ARCHIVED Extra Diet Restrictions For Healing?
Bubba's Mom replied to Baddfrog's topic in Super Sensitive People
If I skip the enzymes I notice my food doesn't seem to digest very well. I don't usually notice when I skip other supplements other than I just feel more tired. Hopefully, your blood test will show you if you need to supplement anything. If those levels are fine, you may have to go with a food log to see if some other food is causing you trouble? Good... -

ARCHIVED Confused Please Help
Bubba's Mom replied to suecosgrove's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In a lot of the literature they say DQ2 and DQ8 are the Celiac genes. Many dr.s thing they can rule out Celiac if you don't have those. They have found there are other genes that also can mean Celiac. Since you have the damage in your duodenum, it would be a good idea for you to stay gluten-free. Soo..did the Dr. say what caused your damage if it's... -
ARCHIVED Hair Strand Allergy Test Results
Bubba's Mom replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow..I've never heard of hair strand allergy testing. I thought they could only tell what you've ingested by checking your hair? I ate without any grains, or potatoes for a while. I just doubled up on the veggies. Corn would be hard because they put it in supplements. Please let us know how this goes for you? -
ARCHIVED Heartburn Remidy Suggestion
Bubba's Mom replied to Bob4962's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You may need a digestive enzyme when you eat? It helps break down the food so your system won't have to work so hard. Ketchup is ok if your brand is gluten-free. With the gluten-free diet you will have to do a lot of label reading. The same applies to your toothpaste. Anything that goes in your mouth must be free from any gluten for your body to... -
ARCHIVED Advice Would Be Sooo Appreciated!
Bubba's Mom replied to SugarBiscuit's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How do we manage to find these horrible Dr.s..and how do they stay in business? I've had my share of mis-diagnosis too. I got the "it's all in your head", "it's just hormones", "eat Tums" etc. too. It's really frustrating! So many of your symptoms *could* be Celiac. The problem is..they could be something else too? Most Dr.s don't think to test for... -
ARCHIVED Could Mom Have Celiac?
Bubba's Mom replied to beachbirdie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I admit I don't understand all of the blood tests, but I know you can get false negatives. I had negative blood work but had been gluten light due to severe nausea for quite a while, when tested. I was scoped and had real bad intestinal damage. As time has gone on, I'm getting much stronger reactions to minute cc. I am a DQ2.2 as well. I've read that those... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosing Food Intolerances
Bubba's Mom replied to cavernio's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I started out pretty sick and reacting to everything I ate. I got DXed with Celiac and cut out gluten. I still didn't feel very good. I was told by someone here to keep a log of everything I ate, along with noting any symptoms I had, because many food reactions are delayed. I was eating a fairly limited diet just because I wasn't hungry and felt bad. On... -
ARCHIVED The Skinny On Protein Supplements Please!
Bubba's Mom replied to beachbirdie's topic in Sports and Fitness
I have 2 different Digestive Enzymes and use them according to what I'm eating. The Source Naturals brand is an all vegetarian/fruit broad spectrum capsule that's a bit milder than the other one I have. I can take 1 or 2 capsules as needed. The other is Meijer brand Super Enzymes. It has 330mg of Betaine hydrochloride along with several fruit enzymes... -
Learning not to worry about things you can't control is really hard. Some of us seem to be hard wired with a "worry gene"? You have such a full plate right now! Even so, you've taken steps in the right direction towards helping your daughter, and at the same time steps towards working through your own health issues...while taking classes and being a parent...

I strongly recommend keeping a food log. Write down what you eat, and note any symptoms you're feeling. Many food intolerances can have delayed reactions, so it makes it easier to put the puzzle of what you can safely eat together. You may have had a bad reaction after eating a sweet potato, but it may have been that the starch was hard to digest? If...

