I believe this is harder as a vegetarian. i have been rebelling for a year. All the "meat substitutes" I ate before and loved were made from wheat. I basically don't have a "meat" now. That is the hardest part and I was a die hard fan of whole wheat bread! I have been on the diet for almost a year and can't say it is the easiest thing. Especially not being...

ARCHIVED Would You Eat Cheetos?
key replied to mart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My celiac son and I eat cheetos with no problems. I didn't know there was a problem. I would let him indulge. I guess if he gets sick from them, but we have never gotten sick from them. Monica -
Do you drink any coffee or caffeine?? THis is bad for people that also have IBS. Just a thought. It doesn't work for me. Also I would very your diet a bit. Cooked carrots, applesauce, bananas. HOpe you get to feeling better soon. Monica

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance And Candida
key replied to Aetheana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
BEfore going gluten free I had had vaginal candida almost every month or more for like six years. Haven't had a yeast infections since. I don't follow any other candida diets. SO for me, I definitely think it had something to do with a lowered immune system maybe from celiac. Monica P.S. It has been almost a year since going gluten free and haven't had... -
That is insane!!! I would call them at least and ask them to put you on a calling list if they have any cancellations. If everyone has to wait as long as you do, then I am sure not to many people would cancel their appointment. I am sorry. Is this the only person you can see? Can you share a bit about your diet and symptoms. Maybe we would have some ideas...

Lollie, Yeah, it has been four days since no Prilosec and I am fine, but I haven't touched caffeine and I know if I did, I would be having problems. It doesn't matter how much caffeine either, even one diet soda and bam! I had only been taking the Prilosec for about three weeks, but felt I would never get off of it. I wouldn't have if I hadn't given up my...

I am vegetarian and without some of the prepackaged gluten-free flours and cereals, I might starve to death. I figured out I would have to have eggs and cheese every morning for breakfast. It is expensive and my husband is a resident. I feel so bad for people on this diet without any extra money to spare. Monica

ARCHIVED What Unusual Concoctions Do You Enjoy?
key replied to jaten's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love potato chips dipped in cottage cheese!!! MMMMMMMM! Peanut butter on banana's. Also sandwiches with sliced banana's, pb, and some mayo on the other side. THis sounds gross to people, but it is really good. I use fat free plain kraft mayo. Can't think of anything else. Monica -
I would try eliminating dairy too for awhile and see what happens. Also look into the GERD idea. Other then that, I don't know. Maybe another food intolerance. Monica

ARCHIVED Can You Have Ibs And celiac disease?
key replied to gointribal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
WHen I went gluten-free I hadn't had the blood tests. I too came back borderline positive for celiac and chose not to have the biopsy, because I didn't want to start eating wheat. I felt great for the first 4 months on the gluten-free diet. THen everything seemed to hit. STarted having heartburn horribly, C, stomach pains, nothing seemed to agree with me... -
I have finally come to the conclusion that diet soda and coffee are not right for me. i don't eat them and I don't have C and IBS symptoms. I swear at this point I am not ever drinking them at all. They were giving me heartburn and stomach aches, etc. I know what you mean by not feeling better. I started feeling better right away gluten-free, then four months...

Rachel, Where do you get Transfer factor? Sea cure? Thanks, Monica

I have felt so miserable and can't seem to get my health back lately. I was just thinking today that I want to buy a juicer and start juicing. I have talked about it on and off for a few years and now I think it is time. What brand do you have Dianna? Also where do you get your recipes and veges from?" Monica

It is very rude, but there are alot of people this way in fastfood. They don't care and they can hardly keep some of those places filled with employees. I am sure it is different depending on where you are live maybe. This is why I don't eat at places like that very often. They just make you feel aweful. Sorry they were rude to you though. I would complain...

ARCHIVED Kinnikinnick Breads
key replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love their mini pizza crusts, very easy and tasty! Also love their english muffins, I cut them into thirds, because I think they toast better that way. Their white sandwich bread is great for grill cheese sandwiches. Monica -
ARCHIVED Distended Stomach - Lots Of Pain - I'm Confused!
key replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like it is probably dairy. I am there with you as far as it being taxing when you don't feel well anyway! Sometimes I wonder what is the point, but felt worse before, so I guess it is worth it. It will get better and sorry you are so miserable! I don't know what to eat either. I get C it seems all the time unless I have gluten and then I get major... -
Kerri, Yeah, I just woke up one day and my digestive system is rebelling!! I need to buy some apricots dried, because those have really worked for me before. I don't do laxatives. THey are bad for you. I am going to cut out dairy and caffeine and I think that will work for me. I think my problem is the caffeine. It does something crazy to me. Whenever I...

ARCHIVED Really Quick Question....what Is The Strongest
key replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Prilosec is gluten free. Works awesome for heartburn, but I am afraid to quit taking it. It isn't instant relief. It actually takes a few days to work. It only took about 24 hours to work for me. I have been taking it a little over two weeks and need to stop, but I haven't been able to quit caffeine and I am afraid the horrible heartburn will come back. ... -

Prilosec might help. You could try that. Monica -
I think I will have to try salmon when someone else has cooked it and I have heard it is best from Alaska. I have looked in the stores, but can't bring myself to cook it. I have heard it is good with lemon and other seasonings. Sorry you have such bad problems with C. I don't know what to tell you. My mom is miserable most the time with it and nothing works...

My bruising was bad when I found out I had celiac. It got much better once I was gluten free for a few months. I think it was from anemia. MOnica

ARCHIVED Ok We're Forgoing The Biopsy...now What?
key replied to celiacsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son didn't have the biopsy and he had such a dramatic response to the diet that that was enough for the doctors and us. He never cheats or gets gluten. He is almost a year into the diet. Very glad we didn't have to put him through having the biopsy. Good luck starting the diet. At first it was hard with our son, because he wasn't eating very many solid... -
Carole, I had inconclusive blood tests. THey were borderline. I know I have it and my son has it too, but I get so sick when I eat wheat that I won't eat it for a biopsy. I had a hard time though,. I would think it was in my head and maybe I just had IBS and then eat something and be so sick! Then say to myself, "I won't do that again!" About 6 weeks later...

Lynne, I am sorry you are dealing with C. That is horrible. It sounds like you are trying too. Do you drink caffeine at all?? I am trying to figure out if this is a trigger for my problem. I am trying LExapro right now, but who knows. I have only taken it for like 5 days at half the dose. I don't like drugs at all! I am very anti-drugs, but when this all...
