ARCHIVED How Bad Is Wheat In Shampoo?
key replied to ErraticBinxie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I confess to using shampoo with wheat in them. There just aren't hardly any options without it and it doesn't seem to be bothering me. I know I might face some wrath for saying this. Anyway, I don't use lipstick with wheat. I do try and make sure the shampoo doesn't get in my mouth. It comes down to a personal decision I think. Monica -
ARCHIVED Falling Apart :(
key replied to RoseNNJ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Rose, See how the diet makes you feel and maybe once you have the H. Pylori gone you will feel better. It will get better and sorry you aren't feeling well. Monica -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Glutening?!?!
key replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kinnikinnick is in a dedicated plant I believe and I eat it all the time without problem. Maybe it was just a fluke thing. I love their products and have had way too much of them lately. I had a chocolate glazed donut at breakfast, their mini pizza at lunch and grill cheese for supper on their bread. Was not a very healthy day for me, but I go back and forth... -

Armetta, Who told you they were just gas? i don't think that is possible in the brain, but I could be wrong. Sorry I am no help. Monica -
ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
key replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My son had UBO's on his MRI. He was scanned because he was underweight and he also has the birth marks for a genetic disease called Neurofibromatosis1. They were checking to see if he had a brain tumor on his pituitary gland that make him not grow. Turns out he has Celiac, but the UBO's can also go with children that have the Neurofibromatosis1. So I just... -
I think they feel helpless sometimes and this is how they react. I know when my husband is in a bad mood or whatever I am not very tolerant. He is my "rock" and it just sort of brings me down if he isn't feeling well and I think it is the same for my husband. As far as being super cautious, my husband has a hard time believing that shampoo is unsafe, etc...

ARCHIVED More Oat Questions
key replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I too reacted to oats. THe reaction wasn't the same as gluten, but I can definitely NOT eat them. THey also didn't agree with my celiac son. I don't know if I believe what they are saying about oats being safe. I would LOVE to be able to eat oats. THe next day after eating them I have major exhaustion. Also they were making me nauseated and depressed. I... -
ARCHIVED What Happened?
key replied to penguin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Chelse, THe same thing happened to me, exactly. For me though, I think I was getting small amounts of cross contaminated food. I have felt better now that I quit eating certain things with a risk for CC. I have felt great for two weeks finally and I am thrilled!! I was having horrible heartburn and went on prilosec. ONe thing I can say, is that if I am... -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Most Annoying Symptom?
key replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
TCA, Yeah, I am with you on the joint pain. Although mine is mainly in my legs and they ache and feel awefully fatigued after being gluttened. It is all I can do to get out of bed. Luckily it has been almost a month since I had that happen. My husband jokes that if I get gluttened that my legs go numb and I can't feel them. He hates it when I get gluttened... -
Robbin, How sad that women are this way! It has happened to me though and seriously I am not too thin for my height at all. My mom I swear is the worst with me. SHe used to weigh less then me and I think she wishes she was still thin. SHe is still a great size for her age, but she is always telling me I am anorexic and it just isn't true at all! My husband...

ARCHIVED gluten-free/df Breakfast Ideas?
key replied to VydorScope's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Vydorscope, It doesn't sound like you have alot of options. You could try smoothies. I make them with Orange juice, frozen strawberry's, frozen overripe banana's, 1/5th tofu silken or firm and 1tablespoon flaxseed oil (for health). You can add honey or something sweet, but my kids love them. Also, I eat Kinnikinnick English muffins with Smartbalance on... -
Lisa, Sorry you are not feeling well. If you need to vent just come here. Your parents seem to be very insensitive to say the least! They should be cleaning your room for you if you can't eat and are that sick. What is up with them?? Ok, it just makes me upset at how you are treated. I don't know how you go to class with the stomach problems you have been...

