green onions, but they have awesome sweet tea. Also...

    ARCHIVED Gerd !

I started getting this all of the sudden too. Never had it before, minus my first trimester of pregnancy and only with my first child. TUms helped me then, but now they aren't gluten-free. I have taken Tagemet and it doesn't really do much. I do find that if I don't drink any coffee I am better off. I like you though am extremally miserable and I don't...
  4. christine, The question is why is your daughter not eating? Or is she eating? How old is she? I thought one time you posted and said you thought she may be depressed. WHat about nausea? Is she having that and can they treat her for it if she is? It sounds like she is probably depressed. I would be if I were her age and having to deal with all of this. We...
  5. I am just not sure insurance companies are our best bet. Aren't the people that work in them making ALOT of money and most are clueless about the actual care of the patient. I could be wrong and if it work it is a great idea. I think it would be great though to have the doctors more educated. THe problem is older doctors that don't know how common celiac...
  6. Susan, I liked the weight I was at before going gluten-free. I am 5'2 inches and 105lbs. I run and exercise all the time. i try and make healthy choices as to what I eat and what not still. It is a bit hard sometimes, because I am vegetarian and everything I believed before just went out the window. I didn't gain or lose weight on the diet, but it is important...
  7. Carole, That is exactly the way I would describe how I am after getting gluten. I usually do have GI symptoms ,but sometimes I just feel exhausted and don't want to do anything and I can't concentrate. I haven't figured out anything with casein yet. I am finding out I am feeling better off of dairy. I haven't completely eliminated it, but I cut back. Haven...
  8. I am SOOOOO sorry for the hell you have been through. No human should have to endure all that for 35 years. I know you are over joyed to find the answers to years of suffering. I suffered for years too and had two kids with birth defects, but you really had alot to deal with. Your story is very sad to me. The part about having gas as a child. I remember...
  9. Dani, I can't explain what is going on for you, but I too feel that depending on the amount of gluten I get the symptoms for me seem to vary. I got gluttened on Saturday. My first symptom is always having alot of burping(weird I know), but I don't do this any other time. Then that evening my belly was bloated and I had heart burn. THen the next morning...
  10. Nature's Path makes a wonderful gluten-free cornflake and sweetened with fruit juice. It is the only gluten-free cereal I like. I get it at my health food store. Monica
  11. I really like the part about not paying them. Maybe we shouldn't have to pay when they don't give us any help. That would be great. I hate insurance companies too! You pay them and they do everything possible to not cover you! Sorry you have to pay bills still. We do too for my son's surgeries that weren't covered, because we went out of network. Luckily...
  12. Berneses, Same thing would have happened to me if I had had the biopsy. My GI doctor said to eat wheat for one week. I had been off of it for six weeks. I knew it wouldn't tell me anything. I knew when I ate wheat I felt sick. I wasn't going to have a biopsy, that he even said may come back negative and probably would come back negative. He even said it...
  13. floridanative, I agree. LIke my mom went in and told her doctor that her daughter and grandson had celiac. Of course the first arrogant remark out of his mouth was, "that doesn't mean you have it". He is obviously clueless. Then she has been diagnosed with IBS with C in the past, another doctor said it sounded like she had fibromyalgia. So she has suffered...
  14. It sounds like it has taken alot of people years to get diagnosed. I was anemic in high school and then never got diagnosed until I was 31years old. My symptoms were nausea, frequent stomach aches, being down on and off alot, anemia, fatigue. I went to many doctors over different things. I had the nausea for years, but just thought it was "me". I really never...
  15. I had a weak positive too, but I had been on the gluten-free diet for two months already. I was feeling better and didn't wish to start eating gluten again for a biopsy. I would recommend you have the biopsy. My GI told me I probably had Celiac (my son has it too) and to follow the diet. My level was two points below the abnormal. He said most people that...
  16. I too had terrible joint pain. Whenever I get gluten, I have it return. Mine is mainly in my legs. Monica

    ARCHIVED Insensitivity

Janie, I am sorry you had such a rough time without food. I also am vegetarian and gluten-free. It isn't fun for me. I really was depressed about it for a few weeks about a month ago. I found I needed to cook ahead of time and have good stuff available, otherwise I was really depressed and just didn't bother to eat good food. It is the worst part of this...
  18. debmidge, I thought I would tell you what Neurofibromatosis1 is. It is a genetic disease. Although, we didn't have it. It was a mutation (as they call it). Anyway, for now he has cafe au lait spots (light brown birthmarks). He is normal otherwise, but most problems start at adolescents. It can become very cosmetically disfiguring, as they can get small little...
  19. Pamela, I read your reply and I can only say "WOW!" You must have seen the scum of the earth. I wasn't really offering any advice, just my personal experiences. Sorry you harbor so much anger. Hugs, Monica
  20. Does anyone experience worse pain at night after being gluttened. I am trying to figure out what is going on. I will have pain at night in my abdomen. WHich causes me not to sleep well. It has been this whole week and I think I may have had gluten on Monday. During the day I haven't had a ton of symptoms, other then some C. It seems to hit me sometimes out...
  21. I feel a disappointment in the medical system too. I will say though. My husband and I got married almost 9years ago and he has been in medical school and residency for 5 years after that. We have tons of student loans to pay off. He has studied his BUTT off for 9 years. He has slept like 5 hours a night since he started. He has read tons of books in his...
  22. I am sorry you are feeling so bummed. I have been gluten-free for like 9 months now and it does get easier. I find if I make up some casseroles that are gluten-free and have them available, it does make it easier. My son was younger, so it is nice for him that he doesn't have to miss certain foods. He doesn't know any better, but I miss some foods badly....
  23. Armetta, THat is an awesome story. AT least the part that the doctor finally diagnosed you and 60 more patients. Thanks for sharing your story. GLad you are getting to help other people with Celiac. Monica
  24. Karen, Yeah, by the end of my post ,I thought maybe I should be angry!! LOL!! I am not. Like you said, it is worse for everyone for a person to harbor anger over something that isn't fixable anymore. Does no one any good. INspite of my kids health problems, I feel VERY blessed. I have a wonderful husband and 3 handsome little boys. I am kind of partial...
  25. Ok, well let me tell you about my experience with celiac. I am the one that posted the pros of some good doctors. Just to let you know, I have had symptoms since high school, Anemic,(thought I had leukemia)bloating, went to ER several times, no one diagnosed me. Granted, I didn't have the "classic celiac" symptoms you guys have had. Like I said though, they...