ARCHIVED Is There Gluten-free, MSG Free Beef &/or Chicken Bullion?
Bubba's Mom replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was looking for broth or bouillion without added MSG or autolyzed yeast extract, and no soy. It was hard, but I found Pacific organic free range chicken broth, and Kroger's culinary chicken stock are ones that meet my needs. I haven't seen a condensed version, like a cube, but thought maybe I could make my own by cooking the broth down a bit until it... -
ARCHIVED Steroids For Refractory Celiac--Recovering Alcoholic
Bubba's Mom replied to Kellyc306's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
IMO it's way too soon to be thinking about steroids! It takes time to heal. Months..even years for some. Alcohol may have caused some intestinal damage along with Celiac as well? Steroids have side effects. Lots of side effects. Instead, focus on making sure there's no cc in your diet. Focus on eating fruits, veggies, meats, fish, eggs, and dairy... -
ARCHIVED Advice Would Be Sooo Appreciated!
Bubba's Mom replied to SugarBiscuit's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms sure sound like Celiac. I echo what the others have said though. If you want to be tested, now is the time to do it. You would have a few symptoms going back on gluten, but not anywhere as severe if you get it out of your system completly and then want to add it back to be tested later. Why would you want to test later? Because as you feel... -
ARCHIVED No Diagnosis Help - Apologies For Length Of Post
Bubba's Mom replied to nwblue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
About 20-30% of us test negative for Celiac, but have it. Some are gluten intolerant, which there's no good test for other than removing it from your diet, then trying it again to see if there's a reaction. It sounds like this is where you are? We generally say to give it a good 3 months completely gluten-free. This means removing all traces of gluten... -
The food restrictions get old don't they? My hubby can't understand why I feel so sad when I see him sitting there munching away on chocolate, or other things I can't have, You have it even worse than me, because I can have sugars, just not anything with soy. People who haven't been through it, just can't understand it. They just can't relate. The added...

A reaction can last days, weeks, or longer, depending on how much you consumed, and your state of health in general. It's pretty miserable, but seems to just need to run it's course? You might try adding coconut oil to your diet? It feeds your brain just like glucose and has anti-inflamatory/healing properties. A dose of at least 2-3T per day has helped...

ARCHIVED Don't Know For Sure...
Bubba's Mom replied to Zebot647's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms *could* be Celiac. There are actully around 300 known symptoms. Many of them can be vague enough that a Dr. won't think to test for it. You'll have to ask for a full Celiac blood panel to be run. You must be eating gluten on a regular basis for the testing to be accurate, so don't go gluten-free yet. About 20-30% of celiacs test negative... -
ARCHIVED Hida Scan Results
Bubba's Mom replied to kristina8387's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My test showed a 30% ejection faction. I was tested after going off gluten for 6 mos. I have no idea if it was worse before going gluten-free. I was told I *might* want to have a consultation with a surgeon about having it removed. I didn't want a surgery and kept looking for answers. I read that PPI medications can make the gallbladder sluggish, reduced... -
ARCHIVED Higher-Than-Normal Thyroxine Doses Offer a Clue to Celiac Disease - Celiac.com
Bubba's Mom replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
My hubby has Hashimotos. They just increased his med. He refuses to be tested for Celiac. I wish this would get so well known that Dr.s would automatically test for Celiac when Dxing thyroid problems. -
ARCHIVED Extra Diet Restrictions For Healing?
Bubba's Mom replied to Baddfrog's topic in Super Sensitive People
I'm much newer to this than you. I've been gluten-free for 9mos. I've cut out most of the other top 8 allergens for now. I take a lot of supplements to keep my vitamin/mineral levels up in the normal range as I'm healing. I also take digestive enzymes, and probiotics. I would say it might be time to have your Dr. run a vitamin/mineral blood panel... -
ARCHIVED Bowel Changes Even On The Gluten Free Diet
Bubba's Mom replied to NewNicole's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I recommend keeping a log of what you eat, along with noting any symptoms you feel. Many food intolerances have delayed reactions, so you need a way of looking back and connecting certain foods or additives to symptoms. A lot of us find we develope additional food intolerances which could cause D. However, if it's severe and debilitating, get in to see... -
ARCHIVED The Skinny On Protein Supplements Please!
Bubba's Mom replied to beachbirdie's topic in Sports and Fitness
I can't help with the type of supplement, but thought I'd add..many Celiacs are told to eat some protein with every meal. Taking a digestive enzyme with whatever you decide to use should help break down and make the protein more easily absorbed? B1 vitamins, E, and fish oil are helpful for dementia type symptoms. Good luck to you and your Mom! -
ARCHIVED Enzymes
Bubba's Mom replied to twe0708's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I take an all-vegetarian enzyme, (Source Naturals). It helps my digestion a lot.