ARCHIVED What Is Your Most Annoying Symptom?
key replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Chelse, I have described my stomach pain the same way. LIke my stomach is eating it self or something strange or glass going through my intestines. I think an antispasmodic would be something to have around. Monica -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Borderline?
key replied to mommyetb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He should have a biopsy. My tests were borderline too, but I was already on the diet for two months before I had my blood drawn. The diet has helped me dramatically and that is enough for me. My son also has celiac disease. I did not have the biopsy because I didn't want to start eating wheat again to find out what I already knew. ONe of my other son's was... -
horselover, This also happened to me. Felt great and that felt bad. I think what happens is that we get more sensitive to VERY tiny amounts of gluten and at first our bodies are just happy to be rid of the majority of it. Just go over what you are eating and be sure that nothing is being contaminated by gluten. Also check your lipsticks and if you are touching...

ARCHIVED A Great Way To Cope With celiac disease..
key replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I love PF Chang's too. I did get gluttened once, but it was because they had messed up and made my lettuce wrap's with chicken and then when I sent them back I forgot to specify them being gluten free too. I get mine made with tofu. Anyway, I knew when they came back they looked different, but ate them anyway. I was very sick. I have since gone back though... -
ARCHIVED Another Vent! I Could Be Unhappy?
key replied to hungryforlife's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First off, before i forget. My GI doctor specifically told me he didn't know what the gene test would tell me, because they haven't identified all the genes for celiac. He told me to not even have the testing done. Obviously there are some disagreements even among the medical community about the specifics of Celiac disease. My blood work came back borderline... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry Chocolate Truffle Brownie Mix
key replied to terps19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love their bread mix, but haven't tried doing it by hand. I do it in a bread machine and I make a few changes. I warm my eggs for 20 seconds in the microwave once I have already beat them with a fork for a few seconds. Then I also add the yeast pack to the warm water before putting all the liquid ingredients in the bread maker and then pour the dry mix... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry Chocolate Truffle Brownie Mix
key replied to terps19's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just made these last week and was going to post about how yummy they are. THey taste just like the real thing. They do get dry faster then a normal browny, but I made them last Thursday and I am still eating the crumbs. Monica -
Sarah, Yeah, it is good you are getting to see a peds. GI. They will probably want to do a biopsy of her small intestine. This will show if their is damage to her intestines from the gluten. Anyway, the blood tests in small children are not accurate. My son had major diarhea before we found out, but we just took him off gluten and he improved dramatically...

My husband bought a Kenmore breadmaker from Sear's. It works great with the Gluten Free Pantry-Favorite Sandwich Bread and Breads By ANna. Turns out great everytime. LIght and fluffy. WE only paid $75.00 for it. Actually it only takes 2 hours to make it. Someone asked about Breads by Anna. CAn be ordered online from Glutenevolution.com. I like both of...

ARCHIVED Celiac, Severe Bloating, & Eating Disorders
key replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yvonne, SOrry you are struggling with C. I am doing better all of the sudden after giving up coffee and I have to be sure I am 100% gluten free or it makes me messed up for two weeks. Also I started taking something called "Bone Up", by Jarrow Formula's and it has helped me SO much. At least I feel this is what it may be. It is working anyway. I bought... -
ARCHIVED Do Normal People Have This Problem?
key replied to gointribal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is an interesting question. I have never eaten meat in my life and I am terrified to try it, because I don't think I would be able to eat it. Also one time in my life when I was on a diet I gave up cheese for two years. My stomach would just hurt SO bad when I would eat it. It took me eating it in small amounts to work up to being to eat it again. I... -
ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
key replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Radman, Welcome to the board. After you are done getting your "friendly" lectures, hope you find this place welcoming. No one messes around with gluten around here!! LOL! I think like we all agree, once one goes gluten free, then their bodies become way more sensitive to even very small amounts of gluten. This is why we worry about even the small amounts... -
ARCHIVED Can The Pale Stools And Vomiting Come A Day After Exposure?
key replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It actually sounds like he may have a virus called Rotavirus. My four year old has it right now and my 2 year old had it last week. They don't have to have a fever, but can. THe foul smelling stools and light color with undigested food is very typical of Rotavirus and it is RAMPANT in our area right now. It was announced on our news the other night. My kids...
