ARCHIVED Sooo Tired, Hair Loss, No Stamina
bartfull replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It sounds to me like a B-12 and/or biotin deficiency. I have the same ridges and waxy looking white spots on my fingernails. I have the hair falling out and the extreme fatigue too. My doctor wants to test for those vitamins, plus vitamin D. He is also ordering a complete metabolic panel to see what else might be going on. I told him I started taking... -
ARCHIVED Low White Blood Cell Count
bartfull replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just talked to my doctor about my results, and three things were "abnormal". One of my white blood cell types was low (my lymphocytes) and another type of white blood cell (my neutrophils) was high. And my red blood cells are "more concentrated" than they should be. The doctor said none of these could explain my jaw pain and swelling, which is his main... -
Grizzly bears. That's what scares me! Actually, having moved to the Black Hills from Connecticut, there were a lot of things I had to get used to. We didn't HAVE poisonous spiders in Connecticut. Out here we have black widows and brown recluses and some poisonous yellow spider whose name escapes me. I never used to kill spiders because they ate mosquitoes...

The majority of our physicians Are worse than slimy politicians They take our money with gleeful greed And sell us pills we do not need They seem beset by tunnel vision When diagnosing our condition And if by chance you're not insured Why then your treatment is deferred So we search and search for one who cares There must be ONE...

ARCHIVED Outdoor Temperature Today?
bartfull replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
35 degrees and sunny right now in southwest South Dakota. NORTHEAST South Dakota is supposed to go down to 25 below tonight with a 50 below wind chill. I think I'll stay here in the southern Black Hills where it hardly ever snows and the daytime temps often (not JUST in this unusually warm winter) get up to the 50's and 60's. -
I was taking sublingual B-12 (and biotin) before the corn intolerance hit. I have not been able to find any that have no gluten/corn/flavor/color. I may have to have them compounded. I DID however, order some "Women's Symmetry" multi vitamins on the recommendation of a friend on this forum. I started taking them last Friday. Of course, I might not be absorbing...

ARCHIVED Canyon Bakehouse Products
bartfull replied to LabyrinthRunner13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can order direct from the company: Open Original Shared Link Back before the corn problems hit, their Seven Grain bread was one of my favorite foods. I would eat this stuff even if I weren't gluten free. I'm really hoping that someday I will be able to eat it again. -
I FINALLY heard - and it is NOT leukemia! Anyone care to do the happy dance with me? The hospital never sent the results! They said the tests would be completed the same day I had them, but they neither called nor mailed them to my doctor. The nutritionist finally called them and they faxed it. The doctor hasn't even seen it yet, but the nutritionist assured...

ARCHIVED I Realy Don't Understand Some People..
bartfull replied to naserian's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know smoking is bad for me, but I haven't quit yet. Junk food is the same way. I used to LIVE on junk food. I LOVED it! I knew they SAID it was bad for me, but it hadn't killed me yet, so I just ignored the warnings and continued to eat, yes, garbage. I can't stand the smell of it anymore either. If people could get away from it for just a few months... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins, Mixed Tocopherols? Help?
bartfull replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have anything to add, but I did get a good laugh at the name of the company. Sounds like a description of what TV is now full of! -
ARCHIVED Bored Husband (Funny)
bartfull replied to IrishHeart's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Holy cow! I laughed so hard my makeup is streaked! Thanks! -
I'm so sorry. It is exactly as Karen said - I joined a corn allergy forum there months ago, using the same screen name I use here. (I must have had brainfog that day because I never do that!) And I didn't go back to that one after a while because the format is a pain in the neck. Please accept my apology. I didn't mean to give you a scare.

I deleted it, but wouldn't you know, I got another one! There's not much to it. I didn't "click to recieve pictures". But there is an address at the bottom where they put the link to bring me here on the first one. This one didn't have a link, just told me to come here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

I just got an email from "Delphi forums", inviting me to click on a link to join others of their forums. At the bottom, it said if I did not want any other emails from them I should click on the link that would lead me here so I could delete my account. They used my screen name in this email, and this is the only place I use this name. I didn't click...

I have ordered a multi-vitamin that contains iodine - it should arrive next week. But I have been concerned that I wasn't getting enough through my food so I was using sea salt. (I can't use "iodized" because corn is the carrier.) I just found out that sea salt has only negligible amounts of iodine. My doctor told me today that Orgeon State University...

ARCHIVED The Hardest Part About Celiac For Me Is...
bartfull replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I USED to say I am so glad I got to visit New Orleans before Katrina. Now I'm glad I went before being gluten/corn free. The food was absolutely the best I ever had! -
They never ran vitamin panels because I can't afford it. No insurance. The doctor has been treating me out of the free clinic here. I HATE that, but at the moment I just don't have the money to see him at his regular practice. I just told him how bad I feel about this - I have ALWAYS paid my own way in life. But he said that in this economy there are a lot...

AARGH!! The phone just rang and it was my doctor. I was braced and ready - but he only called to tell me his nutritionist wants me to have a B-12 and D panel. He hasn't heard back yet about the other tests. He said he'd call them later if it doesn't come in the mail today. This whole thing is just this side of torture! The nutritionist wants a list of...

Te-he. You could also make a sandwich using Ener-G rice or tapioca bread.
-
No. I was hoping to hear today as they said the tests would be completed yesterday. I'm thinking that rather than calling him with the results they mailed them - there were an awful lot of lines. I never knew there were so many TYPES of white blood cells! Anyway, they only pick up mail once a day here in the beautiful boonies, so if he didn't get it today...

ARCHIVED The Hardest Part About Celiac For Me Is...
bartfull replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me the hardest part is all of the new intolerances that keep cropping up. Just when I think I'm doing OK, something I've been eating all along starts to give me trouble. Oh how I wish there were a way to survive without ever eating again! -
Since going gluten free I have developed a STRONG sensitivity to aspirin. Makes me wonder. Did this happen to anyone else?
-
Sorry, it's from corn. Here is a partial list of corn allergens. Those with an asterisk are not ALWAYS frm corn, but you have to check. Open Original Shared Link

In the heat of anger that may sound good, but as someone with food allergies, you should know that that could make someone VERY sick. And because they already know that you are ticked off about this, it could come back on you. You might even be arrested. Go with the cooler and the padlock, and rest assured that whoever did this will get it in the end. Everything...

I had the BOSS steal food from me once, and I caught him red handed. I threatened to go to HIS boss, and when he laughed at me it ticked me off so much I DID go to his boss. After being reprimanded, he came to me an apologised, but I still didn't trust him so I started bringing a soft sided cooler that I could put a small padlock on. I would freeze a small...
